League of Legends is confusing as heck. Have not even gotten one kill, what.

All my friends play it and I can't get myself to like this game, I'm notb ad at it, in fact I played 3 or 4 games and owned the shit out of the enemies and won everygame, but I have no fun :(

It's hard at first, but when you unlock new characters and get used to their move set and how to play with them it's fairly easy.
Yeah, so far I just can't get any kills so I just try to be backup. I guess it's just a game I gotta learn, analyse and keep at it.

I'm 10 hours into Dota 2 and I don't know how people lose their shit for this stuff. I'll stick with it 'cause I want to figure it out before it just clicks and I love it, or I get it and dismiss it as not for me.
It's my first try in the Dota genre and I kind of see the appeal of it so far. Played with a team that was really supportive all the way through and it was tons of fun, in the end I they upped me with honor points.

True, but your list is huge and it's unlikely 343 is going to take the time and energy to do all of them. My list is relatively small and would be fairly easy to do outside of adding Red X's to the game. They could do a TU playlist for the changes I listed. I realize 343 is never going to remove Infinity Slayer or Infinity BTB, but a TU/Classic/whatever you wanna call it updated playlist would probably be hugely successful.

True. It makes more sense to do stuff like this in a separate playlist. My list mentioned adding "Classic Slayer" and "Classic Objective" playlists which is basically what you're saying as well.

I love League, too intimidated to post over at LoLGAF tho. It gets better the more you play, you definitely don't want to hop into PvP matches right away, stick to the tutorial and bot games. Try out different champions until you get a feel of what you might like and then focus on those a bit, they'll provide enough consistency for you to hone your skills while providing gameplay that you've already determined you enjoy. The more you play the more you'll get accustomed to what champions play what roles and figure out what you enjoy from that point, etc.

This is what I wanted to avoid - these sweeping changes would completely change what Halo 4 is. I realize that's what most of you guys actually want, but it is completely unrealistic. I would suggest just playing Halo 3 if you feel this way :p

My list simply improves/fixes the game 343 attempted to create.

Not true. Only big change is getting rid of the AA's. Unfortunately for us all, AA's are here to stay.

But Red X's
Static over Global
Spawn Timers

These are borderline essential for a good game.

For reasons that make too much sense and that we've gone over too many times

I just don't notice a big difference with or without it. Like if you've been playing halo for a few years, and you're halfway decent at aiming, you might as well ditch it. For people who like to be boring and sit back and camp with the DMR and sniper for entire BTB matches, maybe. But I dislike those people sincerely! :)

Longtime players like myself are more familiar with descoping when getting shot. The flinch mechanic is disorienting, moreso than descoping i find. The Stability perk is useful for 1v1s on any part of any map. Not just sitting in the back of a btb map.

In short, its awesome.

I totally agree with you, just not about his line about removing AA's. 343 would never do that unless it was just in a separate "classic" playlist.

Can you still use Ammo with Stability? I feel like almost all of the perks/specializations that I want to use take up the Ammo slot... which is a deal breaker in BTB. Even with the Ammo perk I run out of shots all the time and have to scavenge or rush the other team.

You have to give up the Ammo perk.

This frustrates me. Why can't we have ammo crates and/or standard guns on map again?

It can be a huge pain in the ass not having ammo with Stability. Ive been using Firepower and using the Light Rifle as secondary, been working out pretty good so far. Might swap it for the Carbine though. Carbine wont be too useful in Big Team however.

Would love to have Stability and Ammo together. Ran with ammo for the first 2-3 weeks i had the game. Giving it up after that long just feels... wrong. Like i start with barely any ammo now.

They should make another specialization that lets you equip an extra perk
Halo 5

That's how I feel about giving up Mobility for Fast Track. but gotta get dat XP

Anyway I wish there was a way to enable multiple or all perks in custom games. Imagine Stability+Mobility+Dexterity+Ammo+Firepower etc...

Or let us have that for a super hard Spartan Ops mode.

Posting for the new page. I am proud of my fake patch notes. I think they are reasonable and realistic.

I know most of you would prefer more, like "lol get rid of ordinance" and "lol remove AAs and sprint" but I'm just curious if anybody has a problem with the stuff I did list. I think Halo 4 would be a much better game if the above changes were made. If I was a more annoying person I'd PM this post to one of the 343 dudes on Gaf.

Love the list, and I do agree that unfortunately there is a lot that needs to be fixed/removed that they won't do (AA's, ordinance, as you stated). But other than that I agree with pretty much everything else, especially BTB playlist (make sure slayer isn't weighted at 90% like Reach), DMR range, Red X's, etc...

I think 343 needs to start catering back to the Halo fans that have been there since the beginning MP wise as it seems the game is really starting to cater to the new player unfortunately. While the new player shouldn't be excluded, they need to find a better balance between the two, and 4's MP is not it.

