Rumor: Monster Hunter Franchise "Handheld" Exclusive for 3 Years on 3DS

Road posted this very interesting "rumor" posted by a user with a previous track record of leaking MH3G on the 3DS. This was buried in one of the Media Create Threads but a lot of users missed this and decided that this is very interesting news in its own respect.

Apparently the original source for the DQ7 rumor: http://club.tgfcer.com/thread-6398778-1-1.html

1. 7th entry of a famous RPG for the 3DS.
2. 3DS revision.
3. Something about a contract between Nintendo and Capcom saying no MH on other handheld systems for 3 years.

Also, this was in 2010 from the same person: http://club.tgfcer.com/viewthread.php?tid=6266776

- Rumor about MH3 on the 3DS.

Am I being trolled by the Chinese?

So what does this mean?

1) Monster Hunter available for other portable platforms by 2014
2) Will be 3 years into the PSVita's cycle?
3) Will Vita remain to be a viable platform at this stage?
4) What significance does this have for the PSVita?

I doubt Capcom is looking to segregate the user base on this one but i could be wrong. I imagine the 3 years thing is just a fail safe, I don't think we'll see MH returning to Sony portables in any relevant form.

Yeah, unless Sony throws their money at Capcom, who is currently not too happy with them. Makes all the sense in the world to continue working with Nintendo instead.

The damage is already done. The only chance of MH appearing on Vita is if MH4 bombs. Actually no, I forgot about something.

And that post is from months ago.

Vita doesn't have 3 years.

This surprises me though. Don't really buy into Nintendo paying Capcom as theres stuff that doesn't fit - I think 3DS and Monster Hunter benefits both companies too much for either to really hold something over the other. And MH would just be too expensive, would be a big price attached and Nintendo just don't need to pay it.

Maybe more connected to money through bundles or a special deal on the cut Capcom get on each game.

Even though nothing was ever formally announced, I thought it was painfully obvious that Nintendo had bought off Monster Hunter. Capcom has never been a company to show restraint on a franchise, without that deal I have no doubt we would have seen Portable 3rd at least and maybe even a Vita monhun game. Bad deal for the fans.

MH is a game which main selling point is it's local co-op multiplayer. Due to the fact that this cannot be done between two competing products, traditional MH games will almost certainly stay on one handheld. A fragmented handheld MH market will not be as effective for Capcom.

No reason why you can't have cross platform play.

Don't matter which platform it on. Hardcore MH vets like me and my friends/MH fans in Japan will migrate. I imported a JP3DS at launch and will continue to own one until or if it moves somewhere else.

It doesn't matter what system it's on as long as its on handhelds. MH will sell millions.

I guess that could explain why Soul Sacrifice is being made, but I'm not really up on how much involvement Sony has with the title. It's just a wild guess.

Get out of here with this garbage...
What kind of garbage exactly?

1. MH is not nearly as commercially successful in the west as it is in Japan
2. PSV sold less than 700k last year in Japan; while 3DS sold over 5m.

I don't see how these two combined lead to any conclusion beside that PSV stopped being a viable platform, as for as the context of this topic is concerned, several months ago.

We got a funny guy here, there's no way you can compare vita's situation with that of the early ps3

It's best to ignore those kind of posts. We know Sony will never give up on the Vita just like they didn't on the PS3.

Yep, Sony is going to spend 4.5 billion dollars to save the Vita too and devote all of their resources to i....oh...uh....

Edit: We're already starting to see stores removing Vita

Please quit while you ahead. Not only is your "prediction" hyperbolic in nature, you are coming across as fanboyish. Vita's situation is due to the price and its place in a market where it's having issues with its identity. Nobody in this forum knows what will happen next week let alone almost 2 years down the road. Cut it out.

Maybe it's true but it doesn't explain why Capcom doesn't even try with their other games on Vita, other than quick late ports of their fighting games.

If such a deal was made it suggests that Capcom never recognized Vita as a viable platform for their games to begin with. not sure what would change in a year with current pathetic sales.

This deal does make sense though considering MHP3rd HD was supposed to be a Vita launch title. I was wondering if Capcom had just cancelled it or if there was something else in place.
