Halo |OT12| Last One Out, Get the Lights

The competitive community consider the Slayer Pro playlist boring as hell.
Can't say I'm surprised. I'd still wager that TS Pro, even now, consists primarily of those desperate for that MLG/whatever style experience and it's the closest they can get currently without resorting to custom games.

The coin is slayer pro
That's perfect. That really is how it feels, weeping and all.

It needs static weapon spawn timers, a much slower weapon decay rate, and a 5 second mandatory respawn. Then... glory.

I would rather have an option to change the weapon despawn/decay rate. With the fast rate right now, it helps keep the power weapons from flooding the maps. I do think though that it should probably only apply to certain weapons, while primary guns should be lying around for long to provide ammo.

Someone tell me why this is a bad idea and I won't buy it right now.

I cant tell you its a bad idea, Blops2 is definitely worth even full price. I promise.

Will be super fun when even more of the crew gets it so we can start team dominating. Its hard to get on a roll with randoms.

And more than two maps.

Part of the problem with the maps is that they play identical every time because of the lack of static weapon timers and instant respawn. Travel in the Boltshot Mob to power positions on Abandon, mash X when you die, complete your Spartan IV training.

In Infinity, maybe. In every other gametype without Personal Ordnance, it severely hurts the gameplay.

Because I'm curious, does anyone have the link to the MLG page that described why they made changes to the base Halo 3 gameplay? I've tried searching the MLG site for it, but it appears that it no longer exists.

Very true.

I'm a fan of Haven but it feels like a map designed for FFA, not team based multiplayer. It's like the map's funnelling everyone into the centre, and the sight lines are designed to allow everyone to rejoin the action within seconds of spawning.

They increased the base damage to compensate for the BR's random spread, making it an 11 bullet kill in stead of 12 (still a 4 shot).

The only thing stopping me from buying this right now are the reports of bad networking code.
Because I play with people from the east coast, I'm from central US, and in MW3 the netcode was just horrendous for me.

Somewhat to go off Kyle said, it's all about business. It's PERFECTLY FINE to introduce new things to the franchise, but to cut off/eliminate/disable things that the community has grown to love and like. This is Business 101 here, it's nothing crazy. It's always best to keep options and attract both parties. Never alienate both.

Going into Halo 4 I had a lot of hope in the game (it's a good game) and 343 but honestly they have done a pretty piss poor job. It's starting to get to the point I have more fun thinking of ways to fix the game than play. That can't be normal.

I think another issue is 343 always had a slogan about "Made by people who love Halo". What does that mean though? We need people that KNOW Halo.

Its especially painful when Halo was built in the past to give the user control over these options, and to bring almost all staple choices forward from game to game. if Bungie made Halo 4 I bet it would have been similar in many regards, but they would have kept player choice in the mix more strongly and still represented the classic gametypes. I really hope 343 realizes how important this is now and may be willing to add flag drop, no sprint, no auto pickup, 1-sided objectives, etc to custom games and at least have one playlist to represent a more classic experience.

Im fine with almost all the changes except global ordinance, but Im not happy with how they felt the need to force them upon people on all fronts.

Yeah. They used to have a specific page that had that plus a bunch of other stuff like:

Bubble shield removed - slowed down gameplay
Why use a custom powerup instead of Camo/Overshield? - It allows us to tweak and define what length for OS/Camo to be competitive.

And a whole bunch more.

Severely? I don't know what your definition of severely is but to me it sounds like severely would be borderline unplayable. I don't find that to be the case at all.

Yeah, the "core gameplay" of fighting for power weapons becomes silly. If I kill a guy cross map, it's not worth going to get his sniper because he'll be instantly respawning, by the time I get there the weapon might be gone, and it's not worth sacrificing your map position.

It be cool if they did a few different chains of classic mode.
Like classic halo 3 mode with no dmr etc
Tho it would only divide the pop more.
Was on earlier today. Embarassing how few people play modes like dominion and Koth.
But that's only cuz they suck.

