if it doesn't get cancelled first :p
Have there been cancellations on the Microsoft orders? It really seems like this was for real, the price stayed at that even when out of stock and it seemed to specifically target older games (well, "older" given we're talking just half a year at worst) as if they were trying to clear stock and hopped on the Black Friday weekend to do so.

A few weeks ago I finished my ~280 hour romp with this game, after finally having secured that plat.

Definitely won't revisit until the Dark Arisen expack hits, but I look forward to flipping on hard mode at that point!

If only they can also patch the bloody stupid romance mechanic, gah.

Oh yeah, that was dumb as hell. My first love interest was Mercedes, but in the very end of the game she was inexplicably switched up with fucking Fournival.

Still, I dunno, I was able to get over it fairly well. The lols were worth it. But yeah, they should really fix that.

I haven't played this in so long, i'm intrigued to see how many RC i'll get on return.

please no. i love reading the reactions when people end up with random npc_6.

teehee they were good. almost disappointed i ended up with the
witchy
girl.

hah!!

Luckily for me I romanced both the
attractive female merchant
and
the princess
.
*shrug*

Yes I forgot their names, it's been so long since I played through the game.

How were people leveling up in this game? Is it post game that a lot of it happens? I am nearing the end and am nowhere near the level of some of the pawns I could potentially hire.

And roaming the world map doesn't yield much XP just fighting goblins etc. Thanks.

from grinding Ur-dragon
if you're a sorcerer, you can get over 500k xp every 5 minutes or so

most mobs will be replaced with stronger versions in endgame, yielding more xp

I still have this game but have had a really hard time getting into it. I think I need to give it another shot. I kind of didn't understand how the skill system worked though I had a few skills but never really saw any real growth with them. I never felt like I was dealing massive damage.

Hell yes

Though I wonder how exactly the hard mode will work. Will it just mean mobs always scale with you and offer consistant challenge ala MoHun?

I mean, if people want to shack up with Fournival by all means do it, but at the very least they should at least tell us which one of them is going to become the Arisen's soulmate without any sort of bloody stupid randomness.

I mean, it is also possible for the Arisen to become a pedo and end up with a small boy/girl, for crying out loud.

What's there not to understand? The skill system of this game its pretty easy to understand.

Well I often would gain levels without seeing an increase in any of my skills (or spells) I don't know it has been a while I probably should look into it again. For someone starting out on the game fresh which class would you recommend?

Why it's OK for NG+ not to be harder in Chrono Trigger, but it's not OK for NG+ not to be harder in Dragon's Dogma:

Chrono Trigger had a branching storyline with tons of endings, to the point where it was impossible to see everything on your first playthrough. Thus, there was motivation to replay the game, to see more story content.

Dragon's Dogma is one of my favorite games this generation, but there's absolutely no reason to play it for its story. Dragon's Dogma is all about fighting, fighting, and then also fighting. The awesome variety of classes and the party system is an incredible benefit to the game on your first playthrough as you get to experiment with different abilities against different enemies, in order to find out what combinations of skills, party members, and tactics work best against each enemy. You know, a challenge. By the time you start your NG+ you will be leveled to the point where any combination of skills, party members, and tactics will be more than enough to deal with anything the game throws at you. So combat ceases to be interesting. No interesting combat + no new story = boring NG+

Which is why this update is great! I'm excited. Hopefully it will give me a reason to put the disk back in.

Well I often would gain levels without seeing an increase in any of my skills (or spells) I don't know it has been a while I probably should look into it again. For someone starting out on the game fresh which class would you recommend?

Brief explanation:

The game uses 2 kinds of level up: one for the level your character itself that raise attributes according to the class your character are when he/she levels up and one for the skills themselves (you can't see this however.) The game tracks those two differently.

You accumulate skill points with the same way you accumulate EXP, by killing enemies. Generally, due to the maths involved, it is better to spam kill small numerous enemies like wolves if you just want to raise your skill points instead of going after the big guys.

Fresh game.... fighter is a good choice, until you can get the skill that will add carry bonus (level 5), then you can switch to whatever you want. Do note that if you spend a long time *leveling* your characters as physical-based attacker, due to how the game levels up your attribute and the fact you cannot reverse gained stat increase, it is much better to stick with physical based class throughout. You can still change to magical based ones, but your character will be much less effective if you do so.

