Has the CTF playlist population been consistently high? I wonder if they removed the carrier waypoint, would a significant number of players abandon that playlist because they've become too accustomed to that crutch?
Consistently at about 5-8% of the population (so roughly 5-8k on most nights), recently the high placement on the listing and the Infinity Challenge being tied to it increased that to 10-15%. So a standard base proportionally higher than Team Objective before during Reach, still not stellar numbers. Not exactly sure what to attribute the increase to. I've seen enough people totally ignore the objective to wonder how much more accessible it actually is (especially considering how difficult offense has become if a team chooses to bunker down and camp), but I think it also isn't plagued by quite as horrible playlist management decisions as Reach TO was for so long (drop shield, then evade, then awful fringe gametypes, then 343 reinforcing that by miscategorizing those fringe gametypes every step of the way, then shoving 5v5 into maps obviously not designed for it).

I don't have a ton of love for Reach, but a recent trip back to Team Objective and playing real CTF and gametypes missing from H4 like Neutral Bomb was a total breath of fresh air.

Glitch. Probably the best glitch I've found so far. Making a video now, but its complicated to film.

You don't have to film it, the game does that for you. Just check your recent games from the Theater menu (it should still be there if you haven't played a lot since then), put it on your file share, and post the link from B.net. Then we can all download it to our Xboxes and watch it right on our own TVs.

I'm calling it now.
2 armour abilities per player in halo 5
Dual wield cums back.
Jet pack camo dual spikerrage

This is actually my biggest fear. When the next Xbox gets a new controller with some additional buttons, like two more bumpers, this won't be a problem at all.

Sprint, Camo and Jetpack and dual Boltshots for everyone. yay! -.-

Edit:

Remembers me of Assembly, but it looks good. Downloading it later.

Holy Shit. 2013 Update

I'm really loving all the testing work the guys over at MLG have been doing with the game. Seems like there's some conversation going on between 343 (or, at least Bravo) and them, too. The concept of a 4-shot BR alongside a 5-shot DMR excites me. That Lockout "Grande" looks really cool, too.

They made pretty decent geometry changes in the updated variants (the connecting hallways of Breakneck were outstanding), but even beyond Battle Canyon their weapon placement was largely atrocious. Two snipers within 5-8 seconds of each other on High Noon, a shotgun beside each teleporter exit on Highlands, moving defense Rockets from a dangerous spot on Breakneck to the totally safe rear hallway (putting offense rockets behind the ferris wheel where 95% of players didn't even know it existed). The list goes on but those are the obvious offenders. If you really want to get picky, their objective item placement has not been very good either - bomb arm locations outside the base on Battle Canyon in a killing field, High Noon offense/defense bases switched from Tombstone so that Defense Base is little more than two ramps and a flat area, etc.

They have shown a decent ability with the last Halo 2 pack and Anniversary to update existing maps for new generations, but the stuff they did from the ground up with Reach left a lot to be desired. I don't have super high expectations for them in Halo 4 as a result. I already have significant issues with how they've structured Dominion, but that's probably a separate issue.

Wut? I'm probably reading this wrong... a gametype was outsourced to CA?

I'd prefer it the other way around if they could take DMRs away from loadouts and put it on the medium and large sized maps as a 4sk, place it in line with the mid-level power weapons like SAWs and Needlers. DMRs should be fought for, BRs should be starting weapons. Personal Halo 4 pipe dream.

Is this actually a thing that can happen?

Sign me the fuck up, on Haven ? would be heaven.

Sort of possible. They've played with adjustments I think 110% damage (or something similar), which makes the BR 4 shot, while keeping the DMR 5 shot. It does affect other aspects of the sandbox, though.

I kind of like this. Since they don't want to make the DMR a pickup weapon, this seems to be an interesting perspective to the DMR being the clearly superior weapon. The BR being 4 shot gives it a faster kill time, but the DMR remains dominate past the BR's medium-short range. Weapon balancing could be addressed in the upcoming TUs, so that's something to look out for, also.

Edit:
This is what the T4 MLG Infinity settings look like right now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0PeV9hqyVI
Notice the predictable Personal Ordnance in CTF. Also note there will be MLG Classic settings in the future, too.

T5 settings coming soon, and I think that's the one they are going to test out 4 shot BR with.

Dang it Defect, you can't just drop stuff like that then leave.

The Reach DMR in Halo 4 sounds very interesting.

Whoops, sorry I fell asleep. I don't think it's obtainable in gametypes but modders have found it. There's a pic in Lord Zedd's fileshare I think.

...stupid autocorrect.

What's so great about that map? Not trolling, but I pretty much only played three games on that map (I missed the Halo 3 online bit.) Just felt like a bunch of crates to me.

I loved Longshore for one-sided objective. I mean, I can't explain to you why I think it's good (I would have a hard time doing that about my favorite MP maps), but I thought it was a great map.

BTB asymmetrical version of The Pit. That's why I liked it, anyway, it's just how the map felt to me.

