Depends on where you are...

And where are you? I don't see why this would affect online availability. I'm getting the same thing as Wario.

I thought nintendo land at least would have charted. Or does NPD not count bundled software?

At the bottom it says it doesn't count bundled software.

EB Canada. I have yet to see the status change since launch. The same goes for FutureShop, BestBuy and Wal-Mart.

Not to say it's fully sold out, I'm sure if you looked you could find one, but the claims that you can find mountains of them at every big box store are probably exaggerated.

I wouldn't be surprised if posts like this are irrelevant after tomorrow night. Half-expecting some kind of Durango pre-reveal teaser at the VGAs.
Microsoft launching durango will not hurt them.
Its userbase is tied through live.
Nintendo has to reaquire every single person who bought a wii. The only investment these ppl hav on nintendos platform is ther wiimotes.

360 > Wii + Wii U is genuinely surprising to me. I expected a lot more Wii's to move this Black Friday. Wii still sold almost 900k last year.

Generally speaking you don't wait until your console is completely dead to replace it unless you hate yourself and want to give competitors as big a window of opportunity as possible.

given how sales have been declining all year, it would have been a smart move for microsoft to launch their new thing this year. they would have clobbered nintendo, and put sony in a bad spot by being last.

nintendo's not doing themselves any favors, but a head start is a head start, and it's possible they could turn things around in time for the next ms console hits, especially if that thing has problems of its own.

3DS already has Mario Kart, 3D Mario and 2D Mario, yet it sold less unit this November than in 2011.

It's almost as if Mario sold so much last gen because Nintendo had already drawn in a gazillion casuals beforehand to sell it to.

Oh, who am I kidding, that can't be it.

There wasn't a single launch title that had the kind of draw that Twilight Princess had though.

So then it's not the install base that would impede a Wii U title from making the top 10, but rather the quality/appeal of the launch software. ;)

Gamesindustry.biz updated their article:

NPD industry analyst Liam Callahan put the decline into context with the last major console transition period. “It's important to compare this month's results to November 2005, which was the last time the industry began to transition between console generations with the launch of a new platform. Comparing this month's results to November 2005, retail video games sales are nearly twice as big as they were then (+97 percent). This really demonstrates the long-term health of retail sales even as many platforms are quite late in their lifecycles,” he noted.

“Despite an overall retail video game decline of 11 percent, November had the smallest year-over-year decrease we have seen for dollar and unit sales so far this year. This is a sign of momentum going into the December holiday period.”

Interestingly, Callahan also pointed out that Wii U's launch performance compared quite favorably to the original Wii's launch (from a revenue standpoint). “The much anticipated launch of the new Wii U console brought in more dollars than the Wii launch in November 2006, up 21 percent from that launch month," he said. "With an average price 35 percent higher for the Wii U at launch compared to the Wii, this is an example of how consumers are willing to come out and spend when they see the value of the product.”

Why you guys saying under 600k? MS said nearly x2, which means a minimum of 630k for PS3, up to whatever they class as 'nearly'

If it's not a sign to release new consoles next year, I don't know what else it could be. Xbox 360 sales will decline even further next Christmas, so it would be a good time for Microsoft to release a successor.

How can this only apply to Microsoft? So far they seem to have the most steam.

Get your shit together Reggie!

I think the proverbial bubble burst on Wii and may have affected WiiU buyer perception even if only slightly. Kind of like DS taking some of the wind from the 3DS's sails.

Assuming Wii ASP: $250
Assuming Wii Nov 2006 sales: 476k

Total revenue: $119 million

119 million * 1.21 / (250 * 1.35) = 427k (emphasis on assuming)

MS have done really well lately. Kinect was a boon to get them into the casual arena and spur some more sales. Add in the price drops and massive game catalog due to the console getting near end of life and it's a very compelling proposition. And the fact that nothing Wii U is besting it at all will help a little too.

I say milk this generation for all you can. I don't think a "next generation" is going to fix declining revenues. It might accelerate it, for all we know, as people don't feel compelled to upgrade while simultaneously not supporting their current systems. There are too many choices and too few good ones, if you ask me.

I'm trying to compare to past launches but didn't 360 have a couple of games in the software top 10 back when it launched?

Might have, but at that point the GameCube was dead and the XBOX was about to be killed. So there was mostly only PS2 game sales to compete with.

Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter deemed the November sales results -- a record 12 months of declines -- as "worse than I expected."

The culprit, he says, was Wii U hardware sales, which came in about $50 million below expected, and sales of Nintendo handhelds, the DS and 3DS. "Wii U hardware was sold out, we checked, so it's a supply issue," he says. But Wii U software sales "was abysmal, only Super Mario sold any meaningful units."

DS being up and 3DS down tells us that there is still huge confusion regarding the platforms. They are so close in price that DS should die and 3DS get those sales but it's not happening. Really bizarre.
