Wow, I didn't realize going to settings was 10+ seconds, and back to the front page was 23ish. Jesus Christ Nintendo.

shall be interesting to look at this type of stuff and a few more months down the road see how drastic the change is with load times and such

And here I am complaining when the 360's home button menu has a five second delay.

I'm surprised there's no video for "how long from when I select ZombiU to when I actually play" like they did with... Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 I guess on PSP.

It's a good thing she cut it off when the Youtube app was loading, because one can easily die of old age in the time it takes to boot that app up (or Netflix), a function that loads up instantaneously on most hardware in our house.

I'm not placing my hopes on a patch that will solve things, but it'd be nice. I'm very curious to see if the OS's on the Sony and Microsoft consoles are as blindingly fast as I hope they are.

Definitely needs to be fixed ASAP. WTF is that 1 GB of system RAM being used for? Cause it sure as hell isn't used for persistent or quick-launching apps.

24 seconds wtf is nintendo doing. fire your programmers.

I don't get anywhere near 24 seconds. The longest load for me is indeed the home menu from an app like settings (when coming from a game or app, however, its instant if you're only in one of the 5 always-ready apps - Miiverse, Browser, Friends List etc) - but even then it takes like 10 seconds tops.

I've noticed severe variability in loading the home menu and loading miiverse depending on my internet connection though. If someone in the house is downloading torrents, its irritating as fuck.

Its like they're loading in the internet stuff before they load the UI, or at the same time. They should update it so it loads the UI first.

Remember guys, if it isn't over a minute, then it isn't slow!

I'm sitting here, thinking you guys are waiting a few minutes, but seconds? Not even half a minute. No wonder I never notice it go slow. That isn't slow. You want slow? Deal with my old android phone. Damn thing took 2 and a half minutes to load up one PDF file, that's slow. This, in my eye, is quite fast.

But to answer your question, it took about 15 - 16 seconds to fully load.

Haha. I don't understand why Setiings take so long to load. The other bits of the OS aren't so bad, I've stopped noticing, although they should be faster.

Damn.

Remember when Nintendo stubbornly stuck with cartridges for n64 because they hate load times?

What happened.

Nintendo doesn't care about the OS as much as they do about games. Which is probably how it should be, but not to this level of disparity. This is like leaving the OS baby out in the rain while it dies of pneumonia while you give your Games baby a Christmas present.

Or something.

Wow, and I thought that 3DS's lag upon entering the Settings menu was bad. I don't know how the tablet can be so slow, especially when it is ~60% of the price of the entire WiiU set (as reported by the guy that had his GamePad stolen lately).

I guess that explains why I haven't explored the OS too much. I'm kind of scared of all that loading time.
I actually haven't opened settings once.

Except we don't really know what the Christmas presents are yet. Could be Turbo Man.

Could be dysentery.

It's bad. Comparing it to old Android phones is even sadder. The fact that it's even part of the comparison process implies it's bad.

The Pad is basically a display, everything is streamed to the its screen. The problem doesn't even have to do with the hardware, it's entirely related to shoddy OS software.

I don't get how Nintendo managed to do this again. 3DS had/has the same huge-ass loading issue with its settings menu too. Firmware updates helped a fair bit though.

The tablet is just a controller.

I don't mind retardedly slow loading, but the Wii U's ETA counters are just salt rubbed on the wound.

Example running NSMBU update: the ETA counter says 00:10 aka 10 seconds - it really takes four minutes. When the ETA counter says the magical "Less than a minute," it really takes three more minutes.

That is just laughably stupid.

It explains why they were somewhat hush-hush on the OS until people got to see it when it was bought and in their living rooms. For shame Ninty.

That's HH:MM. You're reading it wrong.

It's good that Iwata knows this is a problem. It would suck if Nintendo spun this around and chose not to fix it.

For a hardware company that took, what, 8 months to get their first online multiplayer game up and running last gen (Super Mario Strikers) I'll be surprised if we get a patch by E3.

Unless one's been announced and I haven't heard of it.

The Wii U loads off of internal flash memory, doesn't it? What the hell is it loading that takes 24 seconds? The entire OS over and over again?

Haha. Well played.
