gaaahhhhh I just watched the 3DS Mystery Dungeon PV and now my desperation for more highly produced animation grows ever greater :(

Imagine each Pokémon having unique animations for each attack. Would be godtier.

I hope at least the Pokemon will have some animation for both a normal and special attack. Charizard roaring a metal claw would look a bit too off.

Ah - and also if they could close the eyes when the Pokemon are sleeping. They don't have to be doing anything else - just show the eye lids shut.

5th gen has been doing the whole "close eyelids while sleeping" thing for a while now.

Though it's not very effective in some cases; flying Pokemon like Lugia are still shown flapping their wings, Timburr still flips its wooden block up in the air...

With a little more than 750 Pokémon and more than 600 moves that would make 450,000+ different animations. It's a bit much to hope for.

Not really.

If you plan things out correctly it's very doable for a company as big as Nintendo and GF. Not every Pokemon is unique in body shape so it's logical that there would be tons of overlap.

Speaking of unique animations, do you think they'll allow us to see our chosen Pokemon Fly/Surf/Cut etc, instead of using some generic silhouette?

Am I the only one hoping we can still switch battle animations off? I always play with animation off because it speeds the game up so much. Makes battling a LOT less tedious! At least for the post-game where I'm trying to catch 'em all or just level grind.

Depends on if they have over-world models or not I guess.

I assume that they're gonna have low and high res models for battles and the Pokedex so maybe they can just use the battle model for the HMs.

You also have to remember that not every Pokémon can learn each move. Also, some moves can be the same for all if them like sound-based ones.

It's still a pipedream though.

Man, some of this art.

If they have overworld models, then I'd be hoping for more following pokémon like in Y/HG/SS. I just want that again. Always. =C

I concur. I want it close to, but not on my body.
So the tattoo version is still up for grabs.

Here you go, Zeer0id!

Hopefully they'll make one of these for XY!

Ugh I hate this. Pokemon should not be trying to be "cool and edgy" in the DBZ/Yugi-oh/13 year old boy sense.

The older games were very lighthearted and didn't take themselves very seriously. They should scale back. The story should be about a young trainer striving to be a champion and catch them all, not about fighting teams bent on world domination or legendary GOD SPACE TIME JET PLANE legendaries.

But it was all very silly... they had their headquarters in the basement of a Pokecasino.
I dunno, everything started escalating in RSE. I didn't play BW2 but it seems that it reached new heights. They should tone it down in XY. The new legendaries are a good start - they seem to be mythological creatures, not space-warping universe-creating fighter jet dinosaurs.

The game should have 6 legendaries. The two main ones, the legenary trio and a Mew equivalent. It should definitely not have ~15 legendaries like DP and BW.

The only thing I want them to improve on is the RPG side of things.
Just add some more sidestory bits, but deeper than the usual ones, and I'd be good.

There's plenty they can improve on in that regard.
All whilst being followed by your pokémon

The spoiler part is very important.

The lack of news slowly ruins my sanity.

Isn't Coro-Coro coming out tomorrow? We should get more info since we only got selected pages.

We never, ever get anything interesting past the first big leak. If there's so much as a screenshot on a page, it's always amongst the first batch of scans.

No, it'll be at least February before we know anything new.

He asked for unique animations. But I think it's possible for them to animate the moves themselves along with some movements for each Pokémon that they can connect together.

I can guess the animation will be this:

1 for idle, regardless whether it's on land or sea
1 for idle in critical condition (unless they go lazy and they make the Pokemon just animate slower)
1 for getting hit
1 for contact move
1 for non-contact move
1 for fainting

Speaking of which...

How did people get Sugimori art of all of the other mons? Aren't usually the ones that get shown in media (like magazines) the base forms of early mons, the starters and their evos, and the main legendaries?

I expect these at an absolute minimum.

Other RPGs (Final Fantasy 9+ being a my main reference here) have loads of monsters and loads of animations.
Was particularly impressed by those that had a normal defeat animation and a overpower defeat animation. (Usually sent tumbling backward)

Plus unique animations for signature moves, and corrected animations for crotch hyperbeams.

Said monsters in Final Fantasy tend to be palette swaps though, and most only have an idle, a dying, a casting, and an attack animation :p

Holy shit, never paid much attention to Golurk. That Pokemon is now 10 times cooler to me.

This is one reason I really enjoy the anime. It reveals so much about the pokemon world that you would never get otherwise.

I haven't been following it really, but I'm tempted to start. Maybe I'll just read the Manga...

DP and BW had an inflation of legendaries in general, but there's no way they'll be going back to just 5 or 6. They usually like to have one event Legendary every year, and now that they won't be leaked right after the main game release for the first time, there's no way they'll be dropping that idea. that by itself should mean around 10 legendaries by the end of the generation and that's if they cut down on the number of initial legendaries, which seems unlikely to me.

I mean, a trio and two legends, one per version, might sound good, but they'll need at least a third one for the third version or sequels. They also like to leave some legends for the post game. Gold and Silver just let the player get the other version's legend in a very high level, but the later games just had standalone legends for that purpose, and I don't see them going back on that.

Also Vanillite-line aren't actually "soft". When you remove the snow "cream" you'll see the actual head of Vanillite-lines.

They're bald.

Also to people who hate Golurk

Screw you, it's Pokemon's answer to Iron Giant - the good giant protector who flies and fires beams from its hands

Iron Fist Golurk is best Golurk.

...which in hindsight kinda sucks, because he should have good SAtk for those beam attacks.
