Can someone explain this to me? I just read this on EG, and they were saying that the "spaces between the letters, and the awkward lines spell on MGS5." But hasn't someone just superimposed the lettering on the image?

I don't understand.

It spells Metal Gear Solid V

Yes...."incredibly small"

Incredibly small......

I love that one of the reactions was that this was a next-gen crawling simulator. MGS4 has the most memorable crawling sequence in the history of gaming so that should have been a big hint that this might have been Kojima related.

Also question why people thought it was all QTEs. I'm guessing the crawling is going to be a little more dynamic like that. The crawling around looked like it was actual gameplay, and I could be wrong, but my guess is the animation system is going to be like Uncharted where they blend in all of these specific animations at certain spots, but you'll still always be in control of the character.

That's my fallback theory. For all the power and craziness Kojima wields, I just can't see the whole of KojiPro working on two big Metal Gear games at once. Unless KojiPro LA is bigger than I think.

Even though the effort failed, they were working on two Metal Gear games before though. Project Ogre and MGS Rising. So the capacity should be there for them to do two games. And that's not even taking into account whatever man power they are now building in KP LA.

I didn't see this in the past 4 or so pages... I know some of this was mentioned before by a few posters, and they are very close, but spoilers...

Chronologically, Phantom Pain comes after Metal Gear.

Big Boss fights Solid Snake in Metal Gear. Self destruct sequence that Big Boss gets caught in obviously doesn't kill him. At the end he promises to see Solid again.

Anyway... Dr. Marv (NOT Madnar.. look at Marv from Metal Gear games, specifically 2, and compare him to the one from the trailer... perfect match) reconstructs (not resurrects... Big Boss was alive...) with the state of the art prosthetic limbs... Phantom Pains anyone?

So... It has to be after MG 1 because explosion, before MG 2 because Marv gets killed.

Sorry if this is already mentioned.

If its Marv, then between MG1 and MG2 makes a lot of sense. But if GZ and PP are the same game, then that means it spans several years, because the scene we saw in GZ seems to be happening literally weeks or months after Peace Walker ends based on Chico's appearance.

It's definitely not after MG1, come on guys. Unless the character shown will be replaced by the real character model in the real-game (older Big Boss).

I feel like Kojima has already been fucking with us in regards to the character model. His age seems to vary in GZ and the promo picture that they released around that time already. People put it down to lighting in that scene, but in the PP trailer, theres no flood lights going on, so Big Boss actually does look a lot older than he does in the GZ promotional picture at the very least.

Will the world ever let Kojima do something new?

I wonder if at the end of this game he just shatters the fourth wall, he just murders the entire cast, past and present, on screen and asks "DID YOU LIKE IT" and just walks out like a boss.

The Real Big Boss.

Ok so in terms of chronology... I guess this and Ground Zeroes (whether they are one and the same or not) are what, early 90s? Late 80s? That era?

Edit: Unless... this in the future, and it's a fourth clone, in some military test facility dumping ground, and he's been programmed, with the memories of Big Boss and they bleed through into his reality in the form of these horrific visions (the horse, the dragon thing, the flaming man).

Do it, Kojima. You know you want to. Let's get crazy again!

Ground Zeroes is mid-to-late 70's. It seems like it happens right after Peace Walker just due to Chico's age.

This trailer seems like it could take any place between the late 70s to the late 90s.

Here's Big Boss' appearance just for comparison

MGS3 (1964):

Peace Walker (1974):

GZ original promo image vs. the image without the goggles that Kojima tweeted (his head is inexplicably bigger without the googles, seems like a bad photoshop):

GZ poster (taken from trailer):

According to Kojima, Snake's hair in the above image was only grey due to "rim-lighting".

PP trailer:

MGS4 (2014):

Wait, so Big Boss isn't a grey haired old man in Ground Zeroes? I thought for sure this guy couldn't be him because of the different hair color, but if it's just due to "rim lighting" then that would make at least a little more sense.

Kinda funny that even after patching up Big Boss with the remains of Solidus and Liquid in MGS4, they choose not to give his eye back.

Yeah... I believe that's why Kojima tweeted that second image. To make that point.

There is no "grey haired old man" in Ground Zeroes, it was the light reflecting on his hair. Big Boss is not old not grey in GZ.

Kojima rectified this a day after the GZ trailer.

I'm more excited about seeing Trolljima in action than the game itself.

