Media Create Sales: Week 51, 2012 (Dec 17 - Dec 23)

I doubt it. I think its more likely that WiiU just doesn't have a lot of appealing software, and its coming down off of a launch high mildly offset by a holiday. Seems I was the only person expecting it to just about hold right where it was this week. I definitely didn't expect it to spike upwards or anything, but it was obvious it wouldn't fall below 100k either.

It has 2D Mario from the start and Monster Hunter which previously around 1000k on Wii.

Oh its definitely gonna drop. Like a rock, I would put money on that. Look at the chart, wheres the software? That things going down to 70k or lower next week, and itll Vita slowly over the next few months unless they get some games out. Outlook is bad for that thing right now.

Agreed. Based on my experience here in Japan, reaction from many Japanese gamers has been lukewarm to negative. Once some more software rolls around and the OS bugs and slowness are fixed, things should pick up again.

PSP # | 65.859 | 33.002 | 101.121 | 857.713 | 2.016.406 | 19.587.097 |

That's what the numbers indicate.

It surely didn't get killed as fast as the DS did, but that's just because Sony can't afford to kill it.

I just don't really understand why not go multiplat, like PSP + 3DS. You could easily have another 120, 130k sales in there.

If anybody sees a reason though, I'd sure like to be enlightened.

Games also Bomb on the 3DS, I don't understand your reasoning for wanting all games on the 3DS because it sells the most. The success of a title is has more dependencies.

Can you contextualize this?

PS3 had a lot more competition, though. It had the Wii itself, the DS which was ascending to heaven (was it its second holiday?) and the last tail-end of the PS2.

Wii U only has the 3DS. Sure, PS3 and PSP, but those aren't serious competitors at this point.

I don't think the numbers are that bad, though.

Competition was not the reason for PS3's terrible sales.
Anyway am pretty sure 3DS is having a greater affect, especially now it can compete into what would traditionally be console games.

WiiU obviously has some issues, it remains to be seen what they look like over the next few months.

So uh, we're damning the Wii U to doomed status?

Well that was quick. Or my sarcasm detector must be broken. 3DS in beast mode.

Damn, HUGE sales for Wii U. Facing shortages Wii U has managed to Sell MORE units than Wii did it's in third week and overall for the first 3 weeks.
Not for Famitsu.

Also both trackers had the Wii selling over 200K in week 4, so I don't see this launch aligned comparison ending favorably.

Eesh @ Wii U

Welp, there goes any positivity I had for this thing's potential sales outlook this holiday season. Only 2 games charted too.

If it can't even manage a meager bump in sales at the time of year it's expected to, its going to be a very dire situation when the slower parts of then year arrive (and software isn't improved much at all).

03./00. [PSP] AKB1/149: Love Election # <ADV> (Bandai Namco Games) {2012.12.20} (¥7.329) - 143.774 / NEW

The Vita version sold 24.6% of what the PSP version did or 19.7% overall.

or you could like it this way ..

PSP sold to 0.73% of the PSP LTD
Vita sold to 3.186% of the Vita LTD

How are the Wii U numbers bad? I'm confused.

1 unit less than previous month is bad

Nintendo better get their shipment problem fixed.

Compared to the Wii, the Wii U will need to sell over 260,000 units in the next two weeks to keep it's sales advantage.

In this thread we will read really hard attempts at spinning some sales figures. They will have to try their hardest.

Can you contextualize this?

More hardware sales -> bigger userbase -> more potential software sales.
Then of course, games tanked really hard also on SNES, PS1, PS2, etc. but I don't remember software houses flooding over N64 and GC / Xbox.

The 3DS also offers a very similar experience with NSMB2 plus way more popular games and it's much cheaper. MH3, they've played it a million times, MHTri, MHP3rd, MHP3rd HD, MH3G and now MH3U. Rough times ahead for the Wii U until Nintendo (and third party) releases more appealing software. The Wii U version isn't even in the Top 30 and people can get the 3DS version for less.

If this is any indication.

japanese industry is pretty much doomed to terminal decline due to their own demographics and western-port unfriendly choice of hardware.

