Well those are 2 differnt issues listed out of the 20+ multiplayer ones you might have missed.

That's fair.

It seems to be a lot of one worded quips about the 'atrocities' of the game without substantial talk of what to fix. Conversation seems to be geared on how 343 is managing/thinking or how the average gamer is thinking or playing. Something interesting on it's own but ultimately adding up to nothing for me.

Sounds like your first Halo

Been around for longer than you buddy. Been on HaloGAF since Halo 3.

Wow lots of hate...err criticism...

There are many 'bugs' with shipped titles from even the AAA folks. But I see.

Do you think these lists of things 'wrong' with Halo (like Campaign scoring and forge issues and repetitive Spops) deter the base multiplayer population? Because they don't really affect Multiplayer at all.

The DMR's power doesn't seem to really affect much in multiplayer to me - its' like the 1887 shotguns in MW2 - you adapt or die. Not quit the franchise.

There are bugs yes. But 343 has been fixing the bugs like the map exploits. No acknowledgement they even know about the bugged custom options or are working on it.

The non-MP stuff is just listed because you asked what was wrong with Halo 4, not its multiplayer. Campaign scoring/theater hurts the community because you lack being able to share content from campaign. Forge affects the community and multiplayer because you aren't able to share maps as easily and the forge controls took a hit. Repetetive SpOps hurts everyone who loved firefight.

DMR's power isn't on my list of things to fix. But I think its far reaching distance kills some BTB maps. And lol there's no way of adapting to 1887's. Adapt or die, what a shitty counter. Only way to adapt to some of these problems is to become the problem. Ie boltshot is OP, use the boltshot.

I'd rather have had CEA in the Halo 4 art style/graphics. The Forerunner interiors in 4 look so much better than CEA.

Late on this but really? I actually loved the designs in CEA a hell of a lot more then Halo 4's. They were way way too busy looking in Halo 4 I though. They really didn't make much sense I thought layout wise. It was like let's add a dip here and glass flooring here and just seemed like a jumbled mess to me.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but CoD has OP weapons, and has perks, and has all sorts of things wrong with it, but the gameplay is fun, and the rewards system is addicting (especially with game-modifying results).

Halo got almost everything right, but it was outshone by it's competition is all. It's a Mac in a PC world to me - beautiful, elegant and awesome, but overshadowed by ubiquity and the ability to game/do whatever you want.

The Campaign was close to perfect for me, and multiplayer is addictive and fun.

COD, imbalanced as it is, love it or hate it, has stayed true to its roots and formula over the last 5 years. The reason we've seen no population plummet from BO2 since launch is because they've listened to their community and delivered them the game they wanted and expected.

Halo 4 has seen it's population drop by 75% since launch because, frankly, they didn't listen to their community and deliver the game it wanted. They took a "developer knows best" approach to several design/balance decisions in the MP portion, and it's backfired on them to some extent.

It's not rocket science. A lot of people bought the game and went online with it. I'm talking about War Games here- not Campaign. We've all seen the numbers. They played it during the first week after launch, and in the time since then 3 out of 4 of them have stopped playing. I seriously doubt that the did so because they found the game to be addictive and fun. The casuals jumped ship. The community that's left is all there is to work with now. 343 needs to listen to them. I don't know what's so controversial about putting things in those terms.

Yep, we were just talking about the Halo3Gaf days and I remember you too!

Reach had one and population still declined. Unless a TU comes out before Christmas, it's going to be the same song and dance.
Reach had way more problems than just needing a TU. I think Halo 4 is the much better game.

But yeah I'm not concerned about Halo 4 population. It will still be easy to find games and MS is still going to release at least 2 more Halo games no matter what.

The Reach TU came far too late in the game AND it wasn't applied to the entire game. So you still had vanilla Reach settings in team slayer. This made it especially jarring to jump from playlist to playlist as the settings were seemingly different all over the place (vanilla, title update, anniversary, classic).

The Reach TU was essentially the Halo 4 beta.

Hopefully in 4 they have learned that a title update needs to be applied across all playlists universally. You know, like updating the entire title.

You guys also have to remember that a lot of kids are going to get COD Black Ops II for Christmas and the population may take another dive.

We wanted to give choice and shitloads of players LOVED Vanilla Reach. It was inelegant but Reach crept up from 9th place to (at one point) 3rd place after that. Halo 4 has plenty of issues right now, but it will be lovingly cared for and globally and continually (including weekly fixes on certain issues).

Plasma Pistols/Plasma Grenades in BTB Loadouts - remove from BTB, place on map like in previous halos

Random Global Ordnance - keep the 2 minutes ordnance system, just make the drops the same weapon in the same place.

DMR OP, ping from everywhere - This isn't gonna get fixed. imo just ban from BTB

Boltshot - Remove it imo, or at least make it so its charge shot isnt a one hit kill

Rock Paper Scissors design with the AAs' and Perks being in customized loadouts. - This is 343's Halo. I doubt it's gonna change. Only thing I ask for 5 is a classic playlist at launch and for the AA's to not be as OP as they are. Also, no ranking up/specializations for perks.