Seems like the global ordnance in that MLG video is static?

It would have to be static if you ever want any sort of balance and/or fairness in a match.

Yeah they're using global ordnance in an interesting way. I think for example on Solace, there are two possible power weapon drop locations. Each of those locations have Saw and Rocket Launcher dropping there at 1 minute offset intervals. So Rockets are up every 2 minutes from when they are picked up, and Saw every 2 minutes, offset from the rockets by 1 minute, from when they are picked up.

That's how I understood it, anyway. I imagine it works similarly on other maps, or stricter on maps like Lockout where they also do have weapons placed around as far as I can tell, such as BRs, Carbines, etc.

Personal ordnance is static as well. Either concussion rifle, sticky detonator, or railgun.

I do wish there was some sort of global HUD that shows when a new personal ordnance is dropped onto the map. Even with the static (only 3 choices) on the personal ordnance it still occasionally leads to the roll the dice moment when you really have no idea what the opposing player is going to hit you with when you strafe around a corner.

I can imagine Steitzer saying things like "railgun drop" or "sticky detonator" - or just put a white icon on the screen for 5 seconds similar to the global ordnance indicators.

Just went +25 on some n00bs, lol.
I didn't play much of it in Halo 3 or Reach.

I wish there were a FFA version

Two questions.

What map?
DMR or BR?

Highlight this when you reply:

BR & Haven

Which do I prefer or what did I just play? If the former: BR on Haven. If the latter: BR on Abandon....but like I said, they weren't that good =p

More the former, but either way, surprised it wasn't BR on Haven that pulled in the big scores.

Map is so easy to play with a BR against bad players.

just touristing around campaign taking pics with my cap card

Cortana's buns please.

Ordinance's early Power Weapons destroy map control in Dominion.

So the first map pack ISN'T by CA?

This completely supports my suspicions. My guess is that Certain Affinity was meant to work on Dominion DLC leading up to 4's release, but they actually finished before 343, and as a result they had to switch. Also note how early we had seen Harvest concept art. Given how early we got map descriptions, someone should see if on-disc maps resemble certain DLC descriptions at all. If that's the case it could explain the similar maps; they were describing maps that turned out to be non-DLC, and now they're paying for it by having to live with those descriptions for two maps.

So thats why I dont see a dominion gametype in crimson?

Bingo. If it seems kind of weird that all the gametypes EXCEPT for one are by 343 and one of 343's own gametypes is paywall DLC, that's why.

EDIT: I need a few community opinions for my sandbox revision. Let's say that Initial Ordnance consists of static on-map pickups and is limited to weaker weapons like in the past. So far it would include:

Short-Range: Shotgun, Combiner (Needler Shotty), Buffed Scattershot

Mid-Range: Needler, SAW, Buffed Sentinel Beam

Long-Range: DMR, Needle Rifle, Knight Rifle (Name Pending)

The Combiner replaces the Energy Sword but the Sword would still be available in certain instances. Should I add a fourth category?

Explosive: Sticky Detonator, Concussion Rifle, Pulsebuster (Details pending)

These are lower-grade explosive weapons with the more powerful stuff being restricted to later global ordnance. It would also give teams something to fight over similar to initial Rocket rushes, but due to the higher skill curves of the weapons (moreso the Sticky Detonator and the Pulsebuster) it would be a more specialized fight, with the people proficient with those weapons going after them while the players not interested arm themselves with vehicles, DMRs, Shotguns, etc.

Someone posted this before, and its something I thought of when I first played Dominion.

Too. Many. Powerweapons.

Must have been made by Certain Affinity, so I guess Waher is right.

Seriously, the fact that things like shotguns, snipers, and rockets spawn INSIDE a base thats getting fortified is bullshit. And they spawn every 45 seconds or something. Someone mentioned a good idea would be to have it do grenade/loadout weapon ressuplies for 2 cycles, and then a power weapon drop on the 3rd. But only drop one MAYBE 2 power weapons. Not like 4 rockets.

Dominion is like BTB Heavies in Reach - except EVERYONE gets a laser/sniper/rocket. It's a great gametype to farm stats, kills, and weapon specific commendations.

Dude, Infinity BTB is BTB Heavies.

Global Ordnance Falling and Personal Drops for everyone? Wooooo....

Fix BTB 343 please. Sucks that my favorite halo gametype of all time hasn't been fun since Halo 3.

Used to be my definitive Halo. Uses most of the sandbox. Crazy fun shit always happened.

Yes, I'm loving SWAT. Just got a killtacular on Abandon (and went +18). :)

And I used to hate this map; I always getting destroyed with power weapons.

Fixed. If they tightened up the power weapons and the amount of vehicle activity, it might not be so bad. The concept is nice.

I agree with this, I love the concept, but the power weapon bonanza is tiring. I mean, besides maybe the banshee and mantis, there is no point to be in a vehicle that game other than transportation.

EDIT: Holy shit.