So - Wii U is more or less empty in January in Japan. Will Game & Wario be January (and will it help*?)? Will more titles be announced at the hypothetical bi-monthly Nintendo Direct (that should hit any day now...)?

*
lol
No, seriously, what have other console Wario titles done?

How are the Wii U numbers bad? I'm confused.

Maybe not bad, but a little underwhelming compared to previous week, seeing how 3DS and PSP had a boost whereas Wii U dropped.

On the other hand, Wii U software - I mean SMBU, NintendoLand and MH3U - is selling quite well all things being considered.

No need to contextualize? I just think the game would have sold more overall, and it would have helped them build the brand on the 3DS as well, is all.

That's the scary part for wii U. The wasteland of releases to come.

Pretty much. I'm waiting on an amazing (hopefully) Nintendo Direct with new games announced.

Japan is truley embracing Wii U has it's main console.

PS3 Second Week Sales - 42,099
PS3 Third Week Sales - 32,662
PS3 3 Week LTD - 156,400

I think you were trying to say 3DS and posted Wii U. Japan has said that Portable is all they need.

How are the Wii U numbers bad? I'm confused.

I think is Schuelma that says that platforms that don't increase their sales week over week during the X-mas period are showing signs that could spell trouble moving hardware going forward.

(I'm going by memory here so I could be wrong)

Nintendo better get their shipment problem fixed.

Do you have a source for the shipment/stocking issues with the Wii U?

That's much less informative with regard to future multiplatform games that are supposed to help the Vita.

It's my attempt at useless stats ..

Have there been other instances where the PSP version has radically outsold the Vita version? I'm sure there has considering the PSP isn't dead in japan. Maybe declining but not dead.

Looks like Sticker Star will easily be the best selling Paper Mario in Japan. Previous best was SPM with about 500k?

Paper Mario series:

[N64] Paper Mario (Nintendo) {2000.08.11} - 118.322 / 425.609
[GCN] Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (Nintendo) {2004.07.22} - 137.750 / 398.218
[Wii] Super Paper Mario (Nintendo) {2007.04.19} - 156.055 / 505.491
[3DS] Paper Mario: Sticker Star (Nintendo) {2012.12.06} - 122.457 / 331.529 (+55%)

Well lemme clarify again. I think WiiU did fine this week. I just think the numbers are gonna GET bad from here on out. It seems obvious that it will to me. I guess we will see, but it seems to have all those familiar symptoms.

They are very lucky, that once again, they dont have competing new hardware coming until nearly a year later. By late January Ill bet the WiiU is doing terribly.

It has 2D Mario from the start and Monster Hunter which previously around 1000k on Wii.

That MH has sold already, and moved the hardware its gonna move. Its not going to help this thing much at all man. Mario will be fine, but its not going to be enough.

Very good third week for the WII U christmas boost canceling out the natural drop, ROFL at people who thing those numbers are bad.

Good 3DS as well.

LOL Vita.

japanese industry is pretty much doomed to terminal decline due to their own demographics and western-port unfriendly choice of hardware.

Its the change of generations, if you'd put it into a graph, we're past the peak and going through a contraction. When the switch to next gen is over we'll be in recovery.

I predict it'll be < 100k next week, probably in the mid to high 90s. We can't do ban bets but I'd bet something, whatever you'd like. /shrug

Sure, a month sound good? For your side I'll put uhh something from one of my fav animated shows, American Dad or something.

Umm, that's why I said "We can't do ban bets".

Firstly, Wii U sellthrough in Japan is roughly the same as Wii at launch. In fact, Iwata made a personal apology about it last night.
Secondly, the idea that you know anything about Japanese stock supplies is totally laughable.

Avatar bet? A Nintendo avatar of my choice.
Another condition would be that you don't come in to another Media Create thread unless you bother to learn context and expectations of Japanese sales first.

Wheres Heavy and exterminieren at?

Nintendo better have some nice announcements set aside for an upcoming Nintendo Direct. I see those numbers dropping fast if they don't.
