Halo |OT12| Last One Out, Get the Lights

i hate them. it was much easier to tell apart the ones in halo 3 , reach. now they all look the damn same, not to mention appear for the shortest amount of time and in splitscreen especially are tiny as fuck.

and to top it off, the medals now count towards the train wreck that is personal ordnance. assist! distraction! vehicle destroy assist! take a step! here's your SAW!

the medals do look pretty good, is just that they are very small when they do appear, stay for a minimal amount of time and instead of just one or two, a whole bunch appear at the same time.

is their anywhere to see the total amount of medals you got and the average per game? the waypoint stats is a mess

BTB has:
Longbow
Exile
Ragnarok
Vortex
Meltdown

I dont think BTB needs so many maps, Vortex and Meltdown hardly pop up - I just wish those maps didnt exist and where instead 4v4 maps to make things less repetitive in the majority of the other playlists.

The thing about the BTB maps is that you can quite clearly see that they would be best in a BTB objective environment, it's frustrating that we have to wait to get objective into that playlist.

BTB thrives on objective, not crappy IS.

I was just reading through this list of Halo 4 medals. I didn't realize some of these existed! I wish they were more "in your face" like previous Halo games, rather than the central white text, although with as many medals as there are, I understand the decision to simplify it with text on screen.

Thats not even the full medals list!

I have one called 'Kill Shot' (Get the final kill in last stand mode). I wonder how many more medals there are that we dont yet know about.

Just found this rather large image which seems to be more accurate: http://i.imgur.com/25cmw.jpg

The thing about BTB maps is that its one single playlist and that all the other playlists suffer when half of the maps in the game are dedicated to it.

I do agree with you about BTB being best in Objective btw - I just wish that 4v4 was given a higher priority over it.

Interesting.
-snip-

I don't play Dominion/BTB, so I haven't came across them. Didn't know what Retribution was exactly, I thought it was something more specific than an assassination though.

Is Last Strike broken?

And I too like the medals, you just never see them in game unless you are looking for them. :/

I am going to do nothing but go camo and destroy shield doors. I will be ranked number 1 on HaloCharts for getting killing spree's against shield doors. I will be a level 50 door destroyer and the general shield door population will fear me.

I loled, until I read again,

How dare they reward players for playing the game!

True that.

Also Complex is way to big for 4v4. I wonder if that map could work in Dominion 6v6.

Complex doesn't support any Dominion objects.

Y u bring me bad news Fyre?

1. You put a lot of faith in scrubs, to not only find out and remember each power weapon spawn on each rotating map on each playlist, but to track their respawn timers as well. Thats dedication right there, and investment, and time, put in from day one, and not to be rewarded quickly or easily. Its an e-sport mentality - not something you can expect from most players at all. So what you eventually end up with are hardcore players in groups, consolidating and sharing information, and running over everybody else. New players get discouraged and don't keep playing, nor do they learn the ins and outs of the game fans hold to be so sacred. Populations dwindle as players move to other games with more accessible objectives.

Also, what are the chances that new players will get enough quality time with the power weapons to learn to use them effectively? We're talking from scratch here, and no, campaign doesnt count one iota, as the covenant AI doesn't hold a candle to other players. So, a new player who wants to learn and get some hands on time with rockets or the sniper has to rush one of the power weapons and deal not only with beating the enemy to the weapon, but other hardcore players on their own team who would betray them to grab them, or talk shit to them when they did acquire them, or just try to grief them afterwards because "they called it" and "K/D ratios" and all the other bullshit that surrounds these games. Play to win, right?

One of the best things to happen to Halo in terms of introducing new players, and allowing interested players to hone their skills is personal ordnance. Now everybody that plays Halo 4 is going to get some quality time with the power weapons without interfering with the rest of the team or subjecting themselves to grief, and without having to keep track of map properties and respawn timers. This is a good thing. It leads to better teamwork overall, since the skill floor is being raised.

