Halo |OT12| Last One Out, Get the Lights

Plywood

NeoGAF's smiling token!
Welp, I'm done for the night.

Jump into Dominion and get a match someone quits immediately, we end up sitting in black screen for 15 minutes while 3 other people quit. I get kicked back to finding a game. Join a game already in progress, the score screen shows it just started but one side has all three bases. Loading starts to take a while then someone quits. Finally starts to load the game. "Game Over"

PV is more of a problem with good players, completely stalls the game, and negates any stealth you might have possibly tried with crouching.

Against BKs it's not a problem, because well, they're BKs.

Yeah. My worst experiences with PV have been during CTF on Solace. People camp in their bases, activate PV every few moments, and... just camp. You can't sneak in, and the carrier waypoint means you can't sneak out. It's depressing.

PV isn't game-breaking or even that useful at the best of times - it just makes firefights a lot less interesting - I wouldn't miss it.

Which CoDs are your favorites?

edit: Also, will Team Regicide have friendly fire? If not, I'm just gonna keep sticking my king with a sticky det and having him rush the enemy team.

MW, MW2 ( before the community ruined it by abusing shit) and black ops.

The level of polish is immediately apparent over halo. The menus, the roster, the player customization shit. And the game plays a lot better (so far, much limited time with it compared to halo 4).

The main thing you notice in mp aside from 60fps is you're given options for your classes to counter bullshit in game. Halo just gives a bunch of bullshit with no counters.

Ya, the menus and all is very polished and nice. But that could also be just them having a lot more experience making games together and understanding expectations as a studio compared to 343.

4 has the worst UI especially in the lobby of any halo game.

reach had it right in that regard, so easy to navigate and to look at. no horrible all caps everywhere. although the menu music annoyed me.

popped in halo 3 too today. menu soundtrack is godly. (and menus are still better than 4 too)

I was considering saying this but couldn't think of a nice way to put it where I didn't seem like a dick. Bravo.

Please tell me how that is once you play it. Far Cry 2 was a game I could appreciate, but mechanically just couldn't get into. But what I'm hearing about Far Cry 3 from forums and on the most recent Bombcast is actually getting me excited.
It's Far Cry 2 with everything most people (but not me) found frustrating about that game removed, and about a million collectibles, sidequests, and customization options sprinkled on top, if you like that sort of thing. Basic gameplay is at least as good as FC2 if not better (albeit also quite a bit easier even on the highest difficulty, because enemies go down quicker, there's loads more autoaim, you can buy red dot laser sights, there's no gun jamming, etc.).

I have some quibbles with it as a diehard fan of FC2: the UI is cluttered XP-grind dogshit after FC2's naturalistic take, and the whole thing is much, much more scripted and much, much more forgiving, so it loses a lot of the oppressive atmosphere of the previous game.

But it kind of fucking rules otherwise.

And it's huge. I've been playing for hours and I haven't left the first map square because I'm skinning komodo dragons and doing quad bike races and stabbing pirates for cash.

You monster.

I'm curious, isn't 343 around 300 people? Why did they need Certain Affinity and Digital Extremes to help with multiplayer? Didn't Bungie make the other Halo games with less than 300 people? I'm not trying to hate or anything, just genuinely curious.

One last thing before I go, the crimson map pack playlist sounds like it could be fun, I'm looking forward to its variety.

Crimson Map Pack owners will also have exclusive access to a single premium playlist that will feature the new maps and will be the only place players can experience 6 vs. 6 matchmaking experiences, the new Extraction game type, and a wide range of voting combinations for different maps and modes.

From here.

Yah. Loving the game so far.

Dat crossbow is the most satisfying weapon.

343 isn't just a game development studio, they manage the entire franchise. I'm sure a fair chunk of those 300 or so people (if that number is correct) didn't actually work on the game.

Progress!

I just got in talks with:
  • Diesel
  • Arena Gaming
  • European Gaming League
  • Australian Cyber League
  • ForgeHub
  • BTB.net
  • The Halo Council

They are all on board to work on a set of competitive rules. I'm hoping that MLG/GB/Ghost join us, this should be a united front.
