Trine 2 Wii U: Patch now live (at least in EU)

axisofweevils

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Lock if old. Thought this deserved a thread of its own.

Just loaded up Trine 2 on my Wii U and the long awaited patch started downloading. The game certainly looks a lot better now.

Apparently, the patch corrects gamma, adds German voice acting, adds pro controller support and voice chat options.

Is this the patch that enables the Pro Controller? Because my friends hated playing with the Wii Remotes for this game.

Now if they could only fix the gamma on Netflix.

Yep, supposedly so. It has definitely added Voice Chat options in the menu.

Where does it say enhancements?

They're "tweaking" the gamma, yes.

I either misread or misquoted the wrong person because that's not what I thought I was replying to at all.

Either way, my bad. I'm in the wrong here, don't worry.

EDIT: I thought you had quoted VGChampion re: controllers and were telling him that wasn't being added, just gamma fixes. Yeah I don't know how I made that mistake either.

I really don't know how no one at netflix noticed this. I wrote to the twitter CS account and they had no idea what I was talking about.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has noticed it. It's terrible.

What is there Twitter CS account. I'd like to voice my concern as well.

I was gonna pick this up but after missing the sale I feel bad for paying a higher price then most people. its a bad and unhealthy attitude I know. Think the game is worth the full asking price? I think its £13.99 now?

It downloaded and errored out for me. I'll give it another go today but I'm pretty done with Trine 2. As much as I like the main game, the expansion levels aren't doing much for me.

it's the best version of the game. Being able to switch between sticks and touchscreen gives it a control advantage over the other platforms, and it runs nicely. They did a superb job on it.

Updated. Version is 1.2.0 now. DL takes around 10 minutes.

Couldn't check the gamma stuff yet, but there are some Voice Chat options.

This and The Cave will burn my Wii U co-oply during the weekend :D

Joel from Frozenbyte here - we're having some network trouble and our PR plans are a bit messed up because of that right now, so I will paraphrase the important bits:

- Update released in Europe
- Australia & New Zealand release date set to January 31 (Thursday)
- Australia & New Zealand launch discount and other details to be announced next week

Update contents: The update includes support for the Wii U Pro Controller, Voice Chat for online multiplayer, German vocals, improved graphics rendering and a bunch of minor gameplay features and fixes.

North American update is coming "soon" - we'll have to wait and see how long that turns out to be, but I'm reasonably hopeful it won't be too long now either.

So there we go. Sorry again for the long delay with the update and also AU&NZ release, it's taken way longer than we were anticipating, but at least it's the home stretch now! We're very interested to hear feedback on the update, the graphics alone should elicit some comments. :) (Although I'm sure that such a drastic change may also get some negative feedback - in that case try turning the Brightness sliders all the way to the right.)

Did you make the game look crisper on the GamePad? Either that or it's the new scenery I'm in that feels this way.

I don't know what they did exactly but the game looks noticeably better now. BTW, I have in fact only played it on the gamepad so far with the update (I was sort of watching tv too)

I've only checked out the update on the u gamepad screen. Thanks guys, the colours are much improved, not too bright either. I can make out details in the background I couldn't see on the gamepad before. BTW I checked out the eshop screenshots of Trine 2 and they are grabs from the PC/Wii U or whatever but viewed on the gamepad screen they are notably more colourful. than the actual game running on the upad screen. So it appears the problem with the upad colour loss has to do with the way the info is streamed between console and screen, inherently the screen is capable of better colours.

I hope developers tweak the upad settings to make offscreen play more colourful.

Still, as I said, your update makes things look much better in offscreen play, thanks so much.

They told me it was the first they've heard about it, and asked me to call in to report it. So I did, and the CSR didn't even know what a Wii U was. Lol

Voice chat, multi controllers support, all DLC included, Off TV with added touchscreen features, graphics optimization...

THIS is how you port a game on Wii U,

Joel you guys are awesome. Just tried the game out on the hdtv, I thought it was too dark then changed the brightness. I was worried that doing this would ruin the upad screen colours, then noticed that you could adjust the brightness separately for both. I turned up the brightness on the hdtv slider and down on the upad screen - which really brought out the colours on the small screen. It looks great now.

This gamma pass thing you changed, do you think other launch games have the same problem and is this part of the reason some games have bad colour representation on the upad screen?

I would like to purchase and play the original Trine on my Wii U. Is there any chance of that being a possibility in the near future?

The game already looked really good to me, but hey, I won't complain if they want to further enhance the graphics.

I asked the same question in the original OT. Joel said it'd be too much effort to port the original Trine to their current engine, and FB have moved on. So no.

Hard to say really - but it wouldn't be a huge surprise if some of them did, although it's not a specific thing for the GamePad, for us it affected all rendering and was more visible on the TV (imho).

Yeah as mentioned above, it's unlikely. Trine 1 is based on our older technology, so something like this would be quite a bit of work. Who knows what happens in the future but we're not working on any Trine 1 related things at the moment, and have no plans either. Sorry!

Is the voice chat only possible using a headset?
You can also use the Wii U GamePad mic.

Thanks guys. :)

Imagining that conversation cracked me up.

"Sir, what is that?"
Had this happen to me with the GameCube in a local store once, when I was looking to buy one (around the RE4 release).
"Do you happen to have a GameCube?"
"What is that?"
"It's like a PlayStation, but from Nintendo."
"We have the GameBoy." (can't remember if he meant GBA or DS)