2. Dynamism or clusterfuck, depending upon your perspective. If you want to see a clusterfuck, play MAG on PS3 - Halo 4 is far from it. Halo 4 rewards teams that take the best advantage of circumstances as they present themselves, in terms of global ordnance, personal ordnance, and loadout matchups. Some that see only chaos aren't seeing or appreciating the different dynamic at work here - just painting it as broken and bad, and that's a purely subjective viewpoint.

1. Save your breath (fingers?) with personal ordnance. I have no problem with it as its own thing. It should stay to 4 v 4 (or at least offer BTB with a global/static drop system). Players can learn and use power weapons, thats good, that's fine, let the mode be for that and other casual fun. But I think your underestimating basic human brain capacity. Put in a few hours of playtime and you'll know where weapons spawn on every map. I don't expect everyone to memorize timers and keep track of them, thats for a higher level of play. But EVVVVEERRRYYYOOONNNEEEE will know WHERE to find rockets if they are spawned in. And here's my opinion on your whole "this helps teamwork" thing. I can BARELY see how it helps teamwork on a low level of play. But I do sorta see it. It's the whole, we don't need to focus on power weapons so lets just work together and callout/teamshot? Sure, maybe. But anyone playing at such a casual level of play, from my experience playing with casual playing friends, is no one gives a shit about teamwork. Might be a few callouts here or there, but its usually just shoot shit.

and for the record, if 343 wanted people to know where shit spawns and when its available, a better system would have been having HUD indicators and perhaps even a TAC/COM kinda thing from Gears but add in a timer to show when the weapon will drop. I guess that level of common sense isn't to be expected.

2. So you're one of those people that say "SKILL ISNT MAP CONTROL/POWER WEAPON MAINTANANCE, ITS ABOUT WHO CAN BEST PLAY THE HAND THEIR DEALT" Sure that's a skill but it doesn't make for an even or fair fight. At a high level of play, with teams that are more or less equal in skill, the team that gets a lucky drop near them will win 95% of the time barring some fuckup on their part. There's no flow to these matches anymore it just feels so messy and random compared to previous Halo's.

If trueskill and party matching are expected to work, then you shouldn't have to deal with better, communicating teams running all over some helpless random beginners.

Why don't they just make a big deal about whenever a power weapon spawns

"ROCKET LAUNCHER IN THE HALLWAY IN 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, ROCKET LAUNCHER SPAWNED!"

Thats what I thought global ordinance was before I read up on it.

I had not seen this previously.
Wow.

Megatron must be stopped.

Scout and Oceanic are pretty cool.

It took Halo 4 for me to realize Scout and the Halo 3 armors were far better than we possibily dreamed.

Hell, I'm appreciating Reach's helmets more; as samey as they all looked, they at least had visors and HAZOP didn't look like a depressed robot (also liked their toned down EVA and Security helms, although Halo 4's GUNGNIR looks better than Reach's.)

Air Assault is a pretty close imitation of ODST, so I'm all set for armor since there's no MkV.

I use Mark IV all the way. Been that way since 04 with Halo 2.

However, if i were to ever get the web skin id use it in a heartbeat. Black primary, white secondary...

Venom?? Shit would be money.

  • Why is Snipers being removed?
  • Why is camo still in the game?
  • Why is Hardlight sheild in the game?
  • Why are all of these maps huge?
  • Where is the classic playlist?
  • Who created Regicide?

I could go on...

Couldn't be worse than my wonderful 2v8 Ragnarok experience!

This green visor grinding is the worst...

I still have not had that much of an issue with the Hardlight shield.

Me neither. It's annoying at long range, but up close it's not that big of a deal.

Camo, on the other hand...

Can you melee through HLS?

It really is. I have no idea how Aggro(?) got it so fast. I'm only on the 3/5 commendation for it. It also doesn't help that Ragnarok is the worst map for it.

Ragnarok is probably the worst map in the game -_-

I can't stand it. Meltdown, however, is a great BTB map.

holy fuck I've just realized. sometimes I join a match in progress and die once before I'm actually able to play. and many times I'm looking at a black screen while I'm being killed during a match. fuck is up with the net code and matchmaking system in general.

