Go look at any video game announcement thread that involves objectification of female characters in any way, shape, or form.

Yeah, I'm starting to become aware of his/her shtick. Displaying moral fiber is admirable and all, but at some point, it just crosses the line and becomes prudish behavior. :/
It's a few skimpy outfits and some breast jiggling. Get the fuck over it already.

Having played the Japanese version, I found this to be a good (but not great) game. Glad it's getting localized. It's way better than Code of Princess, at least!

Does this game have any kind of multiplayer? Local? Online? It has the Nintendo Network logo so it has some form of online.

Oh man, awesome news. Namco US/EU is going to do a better job of celebrating Mega Man's 25th anniversary than Capcom.

Best Megaman too.

Objectification is too extreme for this case, I think.

Also that PW sprite Ryuukan posted is too perfect for the ocassion.

I find the whole breast-jiggling thing annoying too, but I'm basically in the same camp as Dark Schala, i.e. that isn't a deal breaker for me and if it was I don't think I'd post it here for everyone to make sure of that.

AFAIK the Japanese version came with a code to download some items shortly after release. Aside from that I'm not sure.

Yeah, that's fine and whatever. But you're not saying that the game shouldn't be localized because of it unlike a certain other poster.

It's crazy that anyone would argue a game shouldn't be made or localized for any reason. If something offends you, just don't buy it. Easy.

Saying no one should be allowed to buy some media because you don't like it is tantamount to censorship.

Seeing that in a Banpresto game is like seeing Kratos rip off heads in a God of War game. You just get used to it after a while.

Is this game not good? I havent read through the entire thread.

I haven't played it, but I have played NxC and EF, so expect this:

*Never-ending amounts of fanservice(I mean this in the cameo/casting sense, not the other sort)
*Chapters that take forever
*Fun battle system that gets repetitive quick, but still has its charms(in small doses, so take breaks from it)
*Absolutely nonsensical plot. I don't envy the localization team.

it gets very repetitive but the main appeal is the huge cast and the amount of fanservice. If you aren't familiar with some the of the series or doesn't have anyone that you like then it might not be your cup of tea.

I haven't finished the game yet but a lot of it is once you find the best chain of attacks for a pair/pair with support, combat doesn't change too much. Everyone seems to get an additional attack or attacks upon hitting a certain level but that's not really enough to drastically change your attack orders. Every battle is basically: launch enemy/break enemy shield to launch them, and keep them in the air as long as possible until you run out of moves or they die. It's identical to Endless Frontier.

Also, IIRC enemy health starts out pretty low at first when you can take out each unit with a single pair unit but it scales pretty high after a few hours where it's taking multiple pairs to take out a single unit, and then there are like 20+ of those units on the map so it feels really grindy/drawn out. It's a weird spike in the length of time it takes to complete each mission and the difficulty of the monsters too; I'm frequently getting new characters who are many levels above the ones I currently have (so the new characters will be on equal level with the enemies of the stage) so I could be doing something wrong in maximizing XP gain though.

A lot of the novelty in every mission so far has been seeing what new characters I get and playing around with the kit. After that wears off it's just beating up enemies to get to the next stage. I can't read any Japanese though but that's just what I find repetitive in the gameplay.

This for the most part.

Thing is they had a dcent balance up until about Stage 20 but after this it gets very bad. The time it takes to take out a single enemy isn't so bad, but the sheer amount they start throwing at you and the amount of HP that starts to rack up it just really bogs it down.

If they had the pacing of stage 1-18 all the way until the last 5 stages or so then it would have been a much better game.

All this said the sheer amount of love and work they put into every character is simply amazing. The work Monolith did with characters like X and even some of the Sega Characters just shits all over the characters parent companies efforts for nearly a decade.

By about a little over halfway through the game you'll have unlocked every character as well as all of their attacks, so the feeling of character growth is gone and every stage is just a grind to get to the next one. Later on stages can take a good 1-2 hours to complete and the stages themselves are pretty barren with with no meaningful terrain mechanics other than some walls and obstacles.

It's generally agreed that the game falls apart after about the halfway point. They use the same plot element over and over again to explain why you need to go onto the next stage with the villains doing the same thing over and over as well. The story doesn't make you eager at all to see what will happen next.

The game's supposed to be about 50 hours long and I stopped a little short of 40 after reading it doesn't get much better. I still liked it better than NxC but it's quite terrible as an SRPG.

Pretty much this. There are certainly cool moments involving fan fav characters, but the overall story isn't enough to push you forward when you're playing as characters you don't care about. On top of the shallow game mechanics, the whole thing just becomes a bit of a chore.

But yeah, better than NxC. I will say though, that the sprite work is pretty fucking awesome. For many, that'll be worth the price of admission. It was for me, anyhow.

There have been several impressions in this thread but the game wasn't received very well in Japan.

It does contain some of the most beautiful sprite work and animation you'll ever see along with excellent remixes of licensed themes from their respective series though. Conversations between crossover characters are always a fun novelty to see and the game has a few good points. The gameplay itself is best described as shallow though, eventually becoming tedium, along with an awful story. It's almost as if a company like compile heart got their mitts on all these megaton licenses and decided to put together a game with their usual design philosophy.

