^ Dinosaurs~! I love dinosaurs. I really should draw more. I like creatures and animals in general, but I really don't design them enough. It's sad.

I don't know how to critique well, and graphite/pencil isn't really my forte, so the only thing I can really say is that it looks like you put a lot of effort into the little details in this image. But maybe it would look more natural or confident without the outlines on all the scales and contours being so heavy (or full?)? I don't even know if I am explaining this right, so feel free to ignore me~ XD

Ahh the angel and demon one is about angels and demons and how they have come into our existence from our imagination and how desensitization and dilution of souls (over population and the like) has left humans unable to create any more of these spirits. It’s an adventure on how Ascillas (the angel) must come to terms with this and figure out the purpose of life. My goal for this year is to start the comic and make some lesbian fairy tale comics too xD I made some charms of them:

That’s cool I don’t think I would ever have the guts to do that. Starting your thesis did you know you wanted those pieces (your body parts) in for sure? Did you major in sculpture? LOL you’re cute “At first I was unsure” XD. I agree with that, I dropped many projects because my heart wasn’t in them anymore (or that was just unprofessionalism lol).

That would be cool I love little trinkets especially little papers and tiny things like matchboxes decoupaging them with images (I don’t do this now but when I was a kid I was obsessed with that stuff). YES their still amazing (comic artists) but I guess practice makes perfect. Hmm do you work digitally at all? Ahh do you have pictures of them? That sounds cool.
Those charms are sooooo cuuuteee.. @__@
Your superstition is a little funny. I used to think a lot like that, since I created some.. pretty evil OCs and then I wondered if I ever drew in bad (like evil spirits lol) stuff because the OCs represented all this terribleness and maybe they would give me bad luck. >_>
I kind of got over it though because.. I uhh.. make enough powerful goodguys to balance it out and defeat them. lol (I know it's all supersttion too, but it's kind of fun?)

Hope you do get to making a comic of them! I know I always want to but.. omg.. it's SO DAUNTING!
I think this image from tumblr (originally form cryptovolans) explains it all:

SO, while I keep procrastinating on the dream of making "My Great Idea for a Comic" (tm), I do character designs and other side things instead.. like this recent character profile image~:

Oh how cute! I love your style and how you can actually finish something (The last time I finished a drawing was like two years ago..... omg so long) Do you have more designs? Is this just a hobby or are you going to art school? : )

AHH! I'm not alone in my superstitions xDDD That's good you have more good characters lol XD Ahh yeah that comic thing is so true but I think a way to cheat the 5 page forever is to just post every page as sketches then when you finish your comic you can redo all the pages and they would all look the same and pro. Why don't you make a short comic based off of a fairy tale story retold? That could help get your foot in the door of drawing comics? (That's what think I'll be doing this semester)

Did this small ass tutorial for a friend of mine who was struggling with her color making decisions.

Thought this would also be useful for the general artist. Short version: Instead of just going darker with your color selections, change the hue of the color as well!

You could also say to switch over to the Lab color picker, a lot more straight forward for painting style use of photoshop imo

So, just putting this out there...I need two pieces of concept/target render art for a Kickstarter I'm running in a few weeks...the art will likely be isometric. If you have experience in this sort of thing, go ahead and PM me a link me to some sample work! It's a paying job and all that.

Drew this comic based on a one time me and my girlfriend were hanging out. I still haven't fully recovered from this tragic event.

A little too explicit I think. Maybe instead of the last 2 frames just show her dog-earring it then the last frame would be a John Kricfalusi (Ren and Stimpy)-style super gross detailed close-up of your reaction. No words. Just a really funny facial expression in the same vein as son I am disappoint or something.

Just did this character design, he's the main dude in a story I'm writing. The vest is armor and there are more pieces that attach to it (which I'm designing next), but he wears just the vest around for most of the story.

Yeah.. I have a bunch of them.. But I need to find time to update them too. XD
You can see a few of them here: http://meibatsu.deviantart.com/gallery/3336643
A lot of them have been "stored" though since they are designs I need to update are have a bunch of "story spoilers" I need to remove or get through before I show them again. lol

I start and stop many comics, unfortunately. Q___Q A lot of my comics actually are nothing but scraps, but then I move on after being satisfied that it even came out as a scrap and never work on them further (one of them was over 40 pages, but I ran out of steam due to some motivation problems and then got distracted with new things I wanted to do lol). xD One day I will come back to redo and finish them.. maybe. o___o

As for my latest character design~
He's a shapeshifting ancient ocean spirit that "recruits" people into becoming other ocean spirits.
On the left, his "civilian" clothing makes him look aliek a priest/concubine. xD
On the right, his "hero" uniform looks like a mix between a beta fish, a flamenco dancer, and a Lunar New Year dragon~
Yes, he is very fabulous. lol

On the first one i used the brush flow at 30%, which was a tip i had read at some tutorial.

