if radar was added to slayer pro, renamed to team or classic slayer, moved to the top of the list, then a lot more people would play it.

I would so anyway. like mentioned it also could be that random unpredictable crap is what the crowd that halo 4 attracted prefers.
Oh i don't doubt this at all. I can't can't count the number of times I've listened to random players in the pre-game lobby discussing how much they like the new additions to halo 4. It always makes me want to vomit just a bit, but it also reminds me that there are a lot, no a ton of people that love the new stuff.

I wouldn't mind a playlist of mixed game modes (slayer and objective) that excluded PV and Invis. In fact, I'm highly interested in how popular it might be. invis and pv take out most of the legitimacy of combat encounters. I have no confidence in what I'm doing, knowing that most 1v1 outcomes are depending more on who camped harder with invis or PV. Like where is the competitive value in that?

So that guy who got banned last night said I threw him under the bus? Dude made a personal attack and I wasn't going to get dragged down with him. It was funny to see hum say he didn't call her a hooker. P funny.

So you say popular = quality ?

If Infinity Slayer isn't the most played because the most think it is the best, it is just the easiest for casuals to get their power weapons
Whoa, so you're saying that the gamestyle in Slayer Pro is of a higher QUALITY than the gamestyle in other lists? How are you making this determination?

What makes Slayer Pro better than, say, CTF? Or Oddball?

Oh, you mean you were only comparing it to Slayer gametypes? And you don't like ordnance? So what makes it better than, say, SWAT?

You can LIKE it the best - but that doesn't MAKE it best.

If it were really the best playlist, it would have a population of more than 3 digits.

As others have pointed out, SWAT's the last item on the list, and often has the third- or fourth-highest population of ALL lists.

Slayer Pro is minimally played because it appeals to a pretty narrow swath of the Halo community. (Unfortunately for that swath, it's the ONLY thing that appeals to them... but clearly they're not numerous enough for 343 to worry about.)
It's an undeniable fact that most people playing halo 4 like all the new CoD-like additions. But I'd like to think that if Halo 4 had never added all the AA's and perks, a lot of the current halo 4 population would still be playing though regardless. And then you might have an influx of older halo fans that were drawn back to halo and less people walking away from the game.

I didn't say anything about it, you said if it was the best it would be more populated.

I didn't see how the "quality" of a playlist is in order to its population.

me: can't wait to hear about playlist updates and planned balance tweaks and bug fixes
343: welcome to the bulletin! first lets talk about the infinity challenge!
me: I'll never win that so I don't really care. what's next?
343: here's more about the car you can win!
me: but what about playlist updates and planned balance tweaks and bug fixes
343: we heard you want to know more about upcoming changes to Halo 4!
me: totally, let's hear it
343: here's a fluff interview with some guy!
me: ok but what about updates
343: we're off for a month talk to you in 2013!
me: i hate you

We need FFA Regicide out and ActionSack in
The only reason I go into FFA Regicide is to work on getting AR kills for the UNSC Weapon Master Commendation. The playlist basically gives the best player a handicap by that person almost always being the King. I was doubling the kill counts of other players and still only winning by 5-15 points. I think it's a good candidate to be replaced by another playlist, personally.

EDIT: Speaking of the UNSC Weapon Master commendation, I played a game where one of the opposing team's players already had the Breach Player Stance and he was only like SR-62. No way that's possible. I reported him for tampering.

Hey 343! Borderlands 2 just updated, and their update page has valuable information about every patch so far. A page like this would be perfect for Halo 4. It's simply a blog post that is being updated, and it's on an easy to find page through their support.
How is Borderlands 2? Never played the first one, but I've heard good things about the game.

And update log like that would do wonders for 343 right now. I can't help but feel a little irritated by the sugar-coated updates that are full of fluff and little substance about the changes that need to be made to the game. Out of yesterday's long article, we get 165 words about the changes to matchmaking and nearly nine times that much detailing one of the softest developer interviews I've ever read.

C'mon 343, step up your game. Please.

edit: Ghaleon, I try to diffuse the hateparade as much as I can. :)

Halo 4 in 3rd place. Calling it

I never understood why it takes so long to "crunch the numbers." Is he adding them up for every game, on a daily basis, by hand? I would think MS has a way to click a menu and see "unique users per title" .... no?

And agree - Halo 4 in 3rd place.

I enjoyed the first one immensely. There was just something that grabbed my attention the first time I played it and I had the game 100% two weeks later. I've enjoyed the second game, but I haven't had the time like I did with the first one. There was one bug in BL2 where your proficiency progress (Badass points as they call them) got reset. And I was working on an accuracy progression when I was hit by the bug. In today's update, they finally fixed it. AFAIK it took up until about 2 or 3 weeks ago for modders to figure out what the bug was, so it's not like Gearbox wasn't looking at it either.

As for the Halo 4 updates, it would be nice to have a section tagging what each update does. Example being if I want to search for all balance fixes, I could just hit the balance tag. There's a fairly clear distinction as to what is a gameplay fix, balance fix, and a matchmaking update.

Exactly how I felt.

343 PR is a just terrible. I don't know if they just don't get it, or simply don't care. I really hope it's the first.

I have an advertising degree and work in IT. And I could do a better job than that. It's abysmal.

