The War Z: shady, misleading and false advertising.

Yeah, those aware of it do baffle me.

I found this so hilarious:

Enjoy waiting 4 hours to play a game that's not even free-to-play!

When does Valve turned into corporation of evil? Refusing to publish great games to Steam, while picking unfinished and buggy products instead, isn't this kind of things I used to expect from them.

Valve's inaction over this is despicable but hey as long as the cash is rolling in, who gives a shit.

I would be willing to cut them some slack if the excuse is that they've been planning for this major sale that's coming in a day and a half as I'm sure that requires a lot of work, but the annoying thing is they're always silent about things. They never talk unless something gets so big they have to. If the sale is distracting them from this then come out and say it. Say something damn it.

It's this combined with the Greenlight situation that really bugs me. You let this steaming heap of shit through but need everything else to go through a popularity contest?

I'm actually more annoyed by Valve's lack of any apparent action than I am about Sergey "Big Rigs" Titov's attitude about the whole thing. They're the ones giving these people a market right now. There's at least enough shady nonsense afoot to temporarily halt sales and start investigating and issuing refunds to the people who "misread", who deserve their money back no matter what happens to War Z's future on Steam.

What do you think Valve really cares about more? A bunch of angry people who probably weren't going to buy the game anyway? Or the fact that it's the #1 selling game on steam right now and probably will remain so until the Winter sale?

Valve is running a business. They're not our best bro that's always looking out for us, they're trying to make money and The War Z is making them money. Mot to mention that Valve's customer service is a fucking joke, I have a ticket from six months ago that NEVER got a response.

Don't like it? Take your money elsewhere, free market style. I'm sure GreenManGaming, Amazon, GameFly, and GamersGate would enjoy the patronage. Hell, even Origin is getting it's shit sorted out at a quick rate.

Mayhaps the contract was contractualised prior to Greenlights Greenlighting?

But yeah Greenlight is a mess of baddness. Quality assurance or popularity doesnt matter when you let through some of the shit already on Steam. LIKE XCOM!!

It is a flat out crime in a lot of countries!

By allowing the sale of warz, valve are partaking in a crime.

I would be super salty if I was the Day Z guys though. I mean they are tarnishing the letter Z!

How many people bought this thinking it had something to do with the Day Z mod?

Salt like the salt mines of Saltzberg.

Brad Pitt and co. to sue WarZ in 3... 2... 1...

Jokes aside, the silence in DayZ camp is frustrating as this is the time to lure people in. Of course, if their game has similar shitty practices then I guess they can all fuck themselves in a fisting fight.

And people cry in Greenlight that an retro pixel looking pc game might get on the service and "crap up Steam"

Recently watched the Total Biscuit video and it really is a sad state of affairs that this is available in the state it is in.

What does that change? Valve doesn't care about us and will continue letting the game be sold because guess what, corporations lie everyday in these countries you speak of, and you think Valve wont get off easy if anyone bothers taking them to task? Think again. This will all blow over and will be just about forgotten in a weeks time. We've seen how internet boycotts and outrage end up, especially the ones involving video games. Shit, did Valve do anything to Bethesda when Brink was released and remained broken for weeks? Nope, because it made them money and those upset simply let it go. And how'd that Modern Warfare dedicated server fiasco end up? I think there's an image related to this floating around out there....

The reality is that in a few days, Papa Gaben will sell us games we'll never play at low prices, nobody will give two fucks about The War Z anymore, and Valve will continue having us locked to their service and their rules.

Cosigned. I'm switching to the service that doesn't do that, post haste.

Well Valve just sell the games, and they cant be responsible for crap developers do.

I think they should be more open and let more stuff on steam. I think this + greenlight is what my problem is. They set a bar, but let some people just slide on under it like some kind of limbo competition.

Quality assurance is stupid for a platform as big and open as steam should be imo. Buyer beware and all that stuff.

The reason that fucks get away with shit like this is because people don't kick up more of a stink!

By acting like you do, things will never change.

If they are selling a falsely advertised game on their services they very well are!

Please don't attempt to get fresh with me. You don't think people that disagree with Steam feel locked to the service because most of their games are there? I certainly do and I have serious issues with their abysmal customer support, buggy client, and the entire concept of Greenlight. Yet because I'm a stupid mark, I continue adding games to the service and buying from Valve because I value convenience over those things.

By acting like you do, things will never change.

I'm a realist and know how people work. I'm not going to change anything and most likely, neither are those outraged. I'd enjoy being wrong though!

They are providing the venue where the developer is pulling a scam against its customers, a scam that I might say also give them money in the process. How come they can be absolved of all responsibilities?

This seems like something their legal department might have to get involved in though and I can't imagine they are knee deep in pre-winter sale preparations. Perhaps delisting/refund procedures (that take time)are already in motion and the game will be removed soon but as you said, right now the silence is deafening.

This is hilarious and sad.

You could tell this game was going to be shit the second they started going into details about their servers when they initially touted it as an MMOish game.

Microsoft and Sony get a lot of crap for their digital distribution practices but it often saves them from incidents like these. Obviously there is a middle ground that could be struck though. At the very least, someone on Valves side should be playing the games and verifying the store claims.

I've been in the alpha for quite a while. I've only ever enjoyed my time when I got to play with a friend. And I only liked it because I knew that he loved the concept and doesn't have the rig to play DayZ which is a vastly better product. WarZ sucks, it has potential, but in it's current state( which I can't believe they released on Steam) it is pretty crappy. Bright side, it can only get better.

hahah this thread has been a gold mine.

Well the guy responsible for this game, Sergey Titov, is also responsible for the arguably worst PC game - Big Rig: Over The Road Racing.

I consider this to be the diamond of my gold mine excavation. This is so priceless.

he's a pioneer

that's like a nintendo ambassador in warz terms

Dude, I'm a Legend on those forums( literally, not because I post on there).

It is almost like wearing a dunce cap. Almost. I do hope that WarZ gets better.

It has to.

Right?

Are You serious Gez?

Beta complains

I'm deadly serious and I am shocked you used the 'Beta argument' to shut me down.

The game is a 1.0 full release the 'its a beta' excuse goes right out the window when its a full release.

Edit:
actually will edit OP later when on good PC.