This odd mechanic of stat distribution during leveling up kind of screws some classes like Magic Archer however. If you want, I can go explaining more stuff here, although the wiki for this game does a good job explaining stuff too, so you should check it out.

One note: the descriptions of Hard Mode and Time Attack Mode aren't particularly detailed, but the tagline for Time Attack is something like "Challenge yourself to see how quickly you can complete the game." Makes it seem like the mode is just to see how fast you can complete the main campaign, not any new courses or specific sections of the game or anything like that.

Edit: oh man I just realized that the katakana for "pawn" sounds just like "porn." The page in Japanese announcing a pawn contest for the pawn community is thus hilarious. And yes I realize that the actual katakana for "porn" is "poruno," but this is funnier.

Is this still worth buying, with that new game/expansion on the horizon? Will I be able to play Dark Arisen with a copy of DD?

Dark Arisen is a dlc expansion, unless Capcom announces a GOTY edition within this year I'm sure you'd be fine buying the game as it is.

Playing it on the 360 in 720p is the way to go.
Yep to anyone buying this game, be sure to turn your resolution to 720p this version of MT Framework goes down the crapper at 1080p.

Kinda burned out on this game, but did get a Platinum out of it. Wish they released more info on the new expansion pack.

Capcom should focus on a PC version instead. Single digit framerates isn´t fair to their customers.

Dark Souls, Demon Souls, Borderlands, Borderlands 2. I can go on.

While Dark Souls NG+ is actually harder, I feel that overall the difference comes down to the bosses, as the regular enemies are easier due to your increased power.

Wish they had put more regular enemies in there.

As someone who hasn't actually started playing DD, does the game get progressively easier -> trivial or is it easy all the way through?

Was meaning to getting around to this next month coincidentally

Still wondering how it'll work, tougher AIs/different enemy placements or just the same game with tweaked damage curve? Hopefully the enemies are randomized a bit. Hope Chimeras will now also hunt in packs.

Anyway I've wanted to replay this game, it's about time.

Haven't played this yet but I'm interested.

Question: are there any more DLCs/expansions planned? What are the chances for an eventual GOTY/Ultimate/Complete Edition?

It's difficult in the beginning especially if you pick a Mage but it goes get progressively easier as you reach lvl 20-30. The end game is pretty much a cake walk.

Man, I might have to buy it again. It is sitting in my top 10 runners-up and a hard mode might tip it in. Pretty much my biggest problem with the game (which is a common problem among many games) was that leveling ruined the difficulty. Imagine how much better the game would be if it only had class ranks and equip was dictated by boss/quest progress (a la Monster Hunter)? In any case, running away from enemies 90% of the time (in a game where running around is already kind of a drag) does a lot of harm to one's excitement.

With No Mercy mode also coming for RE6, Capcom has done right by me.

I'll go through it again on hard when I have time. Love this game to death, put an awful lot of time into it on release.

I'm not sure if i should make a new thread about it so i'll just post this here:

Capcom announced Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen for Japan, which is like the Monster Hunter G version of Dragon’s Dogma. The expanded game has new character, monsters, new parts, Black Spell island, and huge underground area to explore. Players can import save data from Dragon’s Dogma into Dark Arisen.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen also has Japanese voiceovers and Capcom hired some notable actors.

Dragon – Shinji Ogawa (Bateau in Ghost in the Shell)

Kina – Yuka Komatsu (Neytiri in Avatar)

Mercedes – Miyuki Sawashiro (Milla in Tales of Xillia)

Selene – Megumi Han (Takeru in Digimon Adventure)

Chief Adaro – Ichiro Nagai (Yoda in Star Wars)

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen will be released soon, but a specific release date was not announced.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

That trick actually doesn't work with MT 2.0 games, but the 360 version is still recommended because of better performance.

Yes! I hope the take their feedbacks and make the map/traveling aspect better, don't necessarily mean fast travel everywhere but a better designed map and better paced traveling system would be neat (so you don't back track the same corridors over and over), and emphasize on the day/night cycle.

Better quests would be nice too.

I hope there are new weapons and some improvements to its combat, if not new classes and skills.
