Anyone else finish it yet? Overall impressions? Story-wise, it pretty much ties with, maybe even surpasses, Yakuza 2 for me, which was my previous favorite. Gameplay-wise, it's definitely the best. So much stuff to do, with so much variety. Easily my game of the year.

Stuck on Kazuma's chapter at the moment. Got a few sidequests left on the map but nothing else, and not sure where to go next. Can anyone help?

yup just played the demo, they keep getting the game more and more refined amazing, loving the fighting even more now, with Y5 and Metal Gears coming soon its good time to be a gamer :D

Run around the city and you should encounter 3 groups of guys in red you need to fight. That's the bit most people get stuck at in his chapter.

a big RGG fan here, yay. But I don't remember small stuff in the previous game:p
Has Akiyama ever met Haruka? If I remember correctly, she didn't show up in the game in RGG4 at all other than Saejima's part?

btw, Akiyama actually wears the above GAGA watch in the game :D

Have you finished it? How bad is the Haruka bit? How many of the dance battles are mandatory?

Your concerns are ill-placed. Everyone will enjoy Haruka's bit. What you should actually be concerned about it is the first 3/4 of Saejima's chapter and how long it takes to trudge through that.

This does not assuage my fears.

Assume that, theoretically, I hate Haruka's part. How long is it, and how many mandatory dance battles are there?

If you only do the story-related stuff, it's probably one of the shorter segments in the game. Halfway through, Akiyama comes in, so you can switch between the two at their hideouts and story focus is given to Akiyama. I'd say there were probably about 15 mandatory rhythm segments, including dance battles, practice, and Princess League stuff. As a rhythm game fan, I totally loved it. Probably clocked around 12 hours on her section alone. The dance battle music was great.

So good! I wish Sega would expand the Haruka section (and Kiryu's taxt bit!) and give it a PSN release. Would be amazing on Vita. The actual schedule management aspect is, in my opinion, even better than standalone idol sims like Idolmaster.

...Princess League? :/

15 sounds really short. Almost too good to be true levels of short.

It's fine if you don't enjoy it, but honestly, try to go in with an open mind. The game is structured really well, where although the dancing is different, it's the same sort of thing as Of The End where you're in a familiar setting but doing something different than punching dudes. Going from Kiryu to Saejima to Haruka to Shun makes the game flow better and feel less 'samey'.

What's Princess League?

EDIT: Wait, does this mean Akiyama doesn't get his own chapter? No fighting as him either?

Princess League is this:

It's like competitive karaoke, based on how much of the crowd you sway to your side of the stage. It's pretty fun.

But yeah, only about 15 I think. You practice each of the three main songs in the studio once, have the three league performances, and a few street battles here and there. Not too bad, if that's all you're worried about.

And yeah, the second half of the chapters are 90% Akiyama, with lots of fighting. I think you only have the third performance left with Haruka.

Totally. I love how they feel like demos of fully featured games, rather than mini games. And that music.

finished it today, took me 115 hours!! The main story turned out be very good. And also, there are lots of funny and corny moments as usual. But I'm not sure it's as good as the second one. I'll get back RGG2, around cp.7 currently, later to see how it is.

Haruka section is better than I expected. It's a good change for a long game. The storywise, I like how it shows, it's not the typical I wanna be an idol but she has her reason to be an idol. But overall the section is a bit long with no main story progression until
Akiyama arrives
.

New character is pretty good. His section is possibly my most favorite, lol at 217 yen. He is the weakest but I like his fighting style, he has some cool heat moves in first person view and love the substory of the relationship with Takasugi.

There are two things I don't like. One is the role, a huge spoiler,
Majima got this time. I can't imagine someone like Paku shacho had a rommance with him
.

And the other is no
Hana chan apprerance
.

Question. In your game, who has more money in the final chapter? Akiyama's suggestion and Majima's reply made me chuckle.
Akiyama "Why don't we share our money and stuff. One of us is very poor." glancing at Shinada
Saejima "You are the richest. If you say so, I'm okey."

For me, Saejima is the richest and Akiyama is the poorest.

Haruka's stuff is really good. Like a simple but really accomplished rhythm-action game with a story to add context and meaning. Nothing like soundly beating a cocksure rival, which is exactly the kind of thing you could say about the combat.

So when can I expect this game be released in the states T_T

I personally don't think it's happening. Sega's money situation means it's only investing in sure things, and Yakuza's still a very niche title in the west. That's why I imported, even though I'm missing out on a lot of the story (I'd love a plot summary of the chapters I've played, but I've not managed to find one yet).

I hope we at least get a digital release next year in the US. Importing will be a last resort, but I'll make up my own crazy story if I have to!

Where would you rate it compared to Yakuza 3 and 4?

Longer? I thought it was only 15 or so mandatory things?

It doesn't mean much, but I sent a tweet to Koch Media (they publish SEGA retail games in Europe) about Yakuza 5 and they "favorited" it. If they release it here, I hope they also bring the 1&2 HD Collection.

I've given up hope on the HD collection. As dumb as it would be for them NOT to do it(the translation's already done), I don't see it happening.

Wish I could trade Dead Souls for a Kenzan localization and a Vita HD port of Black Panther 1 & 2

Is there some japanese wiki/walkthrough for this game? I am looking for translations of the upgrades (that you buy at level up with the yellow coins) and revelation locations/conditions.

This is the one I've started using:
http://kouryakutsushin.com/ryu5-wiki/

Its been dead useful to me so far due to the sheer amount of content included in the game!

I've only played up to just past the demo boss fight but I'm really liking the changes and new inclusions to the game. Taxi driving/racing is ace and has some really badass heat moves associated with it. I like that you can customise your darts now (its made darts even easier for me), river fishing seems fun enough and Virtua Fighter 2 seems harder than I remember! (though it is neat to have a fully playable version of it included in the game).
