Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

_dementia,

This was inside the HRAP2. So going by the guide you linked to I just need to rotate the PCB. Seems easy enough. Don't have an extra LS-32-01 but I'm sure one of my other sticks has one that I can borrow from temporarily to try it out.

Looks like those BrawlSticks are $20 a piece at the MadCatz store again. They were that around Black Friday as well, and I keep getting temped to pick them up for future stick mods or just for quick and easy to use 360 / PC PCBs.

Think I might pass though. I kinda blow all my years worth of gaming cash around Black Friday already, so I can't really see tossing out an extra $40 (+ shipping) or so for stick projects that I'm not even working on currently yet. Tempting though.

I also want to put in a good word for those SFxT pads that were in MarkMan's post up a couple. I picked up one of those for $20 in a previous sale and it's been super useful to me. I've had a travel a bit to some boring locations recently, so I just picked up the big Sega Genesis PC collection (it was like 50+ Genesis games for $7.50 I think) and installed that on my netbook. With the pad it turns it into a really great little portable genesis on the go and the pad is a great fit for that with the 3 over 3 layout, nice dpad and no extra sticks.

Over in the Cave thread I got some advice about a used Hori EX-SE I bought, but rather than continue to derail that thread I figured I should post here. Basically the stick seems to be worn down, despite the seller claiming it is hardly used. There is a deadzone where the stick has multiple neutral positions...it does not perfectly snap back to the center.

I made a quick video to show what I mean...multiple people have said there should be no deadzone, but I just want to make sure my definition of a deadzone is not erroneous. I don't want to give the seller a hard time if this is how it is supposed to be.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewxCmm-lQjU&feature=youtu.be

How does this look to you guys? Is it normal to stay offset while in neutral?

I wonder if you could just replace the spring on this.

That would be the next best thing. But if the deadzone is as large as Ra1den claims, the levers on the microswitches could be worn out as well. That's why I suggested replacing the whole stick assembly with a fresh part.

Whoa I think I'm gonna grab a couple of these...an X360 one to mod with Seimitsu stuff and a PS3 one to go Sanwa. I always seemed to miss the sales on these in the past, thanks for the heads up.

Thing is I paid nearly $120 for this thing since it was described as like new, so I don't feel like putting in more money or work into it when for an extra 40 bucks or so I could have got a brand new one. The seller is balking a bit but if he refuses I'll just file a claim...I've got video evidence showing the problem.

Sanrio stick is too cute. But I'm broke :-(

Hopefully around for a bit. The EVO stick had the same number and have lasted for a very long time.

Only real men use pink sticks.

This is truth!

Clearly I'm not drunk ENOUGH, or I'd be punching in my credit card details into the shopping cart. I'll give it a few more hours and drinks, and we'll see where this night ends.

I replied to your video. Unfortunately that's a typical LS-32. It doesn't bother some people, but I couldn't stand it. Order an LS-40 if it bothers you. It should only take a few minutes to install in that HRAP. It engages sooner and has almost zero dead zone. Sits a little higher too, making it a bit more comfortable for my larger American hands.

Just ordered a WWE Brawl Stick for PS3 from the MadCatz store. I finally will have a stick! Now to finish up my woodworking project of making my own... One day it will be done!

It's normal for the stick to get stuck in off-center positions?

If you mean it actually takes significant force to move it away from off-center, that's not normal. But it's perfectly normal for there to be a small area where there's simply no tension. I never really noticed but every last stick I have (mostly LS-32s but tried a JLF too) has an area like this.

What area are you in? I think you really need someone to try your stick hands on to see if there really is a problem.

Why did this have to be announced today? :( I want this so bad, but I don't get paid for another week. Welp, hopefully it doesn't sell out before then.

I did let a couple people that have sticks try it and they said it is not how theirs are. A small neutral area does seem like an expected thing, but the way it gets stuck like I show in the video is what makes this thing a jerky mess to use. If I engage the stick to the right, rather than snap back to a perfect center as one would expect, it stays offset to the right, and then if I push left there is a hiccup in the movement as it goes past the center, because it starts from that offset position.

