This game keeps delivering in the story department. Mount whatever had lots of interesting moments, but I felt bad for Yukki. After the last revelations I felt she was getting pushed aside of the rest of the group and the last drop in the bucket came when
she gives her Persona powers to Jun? I'm sure Philemon has enough power to give Jun another persona for free. I'm still angry, grrrrrrr.

In the last boss battle Tetraja was really useful: After I saw Eikichi killed by a Hamaon I understood immediately that I was going to need it in the next few boss battles and started to spam it.

The game has given me the tier 3 personas of Tatsuya, Lisa, Eikichi and Maya and it seems that they cost 50 SP! to summon. I understand now even more why changing personas doesn't waste a whole turn in this game.

EDIT: The existence of the Persona spoiler thread is really cruel for me. I still need to finish Persona 2!

I expect you'll be frothing for EP by the time you're done.

Yeah, I don't know why I haven't played a single Persona game until this year!!!

It seems that I'll have to play the original version of EP, so I'll have to put up with certain "English" names for returning characters from Revelations: Persona.

You'll be fine. EP has an amazing localization.

I'm starting to feel bad for neglecting the fusion spells, maybe I should try to build some Persona combinations to do some. Anyways, the Tarukaja + physical skills combo was really lethal in the last boss battle. <3 how the buffs remain for more than three turns.

Always interests me how they switch up the buffing rules from game to game, I'm still not even really sure if they stack in SMT as I play through it. All the bosses so far have died too quickly for me to really get a handle on it.

Seems like there's quite a commotion going on in that Persona spoiler thread if that ballooning post count means anything. Too bad I didn't get the opportunity this year to beat Eternal Punishment so I could dive in and see for myself! /resentful whining

I'll console myself by assuming it's just another pitched battle between Old Persona and New Persona people heh.

I don't think it's progressed to that point just yet, but I did just skim the thread.

At any rate, I would love to see a fan translation of EP PSP since Atlus can't/won't localize it. I do have the PS1 original that I picked up during a reprint several years ago, so it's not like I can't play it, but I'd still like to play the PSP version.

Finished the Aquarius temple and it obviously didn't have a shadow character because it was Jun's element. I think that Queen Aquarius was
Jun's mother
, I hope I'm correct.

I wonder what embarrasing things will say Tatsuya's shadow, I can't imagine him doing things that he'd regret.

Make sure to remember the Persona 1 characters have their Revelations Persona names instead of their Shin Megami Tenesi Persona names

Heropon

And now I've conquered the Scorpio temple and its resident shadow, I hope the bosses keep being this easy. Another thing, I hate all those SP draining traps!!!

Just completed the Mt. Iwato segment of the game and I must say that I love some shocking revelations from time to time. I wonder if they wanted the player to know (or imagine) what really happened before the characters remember it.
It has reminded me about the FF8 orphanage scene but well executed. A thrauma is a much better reason for the amnesia/selective memory than GFs.

Ms. Ideal seems to be more sane right now and helpful. About the invasion:
King Leo/Tatsuya Sudou has spreaded the Nazi rumors, but it seems that Joker/the masked circle now want to defend the city from them. Why is Jun starting to act like a good person right now? I thought the masked circle wanted to fulfill the oracle of Maia.

It also works much better because
the common past doesn't feel like a silly plot device, but it actually enhances the characters. It also helps that P2 cast is very well developed and each character can stand on his own.

About the Invasion iirc
A lot of people started to spread the rumor that the Joker was an angel and their savior, hence why you see a less evil masquerade in the second half (compared to the Nazi, anyway). (in the original you could even spread a rumor about the Joker really being an Angel, and his fight would have played differently) Also, there is another plot point, but i'd rather not discuss it, since i don't remember how much it's explained at that point.

Thanks for the explanations guys!

Taurus temple completed! This was the least annoying temple of the three I've done (stupid holes and traps!!!) but the shadow dared calling bitch my Lisa. The boss was really easy even if it used lots of status inducing skills. <3 buffs, are there multitarget versions in this game?

I feel like I'm in the last segments of the game. Without spoiling me, how much remains?

Like once you finish the temples you head to the final dungeon.

