Oh man, I remember when HG/SS hit I was the first to train an Espeon and breed Morning Sun to a growlithe. Dunno if any of you guy still have those babies. I traded probably 20 to GAFfers. Had Sunny Day / Morning Sun / Flare Blitz / Solarbeam
at least mine did.
Wow... that is pretty much my plan for a perfect Arcanine.
Flare Blitz/Morning Sun/Sunny Day/ Then hadn't decided between Solar Beam or Extreme Speed yet.
I was going with an Adamant nature, and EV training in Attack and Speed.
I don't understand IVs so I was still working things out in that regard.

played more than 1000 hours of pokemon easily. probably closer to 2000 and i never ever got a shiny. except those that everyone gets.

It wasn't my first shiny, but definitely the one I used most in Gold/Silver.
I'm unlucky too (not as much as you are)
I almost completed my Kanto dex in Fire Red (I literally just needed Leaf Green to complete it), seen the credits in all of the pre-Gen 5 games and yet... never encountered a damn wild shiny.

Because now we can see them from all angles and watch their brilliant sparkle trail as they tear enemies to pieces.
I also secretly hope that if you're using a shiny in a wireless battle and the other person has the 3D slider on, the sparkle effect temporarily blinds them.

Red Gyarados is technically a wild shiny.

I think I had a shiny Ponyta in Gold, but I'm not sure.
If my memory's playing tricks on me, it was Machop in Soul Silver.