I'll keep it short and simple. Just a few changes and I think a lot more people would be happy:

  • Change Global/Personal Ordnance to Static drops
  • Respawn Timers in Most Playlists
  • Red X on dead players
  • Remove Invis, PV, and Jetpacks.

Bam! This is what I think most traditional halo fans want, but there are a lot of current and new players that I think really like the CoD stuff.

And if I could add one more change, I'd wipe the Mantis, Banshee, and Gauss Hog from BTB. Wet dreams!

The problem with flinch is, as seems to be the mantra for Halo 4, that it's random movement of the reticle when shot. Descoping was at the very least predictable, flinch is not. It seems flinch was added to the game just so the Spec could be used later, which is an extremely poor gameplay decision. Just let me have a shootout with a guy and let my own shitty aiming be the cause of my death, I don't need randomness to make things worse.

As to your list, I offer this:

  • Static drops for Global Ordnance, no random weapons. Keep waypoint and ordnance drop sound to help less-experienced players. This will help out in figuring callouts for maps.
  • No instant respawn outside of Fiesta Infinity Slayer gametypes.
  • Teammate death locations moved from radar where they are worthless, to the playing field like they used to be.
  • Add overly abused AA's like camo, PV, and jetpack to Personal Ordnance. No high-tier power weapons allowed, add loadout resupply to option (includes primary, secondary, and grenade choice). This will focus battles back to fighting over map-specific power weapons, while still giving players smaller, less ridiculous upgrades.
  • Remove Gauss 'hog and Scorpion from all maps, remove Banshee from Exile. I personally think the Mantis is one of the better vehicles that have been brought to the table in terms of balance. Slow, easy to board, player can't exit when boarded, etc.

Exactly the same situation with red X's and the Stalker spec, as you noted. Totally ridiculous.

Halo has changed. It's no longer about weapons, grenades, and melee. It's an endless series of loadout battles fought by bks and randoms. Halo - and it's once classic gameplay, are no longer a well-oiled machine. Halo has changed. Instantly Respawned Spartans carry ordnance deployed weapons, use game altering AAs. Support mods inside their armor enhance and regulate their abilities. Weapon Control. Spawn Control. Map Control. Everything is now random, it all lacks control. Halo has changed. The age of rock vs rock has become the age of rock, paper, scissor...All in the name of appealing to a broader audience. And he who used to control the battlefield...is now pushed aside. Halo has changed. When the battlefield is no longer controllable, Halo stops being Halo.

Edit. So no one is confused, I'm just poking fun using the MGS4 "War has changed" speech as reference. Starts about 1:30 in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0I7bMYtgpI&sns=em

Just the Scorpion, which hardly ever works in MP. Wraith is good, but they've only been using it in Dominion setups on Longbow and as a default vehicle in Vortex.

...especially BTB playlist (make sure slayer isn't weighted at 90% like Reach), DMR range, Red X's, etc...
Thank 343 for making Reach's BTB into that. Bungie did set it up better by adding in Assault and using CTF more. Once they were out, it became Spire-Boneyard Slayer with an introduction of Heavies yet again.

I'd rather see the Scorpion just have a really large respawn timer and only have it on select maps, like it is now. I would also rather see Gauss Hog have a large respawn timer and longer time between shots.

I have no problem with the Banshee, I think its fine in Halo 4.

Its definitely changed, but this is absurd, especially the bolded. You're watering it down and over generalizing.

Wow. So they make the map pack free and now through a series of lies they are taking it away. At this point would it hurt them to be honest and say "We made a mistake". Goodness.

TOYS ALL UP IN YO FACE.

Sarah Palmer, I hate you, but you make a pretty awesome figure.

I don't care for her character, but I need that Palmer figure. Those look seriously awesome.

So they found a way to disable the maps for those people that purchased them for 0 MS Points? December 18 at 9am UTC/GMT is going to be a very fun day to be observing the Waypoint forums.

They also locked the comments on that blog post.

Its so weird that they are going with the "we meant to do this!" stance, but at least we now have a definitive answer from a definitive source. I feel for 343 here, this stance was definitely decided at MS and now they kinda have to play clueless and go along with it.

So awesome.

This is really the key point. It blows my mind that they thought instant respawn would make King of the Hill and Oddball more fun.

I was trying to figure out all of the different AA slot combinations. From IGN's Halo 4 Guide, it looks like all the Armor Mods you get from Specializations take up either a Tactical Package slot or a Support Upgrade Slot. Here ya go FWIW. Might be a good thing to add to the OT...

