Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's dge |OT| I guess that's what it means to be a ninja

This game reminds me a lot of Sonic Adventure 2. The main gameplay type is fun (combat with regular enemies), but it's punctuated by horrible gameplay (boss battles, "cinematic" fluff, wizards). Their stories both seem to be oblivious to how ridiculous the game actually is. The dinosaur boss even does his imitation of the truck chase.

They only get worse, too. Try to find an exploit.

For Regent of the Mask only used the quick attacks, for the wizards later on I only use charged attacks. Poking bosses with an attack and then dashing away works pretty well too.

shit, I'm an idiot for not picking up the copy I saw on launch day. Was thinking its price would drop, but apparently Nintendo barely produced any copies. No one has it around here, nor on the internet. Doesn't help that my country shares Amazon with Germany where the game isn't released. Seems like UK is kinda bad either, zavvi says they don't have it until May :lol
No way I'm getting this digital, gotta have the option to sell this if the bad aspects ruin the game for me too much. :/

Wow the boss fights are shit. I can't even beat the masked guy on Day 1.

Regent has a pretty big opening at the end of his primary combo slash string where you can dash in and get like a YYYYX combo on him or some such. That whittles him down at a reasonable rate.

Finished this with Ryu and Kasumi now. Love it, but man, the last boss fight is beyond shit. Thank goodness it's taken out of chapter challenge.

I love how Kasumi plays. It's exactly what I'd hoped for, and not at all what I expected.

I already beat this game on 360, but I just bought a Wii-U. This will be the first Wii-U game I play, welcome me Razor's Edge GAF.

Welcome!

You beat vanilla NG3 so the best piece of advice I could give you is forget everything you remember about that POS and get ready to play the greatest facsimile of a Ninja Gaiden game yet. It so close and yet miles apart from being a true Ninja Gaiden game (because of design choices left over from the original) that you get glimpses of what could have been.

The changes are more then enough to warrant the purchase and Kasumi is one if the best DLC's I've ever played.

Addition of chapter challenges really was nice as well as the scarabs and tests of valor.

Hope you have fun with it!

This game is shit. Fucking Day 2 is impossible.

EDIT: Day 2 is highly improbable.

If you're failing on Day 2, it really is because you're not familiar enough with the game. There are couple of moments later on which are actual BS, but Day 2 is very straightforward.

That sounds splendid, thanks.

It really isn't. This game wasn't very difficult at all. :/

What section are you getting stuck at?

This! It's the DmC of Ninja Gaiden. haha :p

I actually love DmC, it is my favorite Devil May Cry game by far. I ha no interest in it at all until I played the demo but I was blown away and decided to get it.

Ninja Trials have online coop. I think it has local coop as well.

This game is shit. Fucking Day 2 is impossible.

EDIT: Day 2 is highly improbable.

What are you having trouble with? If it's the regular enemies, you just need to learn how to deal with them. Attack the ranged enemies first (they die in one hit and the bow always locks on to them first). Then dodge a lot and counterattack if possible. For armoured enemies try using an Ultimate Technique to break their guard.

Day 2 is giving me problems too. Guy shoots multi-rockets, jump off, stab a guy, kill ranged guys, fight off the rest. Repeat. Health is now pulsing, and oh look! Motorcycle fucking guys.

WHY CAN'T I USE NINPO TO REGEN? Ninpo hasn't been available to me since right before the first save point of day 1.

What's the deal?

The Test of Valor, is it just a survival thing or is their an end to it? Do I get a reward based on how long I survive or do I get nothing for surviving and then dying?

Is the lagging in framerate just the game itself or can I alleviate this by installing this to the HDD?

You can use Ki to heal either through meditation (which is initially locked) or hitting enemies with Ninpo. Against ranged guys and motorcycles: try dashing to the side, quickly aiming the bow and firing, then dashing again.

Each Test of Valour does have a boss. I don't know what happens if you kill the boss.

Beat the game. I honestly can't think of a game with worse bosses right now, but I liked it. Probably would have been better to stick to Ninja Trials.

