"Velocity Ultra" for PSVita - Greatest PSMini will be improved & native res on PSVita

Hello again! It feels great to be back on the PS Blog! Especially now that we’re able to reveal a project that so many people have asked for: a native PS Vita version of our multiple award-winning PS minis game Velocity!

It’s called Velocity Ultra, and it features Trophies, online high scores and a completely overhauled visual style at native PS Vita resolution!

We’re reworking all the art in the game, so the cut scene stills have been recreated at a much higher standard than before.

We’re also unifying the art style throughout the game by ditching pixel art in favour of an edgy cartoon style.

We’re also adding lots of visual effects. Here’s what Velocity Ultra looks like at the moment. Please note this is the game at pre-Alpha, and the PS Vita dev kit seems to be compressing screenshots. The graphics look considerably cleaner when running live on the PS Vita screen.

You can think of Velocity Ultra as the director’s cut; everything we would have done the first time around if we’d had the budget. Our goal now is to create a perfectly formed piece of interactive art that will do your shiny PS Vita justice!

We don’t have a solid release date yet, but we’re on track to submit to Sony at the beginning of April, so we are guesstimating a release date in May. We are extremely excited!

We know that some of you might be a little disappointed, because you were expecting to see a sequel, not an HD rework. Well, don’t be too sad…

Velocity Ultra is a way for us to establish the Velocity franchise with a wider audience, and we’ve got plenty more Velocity in the works.

In fact, we’ve just published a Velocity Sequel Questionnaire to find out what you want to see in a sequel. If you fill it out, you could win a copy of Velocity Ultra!

Looks superb. One of the absolute best games on PSN last year (IMO) and now coming natively to PSVita with an absolute TON of improvements.

Wow, it sounds like it will be worth getting even after playing it on minis. Great game that was.

Velocity was one of the few minis I bothered downloading and playing... it was one of 2012's best downloadable games period. An optimized release for Vita is a no brainer purchase. It would be nice to give the developer a few bucks directly, since I got the original through PS+.

The Amiga Brotherhood
Sorry but the greatest minis is archibald's adventures imo
Didn't like the new artstyle.
Pixel based 2d(not the 320x240 "pixel art" on hd resolutions)>>>>>> everything else, but in this case the differences are almost invisible in game.

Got the game for free thanks to some promotion. Don't care for trophies or leaderboard. HD upgrade is nice but won't make me buy it. Will get around to playing the original Minis version when I have time.

This is by the people who made Coconut Dodge, right?

Then why are they wasting their time with this trash!?! I need Coconut Dodge vita right now!!! Hook it directly into my veins, I want to be high on coconut dodging all the time

I was planning on getting the mini off US PSN, but will wait for this. Have they announced a release date yet?

Wow, that looks fabulous. Was a little scared when I saw that they redid the art (I'm a person that plays the original Clash of Heroes over the HD versions), but it looks phenomenal. It was the chunky, Euro-style pixel art that didn't have a lot of character, in my opinion. So, yeah, this sounds wonderful.

It's in the OP.

Between Velocity and Coconut Dodge, this developer really reminds me of old Amiga games for some reason. Good stuff!

PS. Please add a 'retro' option for people who want to be able to switch to the PSP version's pixel graphics!

Hm, GAF got me interested enough to put the original mini on my "to-buy" list, but I never got around to it. Will buy this day 1.

We failed you! :'(

We will win you round! When you see it running... /hopes

That's because some of the tiles look like they lost some details, from the conversion from pixel art to the new artstyle you guys are using.

I'm sure the game will be even more amazing than it already was.
