Halo |OT12| Last One Out, Get the Lights

Look at all that legal gibberish. You should have done a real education son!

Ha, ha.

I'm probably as talented as Lionel Hutz, aka Miguel Sanchez, aka Dr. Nguyen Van Falk.

And 50 percent less fraudulent.
The easter egg on the last mission is fantastic. First one I know of to change gameplay.
Loved the sports equipment.

I wish reviewers could go back and alter their reviews for Halo 4/Spartan Ops. 343 should be heavily panned for this shit, it's fucking disgusting. Reusing the same fucking levels every fucking week with the same boring mission objectives filled with enemies that have no thought put into their placement. Fucking DISGUSTING. Not to mention an incredibly terrible story that not only has awful dialogue and voice acting (that makes you wish for the sweet release of death), but also feels completely detached from what is going on in gameplay.

AGAIN; D.I.S.G.U.S.T.I.N.G.

They'd have to give back all those bags of Doritos, bottles of Mountain Dew and advertising dollars first. That 9.8 from IGN reeks of "PAID FOR." If there ever was a near perfect Halo game, Halo 4 definitely isn't it.

I love the Halo 4 BR, especially when there aren't many DMRs around. Definitely one of my favorite parts of the game.

I get the skybox complaints, but I'm ok with the trade off. I still think the sky looks pretty good, but for something I don't spend tons of time looking at it, it's nice to see some higher fidelity for the things I do. They used some nice trickery though. When you get up close to things they can be pretty low res, but they look pretty good even just a short distance away from them.

Looks like modders are fixing infection and other gametypes... GOOD!

The lack of customization is plain retarded, what was 343 thinking? still having lots of fun with, much bette than Reach.

I actually like the story in Ops, and think the voice acting is pretty good. :/

I really want to see what they do with season 2. Season 1 was done before launch, and during the time crunch. I attribute the re-use of levels to that aspect more than anything. The true test comes in season 2 when everything is done post-launch. If those levels aren't good then we have some problems.

I enjoy the CG a lot though.

Oh, THAT'S what it does. This explains my earlier post:

Never heard any of the RvB dialog or got the other weapons, though. weird.

Nice little egg, though.
The grunts don't have anything to do with the egg; we ran into 'em last night without triggering it (the egg). They're just a fun little bonus (super-cool if you land a wraith shot in their midst - it's like 4th of July in December).

The egg just turns those heavy weapons into hammers.

So Team Regicide is great. Objective games are mostly well done in Halo 4, and TR is a nice mix of slayer and objective. Even though I got my ass handed to me (count me in on the official flinch hatewagon, cannot fucking wait for the stability mod to kick in), it made a team of randoms actually play like a team and it was glorious. I think staying out of Infinity playlists and all it's random bullshit is the way to go for maximum enjoyment of this game. Now if only I were good at FPS...

Well, that explains why I never heard any dialog. Accidentally driving into a group of them was startlingly hilarious.

Oh and I also miss dawn of the dead/zombies and emergent gameplay of the sort in customs. Most of the fun in Halo 2 MP came from customs, away from matchmaking fuckery.

Do you think we'll see a season 2?

I wouldn't count on a Season 2. If it's free (which it realistically can't be) they would still have a ten thousand people play it per week. If there is a charge for the season I can't imagine it doing well at all.

I wonder if we'll ever get numbers for how many people buy the first DLC. Personally I'm holding out to see if getting the full "season" map pass will be worth it.

It's always been funny and admirable watching you guys torture yourselves every Monday dutifully grinding through SpOps every week even though its a chore. I appreciate all the critiques of the players who stick it out but I could never be a randomrosso or Karl or Havok or Ghal with this; when the mode started to get tiring after the first 3 missions of episode one I just put it down pretty much forever.

Props to you guys.

To be fair I've only played up to Mission 2 of Episode 3.

Superb post, Karl.

To Redford's point, I have fun with Spartan Ops. Is it what I wanted when I envisioned what it could be? Absolutely not (yet, at least). Does it have some major issues like lag, enemy placement, re-use of maps? Yep. But I still seem to have fun grabbing a friend and powering through them, even if just for the firefights.

I think Heckfu and some others mentioned the same thing. There are issues with Ops, but at its core it is still fun for me to play through with friends.

As far as the competitive multiplayer weapon sandbox goes, how would you guys feel about the Energy Sword being replaced by a Covenant shotgun that shoots needles? Maybe 7 or 8 needles per pellet, slightly shorter range than the Shotgun but added homing ability, and getting all the needles of a round into a target would cause a supercombine.

Co-op Campaign matchmaking + Spartan Ops matchmaking = a great title update testbed for dedicated servers...

Any good Midship remakes and 4-shot BR Halo 2 variants out there?
Why is H2 seen as the epitome of Halo? IMO one of Halo's biggest problems is slow kill times. CE is the only game that doesn't have this problem.

Also the H4 DMR is way more skillful than the H2 BR.

If reuse of maps, what appears to be a completely broken spawn system and blatant wave-after-wave design isn't fixed, I don't want a SpOps Season 2, even if it does give me more pretty CG cutscenes. These are the biggest issues of SpOps, and they've only become more apparent and tiresome with the latest episode. At this point the story is my only motivation to play, because the gameplay is probably the weakest in the entire Halo series.

The entire SpOps experience feels uncontrolled, unbalanced, untested. Lazily put together without any adherence to player count scaling, using sheer numbers of enemies combined with infinite respawns as a balance. Which is a very poor way of handling the issue when actual fail-states are introduced into missions such as the first chapter of this week's episode where on normal solo it's harder than every other chapter thus far on Legendary.

