VGleaks: Orbis Unveiled! [Updated]

Nothing, except going against how competing consoles have been made up until this point. I didn't say bad, just weird. I am sure MS and Sony are thrilled to cut their R&D budget this time around.

I see. I agree with you, it's a weird decision, but yeah, as you say, trying to make these consoles as cheap as possible to maximize profits probably lead them to this.

We're obviously on different wavelengths with what were talking about here.

And I'm on my iPad. So long posts are pretty laborious.

We'll agree to disagree on this.

But wow, you got kinda heated about it all for no reason. "Clueless" and "confused"

Console launches bring out the best in everyone...

they also bring out clueless posters.

Go back and read what I posted. Also, if this updated spec sheet is right then neither has BDXL.

Yup. Is ridiculous.

Going to be a horror show. If they have to have installs I would rather they had 10x available, even if it's temporarily loud.

I don't think you really want a 10x BR drive. 10x BR spinning is like a 32x DVD drive man. (guestimate, I didn't do the math) in terms of rotational speed

Shit will sound like a .50 cal minigun

that was 2 months ago how did you get nearly a year out of that?

being from the UK, I'm used to day / month / year. so I naturally assumed it was in that format, forgetting that it might be the backwards american format of month / day / year.

You should play the Arkam game with Physx, when done right it adds a pretty good layer of realness.

The more i read his posts the more it appears he's talking out of his buttocks. Nvidia has been focussing heavily on GPGPU/parallel processing (of which physx is a product) only they've redirected that effort more towards their HPC range (which is actually just their standard cards with the display ports removed and a few slight modifications to make them even more GPGPU focussed). There's far more money to be made in the HPC market. Did i mention Tesla cards cost more the four times their standard kepler counterparts...

AMD have multiple teams for the GPUs and cpu. The CPU is x86 so I think they can only do so much due to the way intel holds the rights to x86.
.

Like above he refers to AMD having some issue with the main x86 rights being owned by Intel. In reality computers with a common instruction set can still have vastly different microarchitectures

Those specs are UNACCEPTABLE!

They're underwhelming in the year 2013. What the hell will they be 7 years from now?

There better some secret sauce we don't know about and plenty of it.

1.8 teraflops? It's for the birds, ladies and gentlemen!

I really want to see their new [fantasy] IP.

As long as it has guns and Gunplay similar to KZ2 im there.

Nvidia PsyhX is just shadow of what Ageia PsyhX hardware cards did at no FPS cost.

I love that Sony directed those 4CU for such things. I wanted it for years since Ageia downfall.

There isn't a 4k physical media standard as of yet... They could always add it to the PS4Slim in three years... BDXL drives will be cheaper and 4k screens will also be a hell of a lot cheaper...

BDXL drives are already as cheap as they need to be, and there's no reason for the BDXL format to not be granted the "4K" format going forward since the 4K movies Sony has been showcasing on their network media player have all been well under 100GB in file size.

Hmm so sounds like Orbis and Durango should be fairly close in specs but I wonder if one will have the superior versions of most multiplatform titles like 360 did early on.

I'll bet it will be the one with a faster GPU and RAM

Soo what will the games look like?

Seriously, can someone please post a pic or video of a game running on a comparable pc?

This is so frustrating for the more technically challenged. I just want to know I won't be gimping myself for going with Orbis.

I can't see how. Popular opinion is pretty unanimous that Orbis is the stronger console, tech wise.

Since it's using off the shelf parts instead of exotic custom chips like the PS3 and PS2, it won't be anywhere near as hard to program for either- that was the big advantage the 360 had over the PS3 at launch.

It really doesn't appear as such... but why would you be even thinking of those sorts of decisions right now? We'll know pretty much all there is to know about both consoles before they're available to buy (including, most importantly, their games).

I'm gonna swing this towards the Xbox largely due to development environment, portability, etc.

It's looking similar to this past gen. Games made exclusively for either console will be awesome, PS4 might have an edge, cross platform will be fine. Kinda like how Gears looks great on 360, but Last of Us on the PS3 has just a little more ooomph to it.

Looking like real world wise both consoles will compete nicely.

We are good 8 months minimum away. You can't buy either, by they time you can you'll have plenty of concrete info. And you can always wait for shortly after launch and see the hardcore strip downs of the systems.

But who am I going to cheer or jeer in the meantime?

I have been saying this shit for the LAST THREE Pages. Durango just got weaker on paper.

Thuway how recent do you think this change was implemented? Is it some last minute move? Is this something which you came to know of only now and not told to you earlier in the year?

Is there a reason why Orbis will have a faster drive than Durango? Seems like such an off the shelve part.

Maybe one of their main goals was to build a system that doesn't scratch the discs anymore when the console is moved slightly? This at least would be a real novelty for the Xbox brand.

Worth every penny.

You are so wrong, you have no idea. Proelite has been on top of his shit from the get go. -_-

It seems Xbox fans are desperate in getting any sort of edge on Playstation, and PC fans are attempting to call both machines shit. Fuck is wrong with you GAF >.<

I can't play Uncharted and many other awesome games on my PC. Sure PC has games not on the PS3 either but I'm not bashing the PC.

But Durango seems to possess a special compute module, isn't it?

Durango has special sauce. I've heard nothing about Durango being any sort of a compute monster. Microsoft's machine is designed around efficiency, profit, and bang for the size. It is pretty obvious what is going on with Orbis. 4 CU's for compute is fucking amazeballs.

The current specs, on paper, show that Durango is weaker overall. However, I will agree with ProElite that it will have a slightly better edge in triangle/vertices drawing power.

Specs look good, I just hope there is an option for users to install their own drives and a benefit from wanting to pop an SSD in there. Might not be 100% worth it right when it comes out but I'd totally throw one in if there was a option sometime down the road.

Mainly because proelite seems to think Durango is stronger.

Thanks for your input.

Wasn't there an rumored important key component that left out of the last Durango VGLeaks story? Perhaps what may help performance?
