Lara Croft can't swim in the reboot? The hell? + Regen health - 12/15 hr SP

http://www.onlysp.com/2012/11/25/to...ng-lara-will-have-regen-health-and-cant-swim/

Although Lara is an adept swimmer in the Tomb Raider series, the upcoming reboot will apparently chronicle a time when she still needed floaties. On the upside, this was a time when she adopted Wolverine’s regeneration powers.

What exactly am I talking about, you ask? Crystal Dynamics global brand director Karl Stewart recently went on Twitter to answer fans’ questions about the game. Among the responses was information about the following (click to see tweets):

The game’s length, which will reportedly clock in at a respectable 12-15 hours.

12 to 15 + depending on your play style.

Whether or not Lara can swim. Hint: she can’t. Or at least she can, potentially, but she’s unable to do so in the game. Confusing, I know.

Lara can swim, but just not in this game.

The game will most likely have a few references (and maybe Easter Eggs) to the first game.

You’ll just have to wait and see.

The story will have plenty of twists, much like my favorite drinking straw.

We love twists here at Crystal D.

A sequel is definitely on the cards if the game does well.

Why of course.

Finally, the subject of health was touched upon. Let’s just say no medkits will be found within the game.

Regenerative. No need for items.

How can you not swim, Lara!? You are going exploring, on a large ship, for the first time in your life, and you can't swim?! You were doomed from the outset.

If it actually is 12 - 15 hours, I'm good with that. I like lengthy games. The regenerative health is... eh, par for the course.

On the one hand, not being able to swim is dumb. On the other, I hated swimming in Tomb Raider games, so I'm not really upset at this.

No swimming and the game takes place on a fucking island. Plus the underwater bits in Trunderworld were great.

Health regen is whatever I guess. Actually no it doesn't make sense either. Are they bother finding some way to explain it, I wonder?

On the upside if it does end up being over 10 hours that's good as Legend and Underworld were both sub 10.

I haven't been following this game much, but no swimming ... okay, that seems weird. Is this game supposed to still be a platformer in the sense that the other games were or are we getting something more like in the sense of what the E3 videos have been showing, and those sequences seemed pretty linear.

Regenerating health ... ah well, what are we gonna do, have the island strewn with medpacks anywhere?

Regenerating health? The hell was the point of adding hunting and gathering if you were only going to use it to not heal your wounds?

Why didn't they take the MGS3 model of survival and just amp it up to 11?!

The game design basically wrote itself from the original trailer and concept!

BAH!

Every Tomb Raider has had swimming. Seems like a stupid idea to take it out.

But has it ever been enjoyable? Swimming pretty much always sucks in games. They never get the controls right, and it turns into a chore.

I'm looking forward to this. Hope it turns out well. February right? Unfortunately for Tomb Raider February already belongs to another game for me... Guess I'll be waiting until it drops in price.

Damn shame.

The only part I enjoyed was diving and making Lara do a handstand before said diving.

make-shift splints, hunting for food, herbal remedies, etc could have filled have done the job. Something along the lines of Alone in the Dark/MGS3 would have made sense and fit into the supposed survival gameplay that the game is said to contain. So far it looks like they really mucked this whole thing up.

Lara Croft can swim in a 1996 PlayStation game but can't in a 2013 Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 game. Can't wait to see what a trainwreck this will be.

Oh god. The original Tomb Raider is 16 years old now.

Should have had swimming, but if you go out too far shark automatically eats you.
Should have had the Resistance / Far Cry 2 health system of packs and partial regen.

I thought the game had health regen. I mean, this is aiming to be a "mainstream" type of game..that's par for the course.

Lara can swim, but just not in this game.

Swimming in Underworld was kind of awkward but I liked the slower, methodical swimming of the PS1 games.

The game will be a "trainwreck" because she can't swim? Slight overreaction.

For some reason I thought this game already came and went. Huh.

No swimming is incredibly dumb considering the setting. Regenerating health is incredibly dumb considering the survival focus of the game.

I wouldn't have a problem with either of these things generally, but they go against the game.

Not being able to swim is daft, especially for a game that takes place on an island. Regenerating health is par for the course now.

Hahahaha. Good one.

Health regen for a survivor game. What is this? I have been hyped for this, but starting to wear off for each update.

Yeah, that was nice. And it was pretty satisfying jumping off a cliff and doing a swan dive into the water.

But remember all the awful swimming in Tomb Raider 2? Urgh.

If the only bodies of water in the game are super choppy seas I don't see an issue. Regenerating health doesn't sound so good. MGS3 style system would have been rad.

Lara Croft... Can't swim!!!

A Tomb Raider game with no water levels????

What the hell is wrong with them!?

And a survival game with no healing items :/

What are you doing to this game!!???!?!?

Game just looks way too scripted, and now health regen? Meh.

Also not being able to swim is hilarious. My scrawny 15 year old brother can swim.