When backtracking has been a massive criticism of Halo since the series began, it's kind of shocking to see SpOps make ample use of that. We have episodes entirely comprised of locations we've already been to. The latest with the same area TWICE in adjacent chapters. Did they honestly expect people not to get tired or demotivated by this?

Bungie managed to retool the Brutes without throwing them out. Just get Traviss to write something that justifies their changes, throw her a bone of one free fucking around with Halsey scene in the book and you're good to go

edit: this post doesn't reflect my actual opinion of the Prometheans, mind, but it's been done before is what I'm saying

Oh, oh, I got this. It doesn't even involve making up a new Mary Sue that'll take time out of her day to shit on Halsey for no reason other than to shit on Halsey.

Jul 'mdama and the Storm use Glassman to activate the Librarian's AI on Requiem. Through a freak "accident" (totally intentional mischief on her part), Halsey uses the teleporter that Thorne and Glassman used and ends up in Storm custody. Fueled by her resentment for the crew of the Infinity, her massive curiosity and her drive to evolve humanity, she begins cooperating willfully with the Storm. She retools the Prometheans (that, using the Librarian's AI, the Storm takes control of) to upgrade their basic functionality and create several new variations. All the while she and Thorne talk about the original SIIs and we get some insight in to both of their characters and their motivations. The plot of Season 2 involves attempting to recapture Glassman, Halsey and Thorne. Crimson successfully gets Thorne, Glassman is killed in a struggle, and Halsey manages to escape with the Storm to another part of Requiem or to
the Greater Ark, which the Librarian's AI has informed them of
. The plot of Halo 5 is the Chief hunting her down and recapturing her.

Admittedly I've never played it co-o, only solo, haha. I'm sure it's much more enjoyable with friends.

To be fair to the mode, when the mission is designed well, it can be a lot of fun. I really enjoyed this week's Cauldron mission because the issues with enemy count and spawning were mitigated by giving the player some powerful tools to overcome them, and it reused the space in an interesting way. In coop it becomes even easier to look past the issues by brute force. Problem is, missions like last week's Random Transport are just complete garbage and totally miss what makes Halo great, and those missions drastically outnumber the gems. I still give it a shot every week because it occasionally pays off, and it might get easier going forward depending on their ability to implement changes based on feedback.

I think at this point making a second season and expecting people to pay for it would be total folly. Consumers dont care that the team was under crunch, and (no offense to Ellis et. al) they shouldn't necessarily care. Quality of the product is what they see, not the labor that created it.

Hey guys, next year H2 remake!
By Certain Affinity!

"We felt there weren't enough power weapons, so we replaced the BR's on lockout with rockets."

Anyway, its getting closer and closer to my 343 faith cutoff date (first bulletin of the new year) and still no word on even working to fix some of these issues.

And I'm messing with the Halo 2 gametype right now, with the damage settings I got, its 3 BR shots knock out shields, 4 to kill.
2 shots + melee kills.
Haven't tested the power weapons, but with these settings a perfectly placed frag will kill a fullly shielded opponnent. The frag damage is insane. Where it wouldn't affect you in base Halo 4, it will take a sliver of shields away.

for a lot of people H2 is the first FPS they got "seriously into"

How could they show Season 2 with Season 1 only half done?

It'll be a wrap up trailer. Will it really be all C.G. cutscenes though?
Probably tease an appearance by the Chief or Didact.

Chief as a Noble-Team esque NPC for an episode would be awesome, but only if the missions were ridiculously difficult and he was hilariously overpowered to compensate. Like, he can see everyone all at once and starts taking potshots at them with his BR and kills them in three hits or something. Give him the most aggressive AI possible and make him invulnerable and hit like a fucking nuke.

I'm really curious as to what kind of death march the development was like for Halo 4. The fact that something as simple as ordnance indicators being so broken leads me to believe it was hellish.

NO WAIT I GOT IT.

Got the damage settings pretty much perfect.

Grenade will only knock shields out if fully shielded. It's still kinda powerful though.
Pistol is 4 shots to knock shields, 5 to kill. This worries me a bit, because a perfect pistol spam will beat a BR.
2 BR's + Melee will kill.
Perfect grenade + body shot will kill

Moral of the story, why can't we have more specific damage increments?

Either way, this is pretty much as close as we can get to Halo 2 damage settings.
Sprint is disabled.
Respawns are borked so unless modders/343 fix that we can't do anything.
Gotta forge maps with static ordnance drops. I don't know how to do this tbh.
120 movement, 110 jump.
Feels sexy.

I have a Lockout remake with static spawns. Computron made the ballin'est remake of Foundation with static drops. I also have Turf, Boarding Action and
Uncaged
.

Only way currently that I know of is to use the Initial Ordnance object and then set a Resupply Time for each. You'll still get those shitty waypoints, though, and you can't manage ammo counts for spawned weapons.

I haven't tried it, but could you potentially change the team the weapon belongs to? Maybe it would only show up for them? Change it to purple or some team nobody ever uses.

Idk why anyone would ever want to make a 4sk BR gametype other than nostalgia. And here's a tip for your gametype: see if 1 BR burst + 1 snipe body shot = kill.

And yes, why can't we have individual weapon modifiers? Let people play the way they want to in custom games.

To note Spartan Ops is on the list for stuff being showed at the VGAs. Think they will be showing/teasing season 2 Friday?
Wishful thinking:
I want to be shown the update that will allow for scoring, skulls, theater, better protagonist spawns, etc for the rest of THIS SEASON. The cutscenes and story are well done and are getting very interesting, but it's not enough to get me to pay for more of the same lackluster gameplay content. I will admit that I play SpOps a lot for the stupidly easy/high xp credits after I've had my evening adult beverages, but I'm not so alcoholic foolish as to pay for content that's exactly the same as what we've seen so far.