Twist: Moby Dick Studios actually exists and is making a supernatural survival horror game called The Phantom Pain, and teamed up with Kojima to simultaneously reveal MGS5 in the craziest crossover collaboration ever seen in gaming. It's a win-win.

Good point, a double troll.
They didn't say it's MGs 5, but scattered enough hints that everyone would believe it is.
So, it's not mgs5, but they want you to believe it is, except it really isn't.

I've stopped caring about the story inconsistencies and the crazy technology stuff in the MGS saga since I played MGS 4 (which, for me, was utter mediocrity).

So, really, I don't mind if a giant fiery whale swallows a whole chopper and Snakehab's hand, and then he starts hunting it down or whatever. I mean, we've seen more or less crazier shit in the MGS saga and I shudder when I think that the first MGS on PSOne is giving birth to such bizarre scenarios.

I only hope it'll have some small vestiges of interesting gameplay, and Kojima can actually reveal that Big Boss was a T-800 for all I care.

Two days later, I must say that this is the coolest reveal of a big franchise I have seen. Seeing that trailer, intuitively grasping that it has to be something else than it seems, wondering about that mysterious studio, the Japanese vibe, the unsettling awkwardness of the trailer, detective-GAF solving the mystery... So good.

What?

Somehow i disnt know that, but God the more I know about MGS4 the more I cringe

Metal Gear wikia said:
Prior to 2014, Big Boss's DNA and biometric data was used for the Patriots' ID recognition system, the use of which allowed access to their AI network (also an earlier version of the Patriots' SOP System). The organization also declassified documents relating to Big Boss's exploits during the 1960s, which contributed to a resurgence in his popularity to the public, with various soldiers beginning to adopt some of his CQC techniques (although not to the extent of how Big Boss used it). In the 2010s, Big Boss's body was recovered from the Patriots by EVA, with the assistance of Raiden. Using the body parts of Liquid and Solidus Snake, EVA had Big Boss's body rebuilt, eventually restoring him to his former appearance, though he remained in comatose state due to the Patriots' nanomachines within him.

Nanomachines?

Nanomachines.

Interestingly, the site also has a pic of a very scrawny Big Boss when his remains are mentioned. I can't remember, isn't this pic back from MGS, I think it was in the guide I had. That would mean he was pretty much intact during the Shadow Moses incident, but still having his robot parts before they harvested Liquid and Solidus.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
The letters thing is still borderlining a little suss for me, because it's reaching into truly crazy conspiracy territory, shaping evidence to suit a theory rather than looking at evidence objectively. Shapes in clouds, and all that, which is the same shit that dominated all the dumb Half-Life 3 "teases" desperate fans claimed to find in various Steam and Team Fortress 2 art.

But the curvatures are just too much. They fit too well, in sequence of the chosen letters. And so I believe.

The letters of the main title being missing also fits perfectly with the theme of the announced title. Arm is missing, headline title is missing.

It's definitely the random curve missing in the middle of letters that makes it for me.

Am i the only one to make some sort of connection between phantom 'pain' > phantom limb syndrome > missing arm/hand. it's probably absolutely nothing but it's been in my head all day..

Honestly, that is the most obvious thing in the world. The trailer opens with a shot of that arm replacement.

Actually he was rebuild using spare parts from Solidus and Liquid.

Video Games.

I can NOT see mgsv written in the phantom pain logo...can someone do a crappy like ms paint job on it or something to make it more obvious? I also could never see the stupid magic eye images as a kid.

So, there are theories of Phantom Pain being set between MG1 and MG2, with doctor Kio_Marv rebuilding Big Bossess broken body after his epic fight against Solid Snake...

Chances for that are very slim. Just look at Gouda Jouji's timeline:
DaBGE.png

Ground zeroes start 0-5 years after Peace Walker and in it BB is older, but not much older. MG1 happened 20 years after Peace Walker, there is no way PP BB is 15-20 years older than BB shown in GZ demo.

IMO, PP has to happen well before MG1.

Chico and Paz are in Ground Zeroes/MGS5. This game is a direct sequel to Piss Wanker.

Only Kojima could manage a main villain that nobody even remembers... thanks MGS4.

I remember him as the cool and endearing James Bond fan from MGS3.

Goddamn you Kojima, goddamn you.

I still don't like the thought of Rising being canon, personally.