Armor Abilities:
  • Active Camouflage
  • Hard Light Shield
  • Promethean Vision
  • Hologram
  • Auto Sentry
  • Jet Pack
  • Regeneration Field
  • Thuster Pack
Tactical Packages:
  • AA Efficiency: AA Efficiency increases the rate at which energy recharges for Armor Abilities
  • Fast Track: The Fast Track armor mod allows Spartans to gain more experiential data from each encounter, effectively ranking up quicker during the process. - Source: Pioneer Specialization
  • Firepower: Firepower allows the use of a primary weapon in the secondary weapon slot.
  • Grenadier: Grenadier increases grenade carrying capacity.
  • Mobility: Mobility allows unlimited sprint.
  • Requisition: The Requisition armor mod allows users the ability to recall their own ordnance requests in order to acquire more helpful weapons in the field. - Source: Tracker Specialization
  • Resupply: Resupply allows the recovery of grenades from fallen allies and foes.
  • Shielding: Shielding speeds up your armor's energy shield recharge rate.
  • Wheelman: The Wheelman armor mod gives Spartans the ability to coax every bit of stamina and durability out of vehicles they are piloting. - Source: Operator Specialization

Support Upgrades:
  • Ammo: Players using Ammo will spawn with an additional magazine worth of ammunition for their primary and secondary loadout weapons, and any personal ordnance they call in during a game will also arrive with an extra magazine.
  • Awareness: You retain your motion sensor while scoped.
  • Dexterity: Dexterity is an Armour Mod that allows faster reload times and switch weapon animation speed.
  • Drop Recon: The Drop Recon armor mod allows users to predict the location and time of an ordnance drop through an external suborbital monitoring system. - Source: Engineer Specialization
  • Explosives: This armour mod increases grenade strength and decreases grenade damge to the user.
  • Gunner: The Gunner armor mod decreases the time of weapon overheat when occupying a vehicle weapon position and increases Spartan speed while carrying a detached turret. - Source: Pathfinder Specialization
  • Nemesis: The Nemesis armor mod allows users to target and track down previous attacking enemies, highlighting them on the armor’s passive sensors. - Source: Stalker Specialization
  • Ordnance Priority: Reduced Threshold for Personal Ordnance.
  • Sensor: Sensor increases the effective range of your motion tracker, allowing you to detect opponents at a greater distance than they can detect you.
  • Stability: The Stability armor mod allows users to increase their aiming stability when being fired upon. - Source: Rogue Specialization
  • Stealth: The Stealth armour mod provides a number of bonuses designed to aid a player who prefers to remain unnoticed by their opponents. When sprinting, the Spartan will make less noise, allowing for stealthier movement around the map. The armour mod also provides a passive defense against opponents who are using Promethian vision; Spartans using Stealth will only show up as a red outline of themselves when viewed in Promethian vision in the same fashion as if they were behind a wall, rather than appearing as a bold red figure as they would normally. The third benefit conferred by Stealth is that players using it will perform assassination animations slightly faster, resulting in a quicker kill. Stealth has no effect on the functioning of the Active Camouflage armour ability, and no effect on how the user appears on enemy motion trackers. - Source: Wetworks Specialization

I feel bad for 343, I don't think they have the ability to go against MS on certain things like Bungie did since Bungie existed prior to MS owning them, and 343 was created by MS solely for Halo games. Clearly what they are saying now isn't what really happened, but they have to go along with it because the boss said so.

We saw the population of the Crimson playlist last night at around 10,000 or so. In the coming weeks I'll be surprised if it's much higher than 1,500.

Still on the fence about buying this because of the 8GB storage requirement. I still have one of the old 2007 models that came with a 20GB hard drive. I can probably delete enough stuff to get up to 8GB's free but I was wondering if the game actually uses that much storage? I'm probably not saying this clear enough but I guess I would like to know if the game sets aside those 8GB's and doesn't let you access them or is that just a minimum number to ensure the game runs smoothly?

I've gotten away with having less than 8GB free so far, you just need enough to store the current disc maps and unpaid spartan-ops DLC (I think). I don't know what the current total is at the moment but it should be in the area of 5.

Ugh... Yeah, that was a disappointing time with Reach and BTB.

Player populations look incredibly low right now, definitely the lowest I have seen them. Depressing. =(

The people they tried to cater Halo 4's MP towards are going back to Call of Duty and the old Halo players are off doing something else since this isn't the MP they know and love.

Whee! I missed all the fun last night.

No. A more accurate analogy would be purchasing something in-store. You hand them the item and they scan it in. You get charged and pay. The next person walks up to that same clerk and says a special phrase. The clerk hands them the item with no charge. Both of you obtained the same item from the same supplier via the same method except the person behind you was sent an email with the phrase.
Ever buy a plane ticket?

No one has any idea if that's true or not. Personally, I don't see how the map pack could be revoked. Hell, if you really wanted the maps, just take your Xbox offline and there you go.

Maybe tomorrow's bulletin will explain this.
I think it's pretty clear that the maps will be left on your drive - but locked. You can avoid having this happen, sure - but only if you're not connected to LIVE. (There'll be a mandatory update next week, and if you download it, you will not be able to use those maps if you got them free. And if you DON'T download it, you will not be allowed on LIVE to play Halo 4.)