Last temple completed and the boss was another weakling. At least these bosses aren't damage sponges like the first ones. Before going to the last dungeon I've created some Personas which seem to be much more economical than the supposed ultimate Personas. Eikichi even has a Persona with physical attacks! I hope there are Velvet Rooms in Xibalba because I haven't been able to get Jun's Chronos thanks to a lack of level.

Heropon

Member
I thought this game was being easy but in Xibalba everyone and their mother know multitarget instant kill spells and my stupid characters fall like flies. I'm getting really angry. And then there's even a skill that can kill AND berserk, %&/*¿!.

EDIT: I can't beat the Bolontiku. They use the attack that kills and berserks and Tetraja is useless because it isn't dark/light aligned. That was a really cheap tactic to ensure I get stuck. Maybe I should grind, but the enemies don't give much experience (I'm level 53).

Never had a problem with them. Does your Tatsuya have a Maragidyne / Ultimate Apollo? Should turn them to dust.

And what do you think about her now? :p

Tatsuya has Maragidyne but my problem isn't in the offensive deparment as I can do about 1000 points of damage in one turn, but THAT attack. Having three dead characters in the second turn and the rest berserked/paralyzed isn't the most funny experience in the world. I suspose that my strategy in tomorrow's try will be to pray...

About she, this game has confirmed my suspicions: Completely insane.

Great news, I defeated the aliens in my third try thanks to the use of lot of revival items and because Maya (Artemis) reflected THE damned skill and their normal attacks.

I haven't tried to finish the game yet because I thought that it was a good idea to get all the ultimate personas to MAX rank. Remember when I said that I neglected fusion skills? I should have started using them earlier: Hades increasing its rank twice in one battle really opened my eyes. Then I tried to max rank Chronos but I got lots of stats increments instead (better in the long run :D). Seeing that fusion spells were great, I investigated some useful ones and I discovered the existance of the ma- buffs and how easy it was to cast them (buff + healing spell that Chronos has). I'm going to grind some more stats increases and then I'm going to destroy the final boss!!!

Don't go in blind, final boss is no joke. It's still easier than the original though. My god was it a nightmare.

And yep, fusions break P2, both of them.

And game finished, the last boss was pretty much a joke for me. The only special thing I did was using the MDEF x1.5 spell at the start of the battle and he couldn't even scratch me except for one attack that did about 300 points of damage.

About the end...
I don't understand how erasing the protagonists summer friendship had so good results, is it because Jun didn't have to lie about his father? And now I need to play Eternal Punishment to know how Maya is going to stop that filthy cheater. About the end itself... The oracle of Maia was fulfilled because humanity wished so? I'm starting to feel that all the Persona games after this one are: God feels that people want their own destruction, he/she has to grant it!

One more thing:
Fuck you, Ms. Ideal. You couldn't even say anything after killing my heroine! Crazy b*****.

The final boss in the original PS1 version was said to be one of, if not the hardest boss in the entire series. A shame they nerfed the difficulty so much over the already mostly easy original

Been lurking around GAF for a long while now, figured I might participate a bit. This thread is pretty entertaining, hope it keeps up.

Since Persona 2 is the current topic, I thought I'd share this as most probably have not seen it, it's an interesting analysis of P2's true villain (if you have not played at least Innocent Sin, there are spoilers so beware)

Regarding the ending, I suggest you check the link I just posted, it may help you get a better insight of the story and the ending.

Also, you may want to check this site, it has pretty much all the info regarding Persona 2's characters, which will help you understand better the great cast both games possess

Oh yeah, might as well post this along. Have you guys visited the Megaten Wiki? Every now and then I have a good laugh at the demon portraits and quotes on the home page, this one I saw today (click to enlarge)

EP's is way worse, only difference is IS is a very easy game, so the boss catches everyone off guard.

There's an implication that the new world is sort of an idealized one - Miyabi is skinny and Eikichi is his same old self, Jun's parents are both alive and still together, Anna's still in school, etc.

Man, finally got to the first tough boss battle in the game thanks to low level demons, but after beating the phantasm I got a message that my inventory was full and I couldn't claim some kind of axe that's apparently supposed to go to the Chaos Hero. Is SMT1 really dickish enough to make me lose a reward weapon forever because I didn't realize my inventory was full before the battle started?