"Load up a Warthog with 2 teammates and go for a drive. "

Really?

It's actually a splatter with a loaded Warthog or Mongoose. It's also hilarious.

It't really annoying when you shoot a guy one-shot from long range, only to have him pull a hard light shield out of his ass and walk behind cover.

Pulse Grenade will fix that shit right up. They move too slowly to get out of the EMP field in time if they're one shot, meaning that they either have to drop their shield (and die) or keep their shield up (and die).

But if they're like 100 meters away, throwing any grenade won't be really reliable.

I was thinking that when you EMP a vehicle, you shouldn't be able to exit certain ones. I suppose technically, when you EMP a vehicle, it shuts down the vehicle's systems, so theoretically you shouldn't be able to open the hatch of a Banshee, Scorpion or a Mantis because it would be locked shut.

I'm not too sure about this one, but, like being boarded, perhaps it would make sense for players not to be able to exit vehicles when being EMP'd.

This one guy spawned me and everyone else in a rock in spops and we couldn't get out...

His tag is TrendyTopic. Stupid spops spawns.

Am I the only one who thinks that the medals look pretty good? I like them. :(

semi-off-topic

It's far from perfect, but I tried. I still want to redo the smoke sometimes.

They're awful in my opinion. There is no contrast between them in both design and colors, when you glance at them in-game, you can't tell which is which or what they are for.

These are actually two different medals in this game:
70px-H4_-_Generic_Kill.png
70px-H4_-_Headshot.png

Also, as long as I'm ranting about medals, why did they take out weapon specific sprees?

Aggro once thought as you did. Then he saw the light, and the green visor was his.

King of the Hill on Ragnorak. Aggro got 8 splatters with the banshee on guys in or on their way to the hill.

Wait, they did? I got a Tommy Boy for 15 kills with the SAW without dying early on, I'm pretty sure.

Oh yeah! I would prefer weapon spree medals to single kill medals.

The medal design in this game is really weird, in game I have given up trying to tell what they are.

I also had a game yesterday where I killed someone, started fighting someone else, but had so many medals popping up that things became really unclear. It actually delayed and then popped up something like 'Killing Spree' whilst I was fighting my next opponent, I saw the white text and immediately reloaded thinking it was text telling me I got the kill.

I died because of the white text giving me distracting info. :(

This is going to get spammed across three different threads because we'd got too many damn ones, but anyhow...

Co-op Campaign Night 11/27/12

What is it?
A co-op playthrough of Halo 4's campaign mission hosted by Forward Unto Dawn, with the goal of discussing and discovering more about the game's fiction. Also defending humanity from alien threats through use of exotic weaponry. That too.

If you're an achievement completionist, we're playing on Legendary--so if you want to work on co-op and/or Legendary achievements and can stomach some serious Halo talk, so much the better.

We're inviting people from HaloGAF and HBO too--any Halo player out there who likes Halo's fiction and wants to talk about it is welcome.

When is it?
Tuesday (11/27), 8PM EST (UTC-5). We're not sure this will be the case every week, but we'll see how it shakes out.

This week we're on to the fourth mission, "Infinity". Chief walks around jungles! Gets judged by his height! Marines are found and killed rather quickly! Del Rio snaps at people! All this and more!

How do I get a piece of the action?
Message Postmortem (GT: FinalPOSTMORTEM), and be online by 8pm (a few minutes before would be best, so we can jump into sorting into four-person teams and get into the mission quickly). We're not sure exactly how many people we're going to have, so the sooner we get everyone together, the faster we can be.

Any questions, let us know here or via XBL message (My GT is Pixelfox.)

Wait, they did? I got a Tommy Boy for 15 kills with the SAW without dying early on, I'm pretty sure.

Pretty sure that's not a medal. Outside of sprees in Regicide and Flood, there are no gametype or weapon specific medals in the game.

Looking at the Extraction medals, can I haz it in matchmaking plz?