Let's assume that this Spec code is the same as a coupon to get the map pack for free. If you were in the store and that was the only place they had distributed the coupons and you walked up and bought the Crimson DLC, only to find that the person afterwards discovered a pile of coupons and bought the pack using that, wouldn't you be the slightest bit annoyed that the store just took your money anyway? A good retailer would stop you at the till and say "Hey, buddy. There's a coupon right there to get this for free. I'll wait here while you go fetch it".
Supermarkets must work differently in Ireland than they do here.

My supermarket distributes circulars by mail every week. If you don't get mail, or if you toss the mail, these circulars are available in large piles at the end of every checkout line. It contains coupons (store coupons) for lots of stuff.

If you choose to buy that stuff without the coupons, nobody bats an eyelash. Nobody tells you to go look in the circular - which is literally 2 feet from where you're standing, waiting to pay. It's up to YOU to do that.

::shrug:: that's just the way it is.

only 3 achievements left and they're the annoying ones. meleeing someone as you come down from a grav lift is gonna be a pain in the ass
It's actually pretty trivial on Shatter (especially if you've got someone on the other team helping you). Jump in one of the grav lifts, and just hover there (well, bounce). Melee someone who walks by. Boom, you got it.

mastrbiggy, since when did you do HBO news? :)

Yeesh, so much for customer service :p.

The example (Hydranock/yours) feels fairly irrelevant to the situation.
Hadn't heard that the maps are going to be locked.

Not sure if it's the best solution, especially PR wise (and game population wise) but better than doing nothing. I guess..

I do not like Shatter at all, it is probably the worst btb map in this game. =(

On another note, I wonder if future map packs will have similar trail periods? It seems like a really cool idea if they actual advertise it ahead of time so people know to expect it. On the flip side, if the maps are as disappointing as these I'm sure many would never bother buying them after the trial.

Big difference between the coupon/sale analogy is there us usually an announcement of a sale, an expectation of one. Especially MERE HOURS after the product is available.

5-10 dollars isn't an obscene amount of money to lose but a lot of this is based on principle.

What if Halo 4 launched, and everyone paid for it at midnight. Or through preorders.

Then at 8am on November 6th you find out they are giving it away for free.

In your example the circulars are still available to everyone and a customer can spot them on the way to the till. The customer knows they exist and will most likely keep an eye out.

With halo 4 the circulars are only available to people who live in specific houses - where not announced at any time and only show up after some people have already paid money for the goods.

The Stability perk is useful for 1v1s on any part of any map.

Well, any part of the map where you're choosing to be scoped in.

Most of my kills are unscoped kills. As well, I haven't found the flinch on the DMR to be very debilitating. I'm mostly excited to complete Rogue as it might make the Light Rifle a great weapon. Again, if you're scoped as much as you might like to pretend, pick up the Light Rifle: it kills faster than a DMR.

How dare they take away my free candy. IT WAS FREE!

He has a point here. Shoudn't there be some terms of service legal shenanigans about locking you out of the maps?

I wonder if they'll just not allow you to play them in matchmaking, and they might still be available for customs.

So next week when 343 tries to lock the maps for people that got them for free, what are the chances that something will go wrong and they will get locked for LE/map pass owners?

100% or 99.99%?

I'm glad they were free. I went into matchmaking all set to purchase the maps and play the DLC playlist. When they rang up as 0 MS Points I was happy, but not ultimately concerned. I confirmed the purchase and played.

Now that I've had a few days with the Crimson pack there is zero chance that I will be paying for these maps. Definitely not worth 800 MS Points. If they didn't stutter from framerate issues during almost every single match I would consider purchasing them, but that isn't the case. Right now in BTB you can play Shatter, then Wreckage, the Shatter again and all of a sudden you get Exile and it is like a breath fucking pristine pure air (even with Gauss Hog and Scorpion). To my eyes it is a night and day difference.

  • Remove Gauss 'hog and Scorpion from all maps, remove Banshee from Exile. I personally think the Mantis is one of the better vehicles that have been brought to the table in terms of balance. Slow, easy to board, player can't exit when boarded, etc.

That's a list that would make me very excited about some Halo. I could play Exile again. Maps would regain their identity and flow. King of the Hill and Oddball would be perfect. On my ex would be back.

I did remove your AA and personal ordnance changes, though. Those aren't going to change anywhere other than in some strictly competitive hopper. The AAs are part of the sandbox of Halo 4, so they'll be balanced but never removed. The personal ordnance change is part of the Fiesta Slayer they're going for. Every so often you get lucky, killin' bros with an Incineration Cannon on Haven. That's pie in the sky for general playlists, but again, competitive lists with predefined loadouts will be the solution for that ill.
