Minerva's den is better than BS2.

Anyone here read the bioshock novel? It's good.

I'm actually half way through it right now. I'm liking it. It really covers the building of Rapture and the events leading up to the first game. Sets up characters from both games though and gives you more background to them. I'd recommend it without a doubt.

Now that my DLC maps are done, I think I am through with 4. I haven't played in close to a week. Gonna try to convince my friends to play 3 with me

Yep.

I like how it gives depth to the minor characters who featured in the first and second game.

Yup. It really makes me like some of those characters and see them as more then just voices on a diary. I also like how it handles both Fontaine and Lamb. I really haven't been able to stop reading it. Sadly work makes it kind of hard to read it regularly. I do manage to get a chapter in a day on the ride in though. lol

Bioshock is one of the best games this gen, but not of all time. It falls apart in the last third of the game.

But that first two-thirds is amazing.

binary rifle, incineration cannon, boltshot are the worst weapons ever added to the halo sandbo. SAW is pretty bad as well.

flinch plus binary rifle is garbage.

To all people who don't think Bioshock is one of the greatest games of all time.

Would you kindly get out

lol. Man that phrase. That's probably why I like the first game a lot more then the second. Although I did like the second too. Bioshock though succeeded with me for the same reason Halo did. The world they created was a place that I just wanted to explore. That's the secret to creating a game that I'll love forever.

Hm.

First half of BioShock 1 > Minerva's Den > BioShock as a whole > BioShock 2

This would mirror my thoughts exactly.

It always brought a smile to my face, when some of the character were using the audio diaries in the book, and it correlated with the ones in the game.

How is the ending third of Bioshock bad?? Thats where you start figuring out the reality of the story! Its mindblowing.

Story - World - Pacing - Reward- Workmix - Gameplay - Visuals - Sound

The game literally knocks every aspect of gaming out of the park.

This suggested alternate ending seemed genius to me, but everything just kinda falls into cliché at the end. Fontaine becomes a super boss man that you have to FPS to death.

Yup the author did a great job of tying it into the games not only in story but just in the small details of what the characters did within those settings. I think they nailed them perfectly and I can 100 percent see those characters living in that environment. Really is improving my love of the games as I read more because I can see these locations and now I know why they are the way they are.

The last level and the boss especially was unnecessary.

What you did there, I see it. :p

Bioshock remains in my top 5 of this gen easily. Mirror's Edge is atop that list.

Mirrors Edge?!

I absolutely adore that game. Where's ME2 DICE? I want it now.

Now I'll give you that. The final boss encounter was the one low point of the game I think. I didn't mind the escort part. That's unusual too since I almost always hate escort missions. That final boss though could have been so much more interesting.

Oh yeah. The escort mission.

BioShock was a good game. One of the greatest games ever? Maybe the first half. The AI and feedback could've been better.

Edit: Also not good for replay value.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that it was awesome when you found out what was going on. But after you find it out, the game drags on for too long and nothing really happens until the end. In particular, that escort mission was so long and boring.

Although talking about Bioshock makes me want to play it again, it's even years since I last played it.

I just beat the first bioshock a couple of days ago. It was really good, but it was a fucking bitch to take out a big daddy when you had no money and no ammo on hard.

That's why you upgrade your wrench and keep at it because those vitachambers got your back bro.

Honestly I thin The War Z is taking that title right now. Just reading up on it now, wow.
lol it just got pulled on Steam, it was up for what, a day?

The biggest problem with Bioshock 2 is that Rapture is no longer a mystery. I knew exactly what Rapture was, how it had gotten that way, and what I was fighting.

Yeah, that was really rough too. It's kind of been a bad year for the game industry in the press.

As someone who just finished Bioshock this weekend, I can partake.

Great game. Not the greatest game though, because it was a little too repetitive for my taste.

Hugely enjoyed Bioshock 1, it's one of my "games of the generation".

Yes, the last third is poor and unnecessary, but it didn't dim the previous 2/3rds of the game.
I couldn't get into B2 and didn't enjoy Minerva's Den as much as everyone else did, but I realise I'm in the minority.

I found Minerva's twists very obvious.

Now if only we get to play it without getting delayed again.

I'm ok with a delay if it makes for a better game. Course there has to be a limit to the delays. Anything in the range of Duke Nukem forever is a tad too long of a delay for my taste.

Right now, I don't really expect Destiny to have PvP multiplayer, at least not like Halo. I expect it to have tons of cooperative stuff, but I'm not so sure it'll have competitive multiplayer.
Of course it will have PvP multiplayer. You think the innovators of the console FPS would ignore what sells on consoles and what they do best?

They'll probably work it into something subscription based if they can get away with it, maybe using their own servers can offering the first console vs console system. How wild would that be if they pulled off playstation vs Xbox users in the same game. That sounds ambitious enough for bungie to me

Mirrors Edge is on the list of fantastic games that desperately need a sequel.

Along with Shadowrun and Chromehounds. I mean shit, Dice is making Battlefield 4 already. I'd rather have ME2 and I LOVE battlefield.

They could do it for global data, like how Need for Speed does it, but I don't see it going to actual combat vs players on other systems.
Not sure it'd fly with the console gatekeepers.

Brofist accepted.

The combat and shooting sucked, but when you were at full sprint hitting every move perfect that game felt like nothing I've ever played. It was amazing.

Oh, and dat art.

Halo?

DICE are wizards, great environments/colors. Glad Mirrors Edge 2 is in production.

Mirror's Edge is probably the Beyond Good and Evil of this gen. While Ubisoft is willing to pump out infinite Assassin's Creeds and Prince of Persias, a sequel to BG&E is too much.

lol remember when people argued vehemently against me for pages on end when I suggested that the presence of color in Forge could lead to a user-created map having even a single visual landmark or a unique visual identity

I've cleared mirrors edge. Tbh I hated it. I didn't want to redo it.
It's not a parkour game. It's a 3d puzzle platformer for the most part.
Great visuals. Poor cutscenes.
The iOS game is better than the 360 game.
Would play a sequel tho.

If the iOS game is like the promotional Flash side scrolling platformer they released to hype the game, yeah, that was cool too. I could see what you mean by puzzle platformer, but the flow of movement in it is something rarely found in a game.

Until you come across a combat sequence.

BioShock AND Mirror's Edge loving in here?

I don't think I've ever loved this thread as much as I have till now. This is something I can get on.
