Bayonetta complains about the Wii U's slow OS on Youtube

I still think there is a great deal of FUD and general confusion here.

If you compared the 360 and the Wii U side-by-side, does anyone actually believe you'd be able to complete this sequence faster on the former?
(1) turn the system on,
(2) reach the main menu,
(3) launch a retail game,
(4) enter actual gameplay, then
(5) switch to the web browser, look something up, and
(6) return to your game.

I've suffered through the 360 dashboard at friend's houses far too many times now to believe that it could accomplish the above any faster.

By the time I hit the power on my gamepad and sit down, the Wii U is nearly on the main menu for me already, and with one tap on the desired game icon I'm into it with great speed; I can even then turn on my TV, switch inputs, adjust volume etc while the game comes up, all on the one tablet. Then I can switch between Miiverse and the web browser from my game with almost zero delay.

Yet for some reason, the Wii U's OS is being measured by the time it takes to use the Settings app that most wil only enter a single time, upon initial purchase.

Alright, I timed my PS3 and Vita on various functions. Someone with a Wii U can compare.

Youtube in the web browser doesn't seem to work with any HD functionality. It's hardly ideal. Plus with the Youtube redesign it works REALLY, REALLY bad in the Wii U browser (try scrolling your subscriptions, ugh), this can hardly be blamed on Nintendo but it's worth stating.

Once a video loads the settings icon will appear in the youtube window in the browser, it does support HD.

I'm game
Turning on system: 20 secs
second time: 21.6

boot mario u, from pressing icon to the walking blue yoshi
18 secs
second time: 18.1

pressing home button, menu showing up was instantanous.
load browser: 5 secs, 2nd time 5.3
load mii verse: 18 seconds,
2nd time 14.5 seconds
load eshop: "currently undergoing maintenance" lol but it took 12 seconds to get to that.
second time: same down msg but took 10.8 seconds this time
load friendlist: 5 seconds
2nd time: 6.3 seconds
back to wii u menu: 21 seconds
second time 22.5 seconds (fwiw you have to comfirm you want to go back to main menu)

You tube: 40 seconds, it also needed an update which kinda threw off my timing. Still, took longer than it should.
probably should gave done it 3 times each, forgot to try youtube. will edit my post when i do.

No, that is merely having expectations. Nothing wrong with that.
Then it's a silly and dare i say stupid expectation( i'm talking about the games library not the quality of the ports here). How the hell can you expect a system that just launched to even come close to the library of systems that are 7 years old? It's freaking crazy.

I purposefully used AC3 and Trine 2 so you would be able to compare the same games on Wii U =P

And I mean a full quit, not just pressing the PS button so the OS appears.

Pretty much what I was talking about. The libraries can't be compared at this point in time. Nintendo should have been better about the virtual console though. The VC is minor to me so I can wait on that.

Damn.

Remember when Nintendo stubbornly stuck with cartridges for n64 because they hate load times?

What happened.
What did happen? I get annoyed at the 5 second blank white screen loading in Mario Kart 3DS. These loading times on the Wii U are just ridiculous. Nintendo has let a LOT slip over the past few years.

i gotcha, sadly i dont have those games.

And i did full quit, pressed home button, then pressed "close software". Unless you meant something else?

All this:
load browser: 5 secs, 2nd time 5.3
load mii verse: 18 seconds,
2nd time 14.5 seconds
load eshop: "currently undergoing maintenance" lol but it took 12 seconds to get to that.

back to wii u menu: 21 seconds

was done after pressing the home menu once. "back to wii u menu" was me quitting/closing the software

I don't get the Bayonetta reference, maybe because I don't speak Japanese.

WiiU OS: yeah, it's slow. Way too slow performing simple tasks that shouldn't have any load times whatsoever. Coming from a PC, it's jarring. It's noticeable enough to bother non-gamers as well, I got asked about the load times from a person I didn't know knew what load times were.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
The load times are unacceptable for a system that we know is reserving 1GB of RAM for the OS.

I'll be honest, it doesn't FEEL slow, but there are times where you can scratch your head with some menu access. Somethings are snappy and some things are not.

I'll say one thing, the browser on the Wii-U is incredible. Completely understated just how awesome it is. It easily rivals an iPad.

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.
The" OS is teh slow, smh" talk is mostly overblown, in my opinion, but I do think Nintendo ought to add a feature to "tag" the disc-game or one of the digital games to immediately bootup when the system is turned on. That would save a bunch of seconds and be very convenient for those games you are grinding your way through. Very doable, but Nintendo probably wants to force people to see the Wara Wara plaza on a daily basis.

I agree and have not used my Ipad to surf from the family room since getting Wii U.

Oh my word...

If I don't wash this dude from my memory banks, I'll think of him when actually playing Bayonetta. This is a problem.

Why the fuck is that man dressed up as a woman? Wait it's Japan right? Never mind carry on.

Why do people have to be so mean? :(

Also, awesome Japanese glasses are awesome. I swear, Japan has so much more style and design when it comes to eyewear than we do. Walk into any Japanese store that sells glasses, and that's instantly evident.

Also also, slow Wii U interface is slow. It really is kind of ridiculous.

So I made a video to show the progress of changing you system language. The whole ordeal takes more than 3 minutes!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwVsBCKXg9k&feature=plcp&hd=1

Christ, that's so bad. That reminds me of how you have to sync trophies on PS3 sometimes when you want to look at it, and the shit takes forever. So I just stopped syncing my trophies or even bothering to look at them (which is just as well, since I have no interest in trophies or achievements).

This is ludicrous. No way it takes 30 seconds or less.

Yeah especially if you're adding in the little Xbox 360 logo boot, it's going to be more like 45 secs to a minute.

Still, having gone through Wii U OS, it so frequently runs slow that it makes what I thought previously was a silly slow interface like the Xbox 360 OS look like it's Usain Bolt by comparison, it's really no contest. Nintendo just has some really bizarre priorities when it came to the Wii U OS design. Stuff as much cuteness and inane features into Miiverse - cute rhyming when you die yaaay (-_-) - but just pegged the football into the ground where it matters as far as I'm concerned. And with so much more memory dedicated to the OS, it's really just mind boggling.

I do expect it'll be fixed within 6 months to a year, though. The obviousness of the frustrating slowness is too much for even Nintendo not to realize.

Wii U OS definitely needs to be speedier. The time it takes to pop into and out of stuff like play logs and settings is ridiculous.

But, slow as it may be, the language select taking a long time seems like a nitpick. How many people would actually be affected by that? And still, wouldn't that be a one time thing in most cases?

The Wii U loads off of internal flash memory, doesn't it? What the hell is it loading that takes 24 seconds? The entire OS over and over again?

The answer is simple: Whenever a player goes through this, a message is sent to Nintendo to confirm you can proceed! The times may vary because Nintendo staff overseeing this may be busy picking their noses, playing their 3DS, reading manga, or are out to lunch.

This.

It's even more frustrating when the load time differs each time I boot up NSMBU. Sometimes it's 10 seconds and other times it takes 30 seconds. Not sure why it's like this. The only game I haven't had load time issues with is Nano Assault.

...Yeah, something must be wrong with your 360 if it's taking close to a minute just to get to the dashboard.
I remember I had this issue with the beta for the current dashboard. After backing up stuff and formatting (which was a pain in the ass), my system was much quicker.

Can't say i agree with people complaining.

I apreciate the smart way Nintendo incorporated load times into the Wii U experience, it gives me time to talk to my wife while loading and feed some food to the kids.

By the way, has the mainstream press yet to ask Nintendo about this issue?