I kinda feel like Zanzibar would be a really fun map in Halo 4, but it would be even better if we had 1-sided objective gametypes. One way or another, I want less open and rocky medium-large maps. If they want to make some big maps thats fine with me, but I want more variety both artistically and with layout ideas. I feel like so many maps are built with the same formula.. Haven and Adrift feel really unique compared to all the others, and Abandon had some potential, but I feel it seems half finished.

Also, I want some maps with a little more verticality.. Not like spire, but maps like Construct would be cool, or maps with fall hazards like Lockout or Guardian would be nice also.

I don't think you need to shoehorn a bunch of features from the market leader to 'stay relevant'.

Develop new ideas which work with your product - you will be staying relevant and offering an enticing alternative to the market leader that way.

This pretty much nails it. One thing the drop off in players is showing you is just how fickle the mainstream crowd is. You will only sustain that with the hardcore Halo fan which this game shits on. Most Halo fans played Halo from the Halo CE on either don't like CoD or just like Halo better. Making Halo like CoD was a shortsighted move.

The nerfing of the sandbox to allow for specializations is the biggest offender.

I am at the point where I think they just need a true classic Halo playlist. No nerfs, no sprint, no loadouts. Add in classic 1 flag CTF while your at it. The player movement, jump and all that are great.

Besides with ordinance drops you most likely will come across something anyway.

Zanzibar was the king of 1 Flag CTF. The map was designed around it and Assault. It's a real shame we can play neither gametype in Halo 4.

I just think that our opinions really might be the vocal minority. It's been said before but I think I finally realized it on my own that Halo is going to way of mainstream shooters and trying to dig itself out of a hole created by Call of Duty's crazy surge to the front of the fight.

I think where we want changes that 343 is perfectly happy having and doesn't necessarily mean they're doing it maliciously but they're just doing what they need to try and stay 'relevant'.

I wish they would cater a playlist to the older fans of the franchise but I feel it may be sink or swim for this crowd.

I agree, and want to add one note. What I recoiled from in Halo 4, and what has taken me a while to come to identify and come to grips with are the ways the CoD chasing is incompatible with Halo's core designs. They're ideas that can work, but no when applied to Halo's combat model. (The easy one is shield recharge/instant respawn design collision. But it's lots and lots of those things added up.) But in the end I think there are enough shiny objects in the mix to keep a lot of people playing for a while.

But between chasing CoD and gutting what had become core Halo features, it's clear to me that 343's vision of Halo has diverged from what I loved about it for ten years. Which is sad; Halo was huge. I did not need to go after CoD. But it was a bigger prize and they went all in.

Given 343's direction here odds are good this was my last Halo title.

Well going across maps to pick up power weapons and sacrificing your position on the map was always situational in previous Halo games. Either a teammate would pick up his dropped power weapon or he would spawn and get it again (if it really was cross map). I can think of many times on the Pit where I would lose sniper top tower and have either of those things happen. I think that killing players cross map (like top tower sniper on pit, sniper on narrows, guy on P2/P3 on Midship) opened doors for getting better map control that has now changed due to Instant respawn.

I tend to think that the quicker weapon despawn changed it more for the player who had the weapon, rather than the people on the other team. I feel like now, if you're not careful enough and die with your weapon you're pretty much not getting it back unless you get a lucky spawn nearby. But again, it all depends on the map, situation and weapon so it's hard for me to say it's completely one way or completely another way.

343 hasn't announced it (lolz), but this is what people found:

  • Haven has been fixed. Weapons are no longer in the floor
  • Killcams have been improved
  • End Game killcams are better now added in some gametypes?
  • Game is reportedly smoother
  • Loadouts may have reset

Yea I've already noticed the Haven fixes with Global Ordnance, that's nice. Haven't noticed death cams yet but I'll keep an eye on it. Smoother in what ways? Lag and stuff?

Has 343 even acknowledged this update?

edit: Ricken, this was discussed a while ago. Looks like Plywood is taking it.

I like Plywould, he helped me overcome my Tier-2ness.

The Halo 4 OT1 was my last Halo thread. OT's should be done by people who are passionate about the game/series/developer. That's no longer me.

Straight up, if 343 fixed:
  • Playlist Management
  • Spartan Ops Episode 6-10 are god like
  • Removed Flinch

Would you come back?
