Nintendo Downloads - December 2012

Are there any save points in the Adventure Time demo? Died on the Grass Ogre battle and can't say I have much desire to start over from the beginning.

Ninja Gaiden, Lost Levels, and Wario Land 2.

It feels weird when NoA actually delivers.

Also, I've never played NG. Should I get it?

The only copy of Ninja Gaiden NES I "own" is the one playable on Ninja Gaiden for Xbox, heh. My Xbox has long since been shoved into a cabinet, so I should probably get it again for more convenient access.

Nice selection of demos this week!

Hey D4, would it kill you to release a game that isn't another fighter????? Nine bucks for the millionth Fatal Fury installment, no. Where's Pulstar, Blazing Star and Twinkle Star Sprites?

WAT

Wario Land 2 is only $4?

WAT

EscapeVectr is this Thursday??

WAT

What rock have I been living under???

Damn. A pretty huge update this week, possibly the largest. And it looks like that the 3DS eShop will continue to be awesome for the next couple weeks.

I hope WL2 is $4 since I only have $6 left and wanna buy it day 1.

I realized that my shoulder buttons have completely died and don't respond at all. R almost always fails and L works only sporadically.

Do you guys have any suggestions? Is there a conclusive way of fixing this?

I have this EXACT same problem but on my DSi. I thought it might be a defect in the design but if the 3DS can do it too then maybe there are environmental factors. My launch day 3DS's shoulder buttons still work fine, though. I've never considered sending it in to be fixed because 1) I rarely use the DSi any more, and 2) When I do, I rarely need shoulder buttons. However, if there is a home remedy for your problem I'll try it on my DSi as well. I'll try blowing them out, I have a can of compressed air.

You could've gotten the limited edition though.

I had it pre-ordered on Amazon, actually. But like other limited/collector's editions of games I know I'd set all the stuff aside and never mess with it. Plus, I'm avoiding all physical games in favor of digital for now on.

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.
I don't particularly know why I had so much fun with the Adventure Time demo, but I did. The gameplay seems pretty simple, but the game is very charming and controls really well. I caught myself humming the music and laughing at some of the jokes before it was said and done.

I have had zero previous experience with this IP/show, but I'm seriously considering picking it up now. How did it fair GAF impressions/reviews-wise?

Edit: oh wow, some people are completing the full retail game in three-five hours. Wish I had the money to spurge $30 on five hours, but as a college student that is a no go. Might try to rent it somewhere though, pretty promising demo I just played.

That's because it's apparently the original GameBoy black and white version (Color would be $5). It's most likely a mistake, but if it isn't and NoA really screws up that badly... I will flip several tables and potentially get banned in anger if that's possible lol

Downloading Rayman demo now. Woo! :D

Also, did we ever find out where Magic Obelisk went? I wanted that game :( :( :(
Nobody ever said but worst case scenario is the game wasn't going to sell enough to get them paid* so they decided to pull it to stop Nintendo getting more money. So its got more going for it than Donkey Kong Country but is filed under mystery all the same...

*-Under the WiiWare sales threshold thing which is thankfully not repeated.

Damn, it seemed like a genuinely interesting game too. I don't think you can find it anywhere else besides the WiiWare service so it's somewhat of a collector's item (or a Wii that has it).

Anyone play Harvest Moon yet? Does the art style look much better when the game is in motion with the 3D turned? So hard to tell from still images.

Thinking I'll download it tomorrow. Been wanting to play a good town, home building style game. Was gong to get Assassin's Creed 3 but really the main attraction for me with that game is the homestead feature they have and no way can I buy the game with only that being the biggest draw. Will wait until it and Batman drop in price sometime next year. I also haven't played Harvest Moon in long time as well. Last one I really played was A Wonderful Life on the GameCube. I really enjoyed that game and put a LOT of time into it. I think it was my most played GameCube game.

I think Kazerei was the one who was saying it's one of the best HMs in a long time. I'll be getting it soon too, just waiting for the right time. Still not sure whether I'll go retail or download though.

edit: there's some more impressions in this thread: http://neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=475885&page=6

It's a shame no one made an OT, this went quite under the radar, it seems

I've now gotten confirmation on the american release date; Gunman Clive will be out in the US eShop on January 3, for $1.99

Unchained Blades will also be released on the 3rd of January. Certainly took long enough.

That took Xseed way too long. I'll just wait a month or so and get EOIV, which is like exactly the same and probably way better. I'm guessing most of the people who make up this sort of game's incredibly small target audience will probably do the same. Should have localized boob ninjas instead!

54 days between Unchained Blades and EOIV, and only 32 days between Unchained Blades and Fire Emblem. That's not a big window to finish it in.

So, for everyone who's blamed Nintendo for the state of the Virtual Console, is now fair to blame the publishers for no longer wanting to take part? I can't imagine Nintendo decided to give D4/Neo Geo preferential treatment over companies like Capcom and Konami.

Now that there's no cost to rating digital games it will hopefully lead to more VC game soon!

Of course, Nintendo still has the minimum sales quota for Wii releases, and basically no VC game is going to hit the quota unless VC as a service gets updated to the Wii U... and there's still Nintendo's certification and digital manual costs... So I still blame Nintendo. They're the platform stewards. It's their job.

(I also think Capcom and Konami are terrible publishers, naturally)

Does the sales quota apply to VC? I had been under the impression it was for WiiWare alone. Although come to think of it, I don't believe I've ever heard either way for certain.

Nintendo handles VC releases for their own platforms (NES/SNES/N64) though iirc, they license the 3rd party games and all emulation, testing, manuals, etc, is done by Nintendo themselves. Same for Hudson with TG16/CD, D4 with NeoGeo/CD, Commodore with C64 and Sega with SMS/Genesis. 3rd parties can push to get their own titles out (as Sunsoft was for awhile) but ultimately if Nintendo's not interested in bothering then it won't happen (like what happened with Bionic Commando NES).

The only systems where 3rd parties handle everything themselves are MSX (which just D4 and Konami have bothered with) and Arcade (Sega, Namco, Capcom, Tecmo, Taito, Hamster, D4).

I doubt it. There's no sales threshold for Japan WiiWare from what I've been told, and basically all VC stuff comes from there and is more or less curated by a couple longstanding Japanese publishers. The sales threshold was a quality assurance mechanism designed for western indies that went hilariously wrong.

But why on earth couldn't they get rid of it?