Already read this, but yeah, great piece.

It's sad that
Nyarlathotep
doesn't seem to get much love, you hardly see him mentioned in GAF "Best Villain"(etc) threads. :/

It's quite simple if you think about it: Everything started because they meet, Jun became the Joker because of his obsession with Maya, etc. By removing those days, the following events can't happen.

You're imagining things, maybe we should call the psychiatrists. Why does she dress like a spy anyways? I feel like spreading some rumors about her. Well, at least in this portrait she looks nicer.

About other characters, Ms. Smith and Harding now have the same names as in the alternate timeline where Masao Inaba is black. For now it isn't very confusing.

Mmm... I don't know why is ironic that Helios is a cat. Does he have a thrauma related to cats? Or is it because of Katsuya?
Don't kill me.
In the same room I find Jun's father and it seems that Ms. Ideal's craziness has transfered to him. Last Battalion, what the heck is that?

Pretty interesting that the first boss battle is in the same place than in IS. People is serious when say that this game is more difficult than IS, I really was on the brink of death and the enemies could have ganged on one character and defeat me easily. I don't know what to think about this Joker, but his persona looks like a black IS Joker so he doesn't look like a common prankster like his outfit could tell otherwise (he has bag in the head, what kind of criminal wears that???). A shame that Kat wasn't awake to see his brother's whereabouts trying to become rumormonger number 5.

I can't recall why JOKER was after Anna. But I know in EP, she's the less important one, Noriko takes the spotlight.
(It's a miracle Kashihara's even alive in EP, given IS' events.)

Also, yeah, EP takes the gloves off right away. And you ain't seen nothing yet.

I may be wrong but from what I remember, someone in the Police Dept hinted that Katsuya dislikes cats, so that's probably the reason he finds it ironic.

I like seeing familiar games in my "sequels". I forgot about Yukino, but if the developers don't care about her I don't think I should do it for themselves.

I hope I don't have to insert 100 times money again, it was a nightmare doing that once in IS. Baofu looks really strange with those earrings but he wants to reach out to the truth, so he must be actually nice. Like Baofu, I was really surprised about how little time the rumors take to become reality.

ZnhbS.png

I can buy cards in this game??? I'm interested, but not that much for that priza. Call me when you start selling buff spell cards.

Baofu isn't that nice, because he likes spying these squirrel-looking demons. What kind of embarrasing conversation did that recording have? Adultery? Admiting tax evasion? Influence peddling? That squirrel also tried to marry Ulala and take her money... What a naughty, naughty squirrel. Katsuya likes playing with the fauna to improve his interrogation skills, the thing he doesn't know is that birds watch TV shows too.

*GASP* The Last Battalion??? The In Lak' Ech is going to become reality!!! Grab your asses and run!

Currently: In the sanitorium grinding for some levels, ranks and free cards to upgrade personas.

Eek, all these Eternal Punishment posts mean I need to abandon this thread for a while (or maybe just temporarily place certain people on ignore haha).

Anyways, I just wanna say that going through SMT1 I really understand now what people have been saying about how SMT dungeons have their own special unique thing going on compared to other games. There's something about the dungeon design I can't really describe that seems very thoughtful. Like this dungeon I just beat:

Lv2Zd.png

I just like the recursive corridors and doorways, how hallways seems to wrap around themselves in carefully considered ways. Growing up I always thought that I hated first person dungeons, with Revelations: Persona being the only game with em I had ever managed to enjoy. Strange Journey got me over the fear hump though, and I think it should be smooth sailing from here on out.

In any case, I'm back in Tokyo now, cool post apocalypse music and all. Bosses got me brand new weapons for everyone and a shitload of cash, I hope there's a store nearby so I can get to spending.

Anyone out there played Soul Hackers?
On Naomi's vision quest, Amd I have to choose to fight Tiamat or Apus. The wiki site I found says that is I beat Tiamat the last boss will be weaker to physical damage and I I beat Apus, it'll be weak to magic. Which is easier?

The Apsu-version pretty much only uses physical attacks, so you can have a party of Reflect: Physical demons and let it do most of the work for you, so I'd recommend that.

I can vouch for the magic version having been a pain. Main did mad damage to him, though.