I really can't imagine this being normal.

From the video everything looked normal. However, your description does not sound like normal behavior. It almost sounds like someone took the stick apart and didn't put it back together properly.

If you are near Austin I would be happy to check out the stick. Better yet, I have a spare LS-32 lying around that I could give you.

That's a very nice offer, thanks. I am at the opposite side of the country unfortunately.

Yes it is possible he took it apart... the thing is, even before I touched the joystick, I was surprised how many scuffs this thing had all over it. The ball top, all over the faceplate, and one huge one on the back of the stick...it has clearly seen a ton of use. No point in spending $120 on a heavily used stick when a new one could have been had for not much more. The only reason I paid that much was because he emphasized how it had been hardly touched.

I'm going to buy sticks new only from now on. Snagged a couple Brawlsticks so I'll just drop some Seimitsu parts in there. The ls-40-01 is sounding like my best bet if I want max sensitivity.

Legit! Madcatz posted on their facebook.

I'm actually getting one. Whoo! The mother just said my KLM/Delta claims check came in (for my lost Wii and other stuff), so I'm cash flush, lol.

Looks Red like the SFXT.

Looks pink to me. Maybe bad lighting.

Oh yeah, very pink. Pink like the Qanba stick. With black bottom. There is a user on SRK who put up photos of his.

Big question: go for PS3 or 360? The colored buttons look really good on the 360 but the nice all black would look sexy with the black bottom.

Yup. I love my LS-40. It's my main stick nowadays.
And it's pink.

alright. i just ordered the sanrio stick. question: i was looking to make some small cosmetic mods. should i just go with 6 pink buttons and a white balltop?

I'd wait till getting the stick in to verify the pink and how it might matriculate with the shades Sanwa/Seimitsu put out. If it is even a bit different it is going to clash like a mofo. White balltop, however, would be ace...like a little kitten head.

thanks for the advice, i think i just got too excited lol. white balltop for sure. maybe some clear white buttons. i looked on the sanrio site for a color palette, looks like i could add some blue buttons...not sure how it matches the actual sanrio shade of blue though.

edit: what's an easy diy mod for the underside of the fightstick pro? i really prefer the all felt bottom of the qanba/eightarc sticks, do people just glue like a mousepad to the underside of the stick?

What are the best sticks specifically for arcade games such as pac man, metal slug, etc? I plan to buy two for my girlfriend and I.

For Pac-Man, or any other game that use only 4 cardinal directions, you're best off with a 4-way stick. Since the most commonly used arcade sticks nowadays utilize Sanwa JLF levers, you can switch it from 8-way to 4-way by moving from square to diagonal as shown in this video.

Ah well. I think you'll like the LS-40. I think it's Seimitsu's most versatile stick. It works great with shmups and other arcade style games and it's not too bad for fighting games either. There is a reason you find them standard in JP Neo Geo cabs.

What a wonderful novelty stick.

This post made me want to buy two of the PS3 brawl sticks and mod them with the LS-40. I've never modded sticks but I love tinkering, so I think I will do that too.

Soooooo the Madcatz/Hello Kitty sicks are already gone? I was trying to get one, they went fast :(

Wow, that was quick.

Glad I got my order in. Missed the last red one (SFXT) because I was in afghanistan with no computer. It is a hot license, hopefully MC will offer another version in the next six months.

It's actually very straight forward. Make sure you get the LS-40 01. It has the 5 pin adapter making it a direct swap. I don't think any of LS-40s come with an S bracket, so you will need to order that too.

The other thing you should do is make sure you have the lever oriented the right way before you screw it in. IIRC, Seimitsu levers have the 5-pin connector positioned 90 degrees different from the orientation used by the stock equipment in a MadCatz stick. It's easy to figure this out: plug in the connector to the LS-40, then connect the controller to your console. If only one direction works, unplug the connector, turn it over, and then plug it back in. Then just turn the lever in your hand until you find the correct orientation.