Made another wallet in my attempt to teach myself leather crafting. Still incredibly rough, especially in the stitching, and I've made it too thick to be something I want to use, but it's probably the most complicated construction yet and I'm somewhat happy with it. Managed to incorporate zippers, buttons. edge finishing and pocket folds into part of my design considerations, as well as planning the stitching as part of the design. Also did some skiving which turned out pretty well all things considered.

I'll be making another wallet in a similar style now that I've learnt what to do and what not to do from this wallet.

Why does InDesign like making images look like shit?

We need a general Adobe thread so I can complain about things. Looking @ u, After Effects.

Indesign usually on uses a low resolution surrogate file instead on constantly loading a print sized file so for bigger projects you don't have 60-100 print sized images loaded on your ram.

Assuming you are talking about when you are working in the program, if it looks like shit in the export make sure your image links work.

How would you guys recommend I use the Loomis books for learning how to draw better? I have Figure Drawing for All Its Worth and Drawing the Head and Hands. Is it mostly understanding the text and drawings, and reproducing the diagrams?

I doodled some of my characters as anthros while watching my stupid hockey team lose last night and threw on some quick colours so it looks like I put more effort into it.

And flats for the next character profile, which will be shaded tomorrowish.. and yes, her pink and red clash to add an extra layer of trolling and annoyance or something XD:

Life drawing and doodles for people. Took my tablet to my new life drawing group and got some work in. It was pretty fun. Some other little doodles i did recently.

Going back tonight and we will have a model in full roller derby get up but i have no idea what i want to do with her. We can take reference in this one since she is clothed. Thinking of a tame pin-up but i dont have the pose decided on yet.

You should obviously be reading the text and reproducing the drawings but you can't do it mindlessly. You'd be surprised how easy it is for most people to just read the text and copy the drawings without really paying attention to what's going on.

You need to spend a huge amount of time actually just thinking, really ingest what's going on. The text is their to help you understand the process of why the drawing/anatomy develops like it does.

It's often good practice to reproduce the drawings but then do something more, after, applying the same principles. For example if your looking at the basic head model that he uses based on the sphere. Copy and read his drawings to understand his method, and then do some more when you are looking at photos of people and constructing the head based on that photo's perpsective/shape/size. You could then go on to do some from imagination. Same would apply for his methods of the facial planes, you would look at photos and redraw them simplifying them down to the planes that Loomis uses.

Its about understanding the principles and the method, so you can use it independently in your own drawings.

Hope that helps.

Thanks! Still slowly going through chapter 1 of the figure book trying to get down proportions.

For starting out I'd do lots of gesture drawings and charcoal sketches and such of images, random people in public, or friends posing for you as well, will certainly help to have you try to focus on solving problems yourself before seeing how loomis solves them.

Thanks for that. Will try to do those daily!

Hello there, first and foremost I want to say. You guys are amazing, I've being reading the topic since day one (sure I've missed some pages) and want to say that there's some high quality stuff that's just enyoable to the eyes.

On the matter at hand. I drew a self-portrait and I liked it so much that I want it on my wall, but framing is another Art all together and I want something that won't take away from the drawing but rather enhance it. Anyone here knows something about framing, like what materials give what kind of vibes?

You might want to post it so we can give you a better suggestion.

Anyway here are two fanarts I just finished:

Foxy Fox, I already told you this in another thread, and I'll say it again : your style really is awesome. Just took a look at your DeviantArt page too, there is some great, very inspirational stuff in there. I like that you have a very distinct pencil stroke while still being able to make really varied illustrations.

Finished my first leather satchel. Decided to make it a two compartment type which made it bloody difficult to stitch, but managed to do it. The fit isn't perfect for the inner divider and some of the stitching is ugly in spots (though mostly in areas that can't me seen) but I'm pretty happy with it, considering the amount of effort I've put into it.

Going to finish my other satchel soonish with a far less complicated style of stitching.

I will probably make more art of this game at some point when I finish it and find all the characters I like. xD
I am really happy the game is getting lots of critical acclaim and seems to be selling very well. My sister also decided to import the artbook for it. *drool*

As always, great work, guys! Oh, to have the time to contribute more...as this thread really does inspire with all the awesomeness.

A couple...one almost done, the other just new.

Bnl.png

Reworked some colours, enjoying a cooler colour palette. Still need to add a few more things, but for just some shmoe getting a little late-night scribble in, pretty happy.

Cnl.png

A new one. Will rework some colours etc., and then kick off the background/foreground etc. Lots of foliage and all that jazz.

Keep up the great work, folks. Love it.
