VGleaks: Orbis Unveiled! [Updated]

I don't see that as "wishful thinking" at all, though. That would be a horrendous price to launch at. We'd have another PS3 launch.

Wishful thinking applies to both side of the fanboy war. Microsoft fans wishing "lol Sony's gonna mess up the price again." And Sony fans wishing "LOL Microsoft is running scared now because of these specs we don't comprehend". I like the rumor topics, but they almost always devolve into this crap. Part of the fun of new hardware releases. Just ratcheting up to an amazing E3.

Is GDDR5 actually "confirmed"? Even these specs don't list the RAM type. I trust the bandwidth but I thought there was a possibility of stacked DDR3 providing the same?

There is still that possibility. Stacked would be better actually I think, but I'm not entirely sure. Maybe it's not confirmed because Sony is still holding out for stacked, who knows.

Mainly because proelite seems to think Durango is stronger.

He's been saying that for a while. But if he doesn't know more about Orbis than anyone else not under NDA, (already demonstrated) how would he know which is stronger ? So in light of these leaks, I don't put much stock in proelite's long held belief that durango will be stronger.

Something I'd like to add that I thought was quite funny the more I thought about it...

What I find hilarious, is the fact Sony cant RESIST going exotic somehow with their architecture is their systems. Even when it sounded like they couldn't have gone any more simple than this(unified memory, high bandwidth gddr5, x86, ect) they find a way to make it complex that programmers will still have to work to get the most out of the system. I could still some multiplatform devs not taking full advantage of this set up, just like they did in the past with the SPU's on PS3.

I swear Sony is like the alcoholic beer drinker, whos trying to quit, and may quit for a few months at time, but when they walk past that bar they cant resist and need that beer cause its in their DNA. It's in Sony's DNA to design exotic hardware.
(im sure theres a better analogy to come up with, but you get the idea)

I think Sony finalized specs and then took the info to KenK and said "you get one and ONLY one modification. What will it be". And so he performed his magic on the Cus.

Nope. He would've squeezed a Cell in for every Jaguar core. Cell>Jaguar.

Dragonball backs me up on that.

You could have tri SLI 680 levels of triangle setup, but if you don't have enough computation to actually get the vertices and pixels through the whole pipeline, it doesn't do you any good.

Sure.

Orbis's GPU is completely 'normal' in terms of triangle setup. Same 2 primitive pipelines with 1 triangle/vertex per clock as seems typical of GCN chips. Even AMD's huge 4 teraflop cards don't use more pipelines AFAIK (though they're higher clocked).

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
Closed box efficiencies simply won't make up for these discrepancies.

Orbis would likely run a version that is cut back from 60fps to 30fps and 8xMSAA to 2xMSAA.
Here's the thing though - noone is going to make a PC game (for a good while yet) that only runs at 30FPS in 720p on GTX680. Whatever game is made for PC, it will run probably at a minimum of 50FPS in 1080p on 680GTX.

On a console however, you don't absolutely have to have game running at that rate, so you could have a 30FPS game that runs in 1280x1080 (or dynamic 1280-1920x1080) where everything else looks the same. So you'd still have that "680" looking game on a weaker hardware, and that's before any closed box efficiencies even take place.

I always wondered why, when i'd shoot the helmet of a helghast he'd be bald. I thought it was in their genetic make up...lol

hair simply cannot exist in space, unless you're in a jrpg in which case physics work different when it comes to follicle growth in Japan.

Can someone explain why anyone takes thruway or proelite seriously?

Thruway changes his opinion daily based purely on rumors he sees on Neogaf. The guy is obviously not in the know.

Orbis will definitely be able to handle the demo at 720p-1080p 30fps with AA turned down to 2xMSAA + FXAA. The other poster was claiming that these specs would allow the demo to perform on Orbis at the same fidelity we saw it running on the GTX680.

Lets see if i can figure this out gaf

By the time it will be shown again it will have had an extra year of optimization...somethings could look even better for all we know. There always seems to be the assumption that these demos are taxing the 680 to the nth degree...maybe they are, they are demos, and not all that optimized when they were first shown. No game so far though, not even Crysis 3 is really designed primarily to ring the most out of the most powerful cards on the market. These gpus are overkill at the moment...

People were getting banned in other threads for doing this. Here's hoping it makes a comeback here.

Lherre, Thuway, proelite, who cares about these guys.

I want to know what Crazy Buttocks On A Train has to say about these specs.

It surely beats the back and forth of whose rumir is right, and whose rumor 3 months ago is less accurate than that other rumor. Its like tween gossiping girls here... Except more nerdy

We have moved onto to Full House comparisons now? I can't wait for the Keeping Up With the Kardashians and Jersey Shore lists.......

Here we go again.
Yeah like the samaritan "optimisation"
Guys guys, we halved the resolution and turned off MSAA (ue3 shits itself when trying to do MSAA so it requires several times the performance) to end up with some low res blurry shadow of the original. Our marketing VP said we should call it 'optimamisation'

At least luminous engine seems far more capable than UE since it can do 8x msaa without the horrible performance hit that ue3 gets. (still 60 fps on a single gtx 680).
I could try tears of joy when I saw the msaa works on the hair etc.

But this doesn't suggest that console hardware has an immense performance advantage over similar PC components. Lower display resolution, lower resolution textures, narrower FOV, etc. aren't exclusive to consoles. If your intention is to replicate the console experience on your PC, then you just need to lower the graphics options to console equivalent settings.

I wonder what kind of FPS DMC would get on a gtx 680 if you turned the resolution down to 720p and lowered the texture quality and shadow res to console settings and turned off AF etc. Probably 400 fps instead of 300. Better patent this brilliant console optimisation method of lowering the resolution and settings before Nvidia and Amd think of it and use it on PC.

Didn't this end up being bannable in the last thread.

On topic, do they separate CUs [14 +4], and then still add up the 18 texture units + 8 Render backends?

Yes, because when you compare Danny to Jesse, Danny had absolutely no game.

Well the mods have vouched for Thuway and Thuway has vouched for proelite.

I think it's all a mess because the people who are running VGLeaks could be posting here or passing info on to posters here.

At least that what seems like to me looking in from the outside. *shrug*

I don't understand this "14+4" idea yet. Unless there are some hardware customizations for those 4 CUs, I don't see the point in fixing the distribution to some specific scheme, since it would be more efficient to let each game make its own decisions.

So I'd assume that there are in fact some hardware customizations for those 4 CUs. Then the question centers on whether they are "upgrades", "downgrades" or simply "sidegrades" compared to normal, graphics-focused CUs.

What does it mean " “extra” ALU as resource for compute" Does this means each one was modified and has a total of 2 ALU's? cause it before each one already had 1 ALU.

Can you imagine employees of Sony and Microsoft's hardware divisions reading these threads, all giddy with excitement for what they actually know. Dying to be able to slander each others hardware ... all while never been allowed to say a word!

Must be pretty painful. Especially if assumptions are incredibly wrong or underestimated.

Just out of sheer curiousity (and my ignorance), in what percentage have they been proven right?

A lot of times this type of info looks like someone with a small piece of info took it and made reasonable assumptiins, guesstimations

Kind of disappointed in this update. VGLeaks really didn't tell us anything we didn't know.

I'd like to know more about the evolved dual shock controller. Exactly how is it evolved?

But seriously, hopefully a split controller that utilizes the tech they invested money into for the Move.

VGLeaks looks like they simply did a rumor roundup of forum discussion the past week and posted it as "NEW LEAK LOL" today. That's what I'm seeing.

All I know is I think everyone will be happy with Orbango and what they bring to the table.