For those of us who are used to hearing from Bungie on these types of things, you have to understand there's no comparison. The quality of writing in their community-facing output is unmatched in the industry. They don't bullshit their fans, at least the vast majority of the time.

You can tell how much closer MS holds 343.

I also follow Blizzard games and the comparison to 343 is even wider than it is when looking back at Bungie. They have daily communication with their fans and daily hotfixes, it's wonderful.

To be fair, console only devs don't even began to compare to PC devs with community involvement.

While I did mean it in a sense of openness and frequency, I'm also talking about a distinct sense of personality and general quality of writing. It's part of what makes Bungie so attractive to me. All of which 343 currently lacks. 343 outputs great video content but the wordwordwords part of waypoint is so bleh.

343 just sounds like it funnels the words of MS straight through to the internets. It just doesn't feel like it picks up well with readers.

Though I don't follow Blizzard so they may just as well have all of that.

The MLG playlist has always been the best playlist in any Halo game and practically the only one somewhat competently managed (for as long as they do lol), stop yer crying. If there'd be a 343 or community driven playlist you'd just end up playing 2-flag CTF on Complex with a 45 second rest time or something.

The developers still haven't figured out what makes the MLG playlists so much better. *cough* map-specific gametypes *cough*

Really Cyren? The absolute worst possible fashion? You're blowing this out of proportion. They've said they have other patches coming soon. The game is pretty damn buggy and there's no doubt that was top priority, which makes sense. Let's wait and see some before we say it couldn't be worse.
That's the thing. We don't really have time to "wait and see". Have you seen the population numbers? This game needs help and it needs to be asap. We don't want Halo: Reach all over again.

Jess does a great job at finding her own style of writing, the issue is that a lot of the bulletins come from PR. The whole tourney thing reads like a press release every week, and those kind of segments make up the whole of the bulletin a lot. With Bungie, Urk always did his big solid chunk of writing and then put any advertisements or marketing for events at the very end, it made his updates seem more personal.

If I had a suggestion for 343 it would be to give Jess all the information, have her write (in her own words) the bulletin, then keep any extra stuff at the end. I'll admit, seeing a giant Ford truck in the top of the Bulletin is not something I enjoyed, even though I like the concept of the tournament.

The key in engaging with your community is to develop a style and rapport with them, joke around a bit, but ultimately give them what they need to hear but do so in a way that makes them feel like you are a good buddy. Going from buddy speak to PR speak and back again makes the articles feel robotic and disjointed. Jessica is an amazing person and great writer, I just think the bulletins need to be arranged better.

100% agree.

She seems way too restricted. I wasn't at all trying to blame her for any of it. I'm just so used to reading updates or headlines that sound like they were written by humans. It's too disjointed and inconsistent because it doesn't all come from one voice.

Where are you guys getting that she's a great writer? I hope not from her Twitter account.

I've only been reading Waypoint since the launch of Halo 4 but I have seen nothing close to the quality that a Halo developer deserves.

Well I feel like she at least deserves a chance to handle all of the writing herself, which clearly isn't happening.

You go over to Bungie and you can instantly tell that DeeJ has a complete handle on what he's doing. Same of Urk prior.

Let's not kid ourselves: if Slayer Pro was the first item on the playlist browser, it could have a bigger population than Infinity Slayer.

I doubt it, but that's because Halo has driven away all the players who want that experience. It's become a self-fufilling prophecy for them. They create a game with instant respawns, jacked global Ordnance, easy aiming and slow movement, and then when all the competitive players leave they say, "See, no one wants to play Slayer Pro! Big Team Battle is definitive Halo."

When you design a game around Infinity Slayer and Big Team Battle, is it any wonder when that's the only players you have left after a while?

Just got the news, kinda pissed they're removing slayer pro but im stoked that it might be coming back with better settings

Static drops plssss

Removing it to make it better is a terrible reason. You can leave it there until the new version is ready and just update the playlist then. Is taking it out necessary in order to make it better?

Ok, then in the effort of side-stepping any offense, I'll try and phrase my next question as politely as possible:

Has anybody at 343 Industries ever taken a basic physics course, or indeed, ever heard of the term 'physics'?

Say I am running north. If I am shot from the west, the impact/momentum of those bullets would not significantly slow my momentum running North, putting aside damage to bodily function which we accept the shields in Halo prevent until broken.

Except in Halo 4, where magically, where the force of bullets impacting on a mass from one direction slows their speed of travel in a completely different direction.

Why in the ever loving fuck was this allowed to exist?

Halo has never been realistic.

I would imagine that many members of 343 would have a very strong understanding of physics to put together a 3d game. Going back to the above they probably realise that realistic physics would be less fun than unrealistic physics

Sprint slow down is a mechanic which stops double beatdowns and other general annoying behaviour.

Why in the ever loving fuck would you not want it to exist?

What is a ever loving fuck anyway?

I was pretty late with this - net didn't update on my phone till after I posted it - but all the same I just want to say I support 343 in adding stopping power

That said I don't think sprint should be in the game at all

Frees up the slot/server for something else?

But yes, I do agree that's not a great move.

The thing that doesn't make sense is that its not doing much harm staying up.

Has a super low population. So 500 people get redistributed among the other playlists... not exactly a significant number.