Have to grind to get some perks (specilazations) - Don't do this. Can't fix now though.

Jetpack and Camo in 2012 - Bungie/343 removed certain AA's out of certain playlists. Do the same. Don't make these come back in Halo 5. Make Camo come back as a powerup. Hell make a higher jump a power up too.

Fileshare not working (at least they acknowledge this) - They're fixing it

Custom options not working (no acknowledgment on this) - FIX THEM

Not nearly as much custom options as Halo 3 or Reach. - ADD IN MORE

Forge got gimped (but they added lighting!) - if possible, add in precision controls, if not, improve forge in Halo 5

No campaign theater - add if possible

DLC fiasco - Let's hope it never happens again.

Boltshot - remove/nerf

No Red X's on Dead Teammates - Add this back in. Seriously what the fuck were you thinking?

Boltshot - But actually, what were you thinking?

Scattershot is inconsistent. - not sure if its possible to fix. Perhaps tighter spread? Up the damage?

Perssonal Ordnance is also a random roll, so you could get nades, speedboost, and needler, other person gets damage boost, rocket, or sniper. - Would be neato if it was the same 3 options every roll you got. But whatever, its infinity slayer, shit might as well be fiesta

Boltshot - Fuck this gun

Boltshot -Was this even playtested

Instant respawn - Remove, put timers on respawns.

Boltshot- seriously what the fuck
Ok, a list of problems with the game is not enough for Major Williams. I'll edit it what should be fixed about them.

Probs won't get a response, but are the dead teammate red X's planning on being put back in/can they even be put back in/or is it just by design and we have to deal with it.

no1 curr about Halo 4 update Halo 3 pls

Yes. We still need Mr EazyB. I think although he was harsh his viewpoints were refreshing and hilarious at the same time. Kylej and juices do the same, but are a bit more dry. And he made funny pics. I miss old HaloGAF for sure. I remember when squidhands was a junior for crying out loud and Frankie posted as a Bungie employee.

I agree the patch came late in the game, and it was implemented poorly in Reach, but a TU needs to be released SOON in order for this "bad game that sucks" to be a bit better. Otherwise the population will give up on it and become jaded. They can only cash in so many times... right?

The only reason I played Reach after the fall of '11 (when I got Xbox Live) was because of the TU.

I don't know how I ever played Vanilla Reach.

Lots of people also loved vanilla Halo. Id est, being able to drop the flag, press X to pick up the oddball, arm a bomb, be knocked out of scope, and not sprint, among other things.

Why was the Halo: Reach Title Update philosophy dropped during the development of Halo 4?

That's damn right.

Starting matches evenly, weapons on map, static drops, symmetrical maps, power weapons being timed and fought over, skill ranks, fuk boltshot...etc

1. Damn glad to hear it.
2. Glad to hear anything, really.

Honest question - in your opinion what was the ratio of "players who LOVED Vanilla Reach" to "players who left Halo when it wasn't 'Halo*' anymore"?

*By Halo I mean an Arena Shooter

I think this is the first time I read that from one of you 343 guys about Halo 4 and I'm really happy you admit and aknowledge it.

And back on Master Williams, you just asked what is wrong for many of us, if you wanted a list with fixes and all that you should have asked or read the posts of Overdoziz and Kylej they made not so long ago.

And most of the stuff listed aren't bugs.

Don't you know that every map pack release has an super duper "30 Day, Buy and Play" program accompanied with it? I can confirm it. I CAN CONFIRM IT.

It was a legit question. Achievement hunters (their sole purpose) won't buy shit if they can get more cheesemints for free.

.

Wish more people could accept when things aren't perfect. I for one enjoy the game far more than hate it. Every game is going to have quirks and bugs, or exploits. Camping camo users that squat around maps is just shitty. Polish up a few things and it can be better. And I also have to say this is my favorite Halo mp. Deal with it.

If you want to know why I don't post as much any more - it's this level of discourse. And this sin't even a bad example. I post here as a member of the community. It's not actually a part of my job. Before you go off and say "YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO..." etc, of course me and any member of the studio are supposed to take care of the needs of the community, we do, and we take it seriously and will continue to do so nonstop, through long hours, holidays, etc.

But is it too much to ask for conversation to remain civil? I simply try to speak to people as I would in real life. That's all.

This isn't something unique to gaf, or Halo, it's a general trend in everything from movies, to music to politics, and since it's not in my area of responsibility, I am choosing to avoid responding to this tone. While simultaneously reacting to its content as a practical aspect of the job.

So no matter how salty the conversation, the topics are being addressed and taken seriously, but the tone of discourse has plummeted over the years. I think new folks are used to it, or entered into it when it was like this, but I am old and farty and I remember how excited and optimistic folks used to be about this hobby.

You mean you aren't our servant because we bought your game and you like to interact with us?

Whatever Frankie can talk about is great. But expecting him to comment on everything and stalk every argument about the game is just wrong. Appreciate the fact that most community interaction is fake or severely scripted and he goes out of his way to do what he can when it is possible.
