Crytek considering other genres for Crysis games

Well, at least that's what they implied pretty heavily.

Once Crysis 3 is done do you want to continue with the series, or try something new and take a break?

You know, I think at this point I don’t want to give anything away. But I think the Crysis franchise itself has life left in it. Whether it’s in a different game type format, whether it’s expanding upon this, it’s hard to say. That’s going to be up to the designers at the end of the day. But I think we’ve built… Crysis was always intended to be a trilogy and I think that over that time we’ve built a really cool universe. We haven’t really gone in and said “Hey let’s put Nano suits and clown suits and stuff and completely violate and sell our IP.” We’ve done a fairly good job at maintaining that, so I think in terms of the universe, we have a lot more life left in that to go back and try some unique stuff. Whether it’s FPS or not I have no idea, but there’s definitely a future in the franchise.

Previously Cevat Yerli said that the next Crysis will be "much more radical".

thanks for the laugh
the crysis ip is now and always has been the least interesting thing about crysis. i wish they'd let it go.

Don't worry, Cevat clarified that they're also interested in selling said f2p games for $60 at retail.
Either they're planning to use the GW2 model, or this is the most arbitrary "F2P" transition I've ever seen.

And in seriouness, it'd actually be kind of neat if they decided to move into Metroid territory. It's not even a huge jump from what they're currently doing, you just make the world large, interconnected, with suit powerups to be found around the place.

Eurogamer: I've read you quoted as saying you'll be free-to-play only in the future. Will all Crysis titles in the future be F2P only?

Cevat Yerli: The truth is much more complicated. There's a transformation period for the industry. I believe free-to-play is our inevitable future. I believe there are F2P titles out there that can be story-telling, that can be co-operative with your friends and can be competitive with your friends. It's all possible. The business model is independent from the way you design games. It's a very important thing. People always make these things dependent, but it's actually completely independent.

But the most important aspect is there is a psychological transformation of the customers and the publishers that has to happen before everything is F2P on every platform. We are promoting these steps with other titles we're doing right now in our company. Crysis, we do have a plan for a F2P version of Crysis, but how this looks and when this will be done, whether this is the next one or the other next one, is to be decided.

But we have a very clear picture of how this will look and how a transitional period where retail and free-to-play can coexist for one title.

Eurogamer: The next one is potentially F2P and retail?

Cevat Yerli: Yeah.

Crytek should consider loaning their engine to a dev team with some talent and good ideas.
My god Dark Souls with some Crysis graphics.

Well, that's interesting I guess. But who cares about the Crysis universe? Are they really so devoid of any interesting ideas that they have to lean on that ramshackle pile of unoriginal concepts and terrible storytelling? Really?

Great. So Crytek will just release Crysis Cart Combat, Warface 2: Extreme War, Crysis 4: The Revenge, Warface 3: Ultimate War, Crysis 5: Return of Revengance, Warface 3: Mega War, Warface Warfare, Crysis 6: Nanopocalypse, Warface 7: Psycho Combat Evolved Extreme Musou Edition.

Oh hell, I've probably given them too many ideas now.

A series with such charm and character that it will no doubt translate well to any other genre not involving blowing shit up.