I half wouldn't recommend paying full price for this because I don't think it's worth it, but at the same time it's probably a good idea to support it if you want to see more localizations for the future.

Also a page or two of boob talk consisting of "arghh this fanservice/pandering is disgusting and need not be in the game" and "get over it!!"

Just watched this. I'm in. Day one
For anyone who wants to know if the game is good, well it really is that video over and over again.

Add in some cross over stuff and you get that for about 40 hrs. Thing is if you love 2D or the characters involved it really is worth it to see all the love and care Monolith put into them.

Welcome to GAF (wow you got approved in less than a month?). Most news items like this are posted within minutes of the original source announcement, and interesting articles from the various sites within a few hours.

Also, you can't make threads as a Junior :(
Yeah, it was pretty close to a month before I got approval--thought I may have "slipped through the cracks," but then I came to find out that it was the usual process.

And I forgot about not being able to create topics! Drat. But oh to the well, at least I can finally take part in GAF discussions :D

Multiple Impression

Well that sucks. Was really looking forward to this. Hopefully you guys aren't going to be the majority opinion, as I recall that TWEWY got a lukewarm welcome from most importers, but I'm not going to give my hopes up.

There's always Fire Emblem.

Those are generally the optimistic/kind impressions actually.

It's certainly annoys me but it isn't a deal breaker. God of War, Bayonetta, and No More Heroes and a thousand other games do the same thing.

No she's just the token no fun allowed can't handle sexualization of any kind person that appears to say their piece anytime something like this comes up. That said the game really doesn't look all that great aside from just liking it because it has characters you like. Seems like a NXC part 2, but i'll still get it.

Welp, looks like I'm gonna jump into this game this summer.

Fanservice? Check. Babes with bouncing boobs? Check. Over the top combat? Check. Awesome sprite work? Check.

I'm in. Can't wait to play it. Though, I do hope they make a special edition with an art book or something.

The first print or whatever edition of the Japanese game came with a little art booklet. Maybe they'll do a P4G and stick the unsold ones in with US purchases. :p

OMG!!!!!
I TOTALLY FORGOT! Forgive me Erica for I had busty princesses on the brain again! >_<
Wanted to go with the original characters, but can't say no to Erica, so...I'm a gonna take this one instead. ^_^;
I think I pretty much established myself as THE Erica avatar pimper in this piece, so there's that too. ^_-

The game has already had bomba bin fire sales at Japanese retailers and maintains a 3/5 star average on amazon jp. The feeling definitely isn't just from an outspoken minority in this thread or anything.

That said, I'm not trying to convince anyone not to buy the game. Local sales are going to do nothing but help show namco bandai that there's a market for niche games here.
If you love these characters the game may be worth playing. Just don't expect a great, or even good game if you're looking for gameplay.

Maybe they'll make some adjustments to the gameplay to even things out a bit. Either way, I agree that people shouldn't expect much from the game. Still should be a fun little game to play with some characters people are fond of.

Okay, so it gets tedious after the half way point. Hmm. I kind of want it for X and Zero and the general crossover aspect, but I dont want to waste my time knowing it turn out like that. Some of the character selection seems to just be there for advertising whatever upcoming/released game that was occuring at the time of this games' release, like Chris and Jill and VC3 protagonists. Kind of turns me off.

But dammit it I want to play as X. D:

well, looks like the impressions Im reading seems to be that the game is similar to Endless Frontier. Loved that game, guess I wont be having any problems with the game after all.

I always say that proof is in the playing. People have such varying tastes and toleration for certain things that one person may not be able to deal with something, but for another person it's a lot of fun. Maybe there will be a demo before the game comes out which will allow people to give it a shot before they buy.

Either way, for me as long as it's a strategy/RPG with crazy fanservice and good sprite work, I'll be satisfied. I don't expect more from the game than that.

After watching that 10 min gameplay video I'm a bit more interested in this although it looks like this can get repetitive really quick.

Ew... jiggling boobs? Seriously? Leave that bullshit to Team Ninja, I don't mind cleavage, nude girls or crotch shots but jiggling boobs are the stuff only otaku like, hopefully I don't have to play with those characters since I'll be getting the game anyways, it's not like jiggling boobs are a deal breaker for me but I hate that crap.

I'm glad the game is getting localized by the way

You get it because your favorite characters are together in one game. Sakura Wars, Valkyria Chronicles, Mega Man "freakin" X, God Eater, Klonoa, Darkstalkers, Virtua Fighter...BOOBS! Yeah, those are some good reasons. I want to send kudos to Namco for even thinking about doing this to boot!

Buncha prudes in here.

I've seen like 2 people and femmeworth, but I can't blame them(the other 2 people) for not liking those cut-ins i'm not even that big of a fan of those kinds, I can't put my finger on why it just feels weird. I however do like fan-service and some pandering nor have a real problem with it because it does sell games more than it would turn off gamers in this case.

It sucks knowing the consensus is that the gameplay is just not there, but still wanting this a ton.

I don't know why they didn't just make this a fighter like jump ultimate stars. Game would have sold more and had more replay value.
