I've been having issues with my PC lately. I can play games just fine until about ten minutes in when the frame rate goes to shit. A couple of frames per second is the most I get at that point. I think it has to with my PC overheating because it's been shutting itself down occasionally too. Not that I could run high-end games or anything before anyway, though. The best looking game I could run at a decent frame rate was Portal 2, but that's mostly because that game isn't taxing at all. A game like Half-life 2 for example runs like shit.
Sounds like what happens to some 360s before they RRoD. Could be a problem with your video card or something.
My brother used to run in to overheats all the time but instead of buying a cooling system that didn't blow (har har) he took a part of his case off and used a desk fan to keep his system cool. It worked until it ruined everything. Wound up fucking up his motherboard but he wound up getting everything sorted out for Christmas.
I wanted to try MOBA games back in WCIII until I joined a DotA game without having the map downloaded and then everyone called me various vulgarities I'd probably get banned here for uttering and kicked me from the session. Haven't stepped foot in once since. Instantly turned me off from the entire genre.

Open the case and check for dust. Give it a good clean. Leave it off for a solid hour, make sure it has proper ventilation.
It's a laptop so it's a bit trickier. Definitely gonna try that some time, though.
Egh. That reminds me. A while back my laptop's HDD shat itself and I had to replace it. Because of the shitty design of the 2nd Gen Dell Inspirons, it took a full ~30min teardown just to get to it. I had to disassemble literally everything... even the motherboard (which was in two pieces... Never been more scared of breaking something before haha)
Some laptops are so frustrating to service/clean

If you're a Halo story/Scifi nerd, check out the Cryptum and Primordium books! I really enjoyed them (They are VERY complex, though, Primordium especially...)
