Ragnarok Online II Open Beta and Information Thread

I jumped on with RO during the alpha. It only had Prontera and Morroc, and there was a super giant Baphomet in the cave by Morroc. Pretty much the only thing to do in alpha was gang up on Baphomet. But it was fun.

Me too, Aeana. Good times when 2-1 classes weren't even implemented yet. I had an Aco rocking out the Culverts. xD

download links added in the OP :)

You can also play on the Closed Beta now if you already have the client. Just put this password: welcome2ro2

You sure? I can't open my client... the updater just closes like halfway through.

I played in the "other" beta, game wasn't bad.

I have played RO until a year ago, but didn't feel good since Kafra shop, and it's peak was before advanced classes. It was the best mmo ever right in that moment, for me.

i looked at some videos of this one and it seemed like you cannot increase manually your stats as you level up.

that's a deal breaker for me, was one of the things that made RO unique to my eyes.
and i'm still not sure how the WoE will translate in 3D

Most addicting game I played next to Diablo II. My high school GPA nose dived because of this game...

Music was god like.

don't download using the updater, either download the installer via torrent or direct dl. im currently downloading now. :)

Sigh... I've downloaded the full thing via direct dl. You'll see what I mean when you're done. Just try launching it when you're done downloading the game. I have the game installed fine.

"The game servers are now CLOSED for fixing of game bugs and issues."

I'm guessing this is why?

Aye, that's exactly it... I'm sure of it. I had my friend do the same thing and he has the same issue as me so... yeah. Must be because we have to wait until either that's done or until the 27th.

I played the original RO II a back when it was in Beta (Alpha?) a few years ago. It had a little bit of a "me too" feeling of FFXI, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing but didn't quite have the same charm as the original RO did. Though like the first game, the soundtrack was pretty rad.

The original RO brings back a lot of memories, and I still keep up with quite a few friends from those times. The hours spent in Hidden Temple hunting Baphomet or just chilling north of Prontera. Those were the days...

It looks ... ragnarok, mixed with WoW

Played Ragnarok since the USA beta started .... and went all to the creation of the brazilian ragnarok.

And as a crazy player, I kinda miss the aparent lack of a Novice Class ..... my High level Novice was by FAR the most fun I ever had in a MMORPG ("play dead" was INSANELY overpower xD)

Trivia : Here is my high level novice trying to hit an emperium (if anyone knows a better swf uploader I apreciate) while 2 guilds battle each other

Original RO brings back a ton of memories, holy shiiiiiiiiiiiit

The music was divine, I used to play it often during summers of yore while mowing the lawn.

Oh, dear... I have the feeling that if I try this and my pc manages to run it fine (ass-old pc here) I'm gonna lose a good part of january here.

Still, let's hope that the game is as good as the original RO when it was at its peak.

prontera theme is burned into my mind

ive had so many fond memories of playing RO in high school with friends. it looked so charming and after i got bored with it my friends and i just used it as a messaging app for the smileys.

The only time RO went downhill for me, is when they increased the level cap past level 99.

MY GOD.
Please be good.. PLEASE.
So much time spent in RO.. I think I can sacrifice a bit more if only for more of that music.

Talked about thsi to a friend and she reminded that this was in development since 2007 ... went to look what happened and it all made sense.

There was TWO Ragnarok 2 !

and
Ragnarok_Online_2_-_Legend_of_the_Second_logo.png

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ragnarok_Online_2:_Legend_of_the_Second

wich is what we are getting.
The wikipedia page for the first one is REALLY interesting read, specialy the development part.

Long story short :
After entering a closed beta testing phase in 2006 and continuing through 2010 in Korean open beta testing, the game was reworked multiple times due to its poor initial reception. In July 2010 it was announced the entire game had been scrapped, and a new version, Ragnarok Online 2: Legend of the Second, would be developed in its stead. The new iteration of Ragnarok Online 2 returns to the systems and mechanics of the original Ragnarok Online while keeping the 3D engine.

and the long version is in the wikipedia, with special attention to :

Current Status

Changes in Gravity's leadership along with the game being poorly received in Korea during the open beta slowed development on Ragnarok Online II. Gravity since reworked the entire game. Global Business Manager Yunghun Lee said “We launched Ragnarok II in 2007. That version wasn’t really enough for the market, so we tried to revise all the systems, but it takes time. We changed the engine and everything, it’s like a totally new game. The engine changed several times, but now we’re using Gamebryo.”[5]
The schedule for the launch of Ragnarok Online II was delayed to the fourth quarter of 2010, having originally been scheduled to launch in the first half of the year. However, Gravity decided to postpone the launch in order to improve the game further. The company planned to start commercial service of Ragnarok Online II in Korea in the fourth quarter of 2010 followed later by the other territories where Gravity has already entered into license and distribution agreements.

“The launch of Ragnarok Online II has been delayed on a number of occasions but we don’t want to launch it before it is ready and want to ensure that it meets the expectations of our players as well as those of our own. We will continue to refine Ragnarok Online II and look forward to providing our users with a high-quality experience.”-
Mr. Toshiro Ohno, the President and CEO of Gravity.

The game had been in beta testing since May 2007 and was consistently delayed until the announcement was made that the entire game would be rebuilt from the ground up as a true Ragnarok Online sequel.[6] The remake has been named Ragnarok Online 2: Legend of the Second and Ragnarok Online 2: The Gate of the World's service will be terminated on August 2, 2010. The Closed Beta Test for Legend of the Second will start on August 31, and current testers of The Gate of the World will be able to use their beta accounts to gain access to the CBT.

Wich kinda explains why we are getting porings, pecos, basicaly the same classes (with the crafting classes turned into professions) and cards and other places like Payon, Alberta, Culvert and Prontera

Looking at the screenshots, I'm digging the aesthetic a lot.

It has a real "3d anime feel" to it that other games like it don't seem to have.

........

Totally not how I exactly what RO2 should be like. Even Gate of the World & Legend of the Second was a complete failure.

They really shouldn't have dwelled into the 3D/3D crossover like other typical MMO's out there.

Ragnarok Online was just - - golden.

Wow... Never knew they restarted this project. And the fact that the open beta is coming out so soon is even better.

I hope it's as much fun as the first one was. If nothing else, I'm sure I'll be buying the soundtrack at least.

watching the videos... this looks kinda bad.

no clue how it feels and what not, but visually this looks like f2p korean mmo stuff from 6 years ago.

At least my laptop should be able to run this. I do hope the game is responsive. It's really hard to get back to non action mmos after WoW.

RO, my first MMO and the one I've played the most.
I was super hyped when they've announced RO2: Gate of the World, tried the beta, but got some random crash in the tutorial.
After that, when I've heard they dumped it and made a new one I was kind of interested, but I've bumped into some English blog with videos from the Korean open beta and it looked liked any other random Korean MMO.
Still will try it because of nostalgia.

Even Gate of the World & Legend of the Second was a complete failure.
But this is Legend of the Second.

With all the folks around here that played it, I always wondered why the original IRO never had never had a GAF clan in it.

It would be pretty cool if this was a decent enough game to warrant one now.

I remember when the first (cancelled) Ragnarok Online II video got released like five years ago. It mainly showed off the novices and the chibi-ish art of the game. I swear they also had a bunch of races and classes made up already including a gun wielding one, but I could be thinking of something else.

Anyway no Dead Branches in front of Prontera, no sale.
