What does NEOGAF think of the graphics on Wii U's second wave of games

The stuff we saw today looks fucking fantastic.

I love the use of lighting and shaders to create some really neat looking visuals.

I posted the screenshot as a response to the Red Dead screenshot to show how it may not be the best idea to judge a games graphics quality by one shitty screenshot. What is there so hard to understand? I seriously don´t get it.

I...

Is there someone else that can explain it better than I did? I mean, I thought the whole "you posted an enlarged screencap of a streaming video" thing would be enough, especially if I said it twice, but apparently I'm not being clear enough.

Immensely disappointed at the lack of people bashing X visuals. Come the fuck on guys, wasn't the WiiU supposed to have worse graphics than PS3/360?

lol

I don't see why people can't accept this as a fact. I mean Wii U is supposed to be more powerfull, so it's natural that finally a Wii U game looks better than any PS3/360 game.

The problem with this is it doesn´t look better than any 360/PS3 game. It´s clearly a display of current gen graphics, not more not less.

I already answered to that. Am i arguing with a wall or something?

So yes, I claim it again, X looks better than anything on PS360. Not what I'd call a gap, but better looking.

It doesn't really look better though. It looks about as good.

Looks pretty impressive. They are not really technically spectacular but definitely can be put up there with some of the best of current gen.

It doesn't really look that much better though. Like not even the difference between Wii and Xbox 1. If you told anyone those were 360/ps3 games they wouldn't have any reason to believe otherwise.

Honestly, I've yet to be impressed by the WiiU graphically.

It has more a more advanced GPU architecture than the 360, and more so the PS3, but whether or not it has the power to take really advantage of that advancement remains to be seen.

Let's just assume that X has a world as big as that of Xenoblade. Does any current gen game of that scale has remotely comparable quality in visuals?

And they would be amazed. As I said, as a whole it looks better.

I don't think we can even say there was a first wave of games. There hasn't been enough time and there's hardly been any releases.

Yoshi looks amazing. since the first Yoshis Story came out, I've waited for Nintendo to have the power to make a game with realistic textures to make games that look like actual toys. This is as close as they've gotten.

I still want to see a Mario where he looks like a vinyl toy in a plastic & fabric world.

I think they all look really good but not noticeably better than PS3/X360. Most of it could be attributed to the art though.

Wind Waker HD looks kind of bad to me though since it's not using cel shading. I hope they fix that before they release it.

"Up with what PS3/360 has done so far". Man, you guys are going to be SO disappointed with PS4/720.

I doubt it. the PS4 and 720 should have some much more up-to-date GPU technology... given the rumours about both Sony and MS going all out on the hardware specs.

I think we'll see some really impressive stuff when those real next-gen consoles come to the party. Unreal 4 looks absolutely amazing.

There's a pretty big difference between a press shot and a hideously artifacted streamcap, no matter how unflattering the press shot is supposed to be. Largely because even if a screenshot is unflattering, it's still an actual screenshot of the game as it looks.

X has the best moving grass I have ever seen.

That said, X looks amazing (esp. if being generous about an early build) to me, and I play Skyrim with ENB at 2560x1600. Just in case anyone wants to tell me that I only think it looks good because I haven't seen anything better.

I think what's go great about X is that we're very early in the Wii U's life cycle and xenoblade isn't that old yet we're already seeing games like this, especially when a lot of people in the Nintendo direct thread prior to the stream thought that monolith soft's next game would look ugly.

The detail and scope of the game looks great and with the awesome gameplay, story and music we've come to expect from monolith, and with extra Dev time, is an exciting prospect.

If you mean the Samaritan demo, you're definitely going to be disapointed if you're expecting in game graphics that look like that.

In game graphics haven't matched the 2006 UE3 tech demos yet.

As already said Red Dead Redemption. And i´m pretty sure there are others.

Please allow me to illustrate your point with this screenshot.

Where's Dennis with those Far Cry 3 screens? X seriously impressed me with its clean draw distance. It reminds me of the draw distances on Far Cry 3 PC
Xbox 360 and PS3 couldn't dream of such draw distances to be honest

Wow ! Not so fast ! Too much arguments for me here !
Could you sum up or make it shorter ?

How can he make a compelling argument AND be witty at the same time! Joking aside, its still early days, I'm sure the game will only improve as time goes on.

RDR has tons upon tons of alpha textures as well as a day and night cycle, so unless this game has something similar, your claims are false.

Well, we know the game has a day and night cycle, just look at the gifs throughout the thread.

I still can't see how someone can claim that an open desert with bushes and maybe a few horses is more detailed than what we've seen of X. It baffles me.

EDIT: Yes, I know that RDR is more than just a desert with bushes. But for all intents and purposes, that's what it feels like compared to this new game.

And as i already said, that´s not true.

No, it really isn't. And, IIRC, the world on RDD isn't as big as that of Xenoblade.

And again, we are comparing it to a Wii game lmao. I'm sure X is gonna be considerably bigger than that, therefore making it even more impressive to have visuals on that level of quality.

Where do i state that the game as a whole looks average at best for a open world game? Reading comprehension....

You keep saying "read first" and "reading comprehension" but clearly these are abilities you lack.

Observe this heavy exaggeration.

Every game ever made looks better than Y game (i would have used X as the variable but ya know lawlz)

But hey i didnt say the game looked bad, i didnt SAY those words specifically!

But you would be and idiot not to assume thats the connotation.

Ask me again when Sony and Microsoft reveal their new tech. Perfect Dark Zero looked amazing back in 2005.

These look like current generation console games with well executed art direction.

How quickly GAF forgets Wall Guy.

Perfect Dark Zero was derided for its visual jankiness.

But is it real-time, and does it affect shadow casting?

There really doesn't seem to be much in the way of shadows in X, anyways.

On par with 360/PS3/ The art style used in Yoshi looks great.

I agree.

I still think it's amazing to finally get nintendo games in HD so i personally don't care if it's on par visually with ps3/xbox 360 or slightly better because we can finally get first party nintendo titles in amazing graphics.

Not defending the guy but so far the environment of X is empty and bland. Not saying that wont change for the final game.

Edit: Sorry "looks" empty and bland.

That's not enough, if anything that's the minumim a new expensive console from 2012 should do.

We're not debating whether the game looks next gen or not. We're debating if it looks better than RDR, and it does. By a lot.

TUROK said:

I don't know why we'd expect otherwise, given Xenoblade did. If you really think there's a chance this game won't include either of those features...then I don't know what to say.