Had a severe bug at the last level. The boss has an attack that creates a circle on the ground. He just kept up that attack. The game gradually slowed down to a small fraction of its original speed. Eventually the system froze. I previously had a bug that forced me to reset, but this forced me to unplug the system.

I'm also thinking that there are hints towards new playable characters: maybe in new DLC, Sigma 3, or Ninja Gaiden 4. In day 8,
Regent fights alongside Ryu. Not only is he a combat-capable NPC like Momiji, but he has a much faster movement speed than Ryu. Since he moves ahead of you anyway, it seems kind of unnecessary for him to have a different speed if he's just showing you the way.

The other is a little silly: the controller shake works on Mizuki. I've so far only seen that with player characters and her. Maybe I wasn't testing it enough.

If you kill the boss in the missions you just get a nice karma bonus on top of whatever you racked up during the mission. It doesn't seem to give you anything else but I don't think I've killed every mssion boss so maybe there's an unlockable for beating them all.

Finally got my copy of this game. Here are my quick impressions after completing Day 1 on Hard difficulty.

- This game is initially harder than vanilla Ninja Gaiden 3 on PS360. The reason is that on the vanilla version all skills and techniques are available from the start of the game. On this we have the Karma point system where you have to buy Weapon upgrades and techniques. I wasn't aware of this. I was trying my Izuna Drop and it wasn't there.

- Enemies are spread out a bit more in this. Helmet grunts are introduced later than I was expecting.

- Tests of Valour are completely new and actually a good idea. I like them. Collect a crystal skull and get transported to an arena to fight enemies for Karma. Spend Karma on upgrades.

- They changed the vertical writing on the main menu screen

- More Save points in this version.

The Tests of Valour are harder than the rest of the stages (except maybe Ninja Trials, haven't tried many of them). I think they're geared towards having maxed out weapons.

Day 2 - Ayane has the easiest one by far. Use the Eclipse Scythe and it ends quickly.

What the hell did they do to Alma?
I beat her without taking damage, and I doubt it was because of my incredible evading skillz.

She constantly used that diving kick, and got hit by my flying swallow nearly every time when she was on the ground.

OMFG can't beat the FIRST test of valor.
Ninja Gaiden is back, bitches... waaaaay better than the PS360 version.

I completely disagree. Doku was dumbed down - his moves are transparent and telegraphed.

The game is decent but not an NG game. It's close but not quite. The gameplay balance is missing and certain weapons are far more overpowered then others.

Again - good for the source material but not an NG game.

My take is a single opinion - no everyone will agree.

If you play NG3:RE and the go back to NGS (or NGB depending on your system of choice) the games are night and day. Even NGS2 (or NG2) is such a different style of game it's hard to make a comparison.

Truth be told I can rack up a 500+ hit combo in NG3:RE but will never come close to that in any of the previous games.

I have always felt that Hero mode seriously changed the core mechanic into a button masher rather then anything with finesse, timing or skill. Razor's Edge tried to change that, however, the Hero mechanic I believe was written into the code from the start, which ultimately hindered the gameplay overall.

My 0.02$ on the game - I fully expect backlash and people not to agree with me.

After playing with the combat system for awhile and then going back to NGS, I gotta agree. Mindless offense and button mashing seem more encouraged, especially with steel on bone.

The enemies seem to dodge and block less, use attacks that leave them open more frequently, and rarely react to your attacks/movements (like using anti-air attacks when you're in midair).

I've been missing flying swallows and even attacks much more then I ever had in a previous game of the series. Despite that, the game overall feels much easier then the previous ones.

Thinking about getting a Wii U, just checking some games...

does this game support off TV gameplay (gamepad play whatever you call it)

Got this yesterday. Played through Day 1 and until the second checkpoint of Day 2. So far, it's lots of fun. Not sure if I play on the right difficulty though. I guess Hero is an easy mode? I picked Normal, but Hero doesn't sound like ,,easy'' and the description is useless too.

Yeah, Hero is easy. It's a strange name for it, but that's what it is. I'm not sure how much easier it is, though, since I never touched it. I played through the whole game on Normal. I had a bit of trouble in some spots, but I kept pressing on and eventually got through them. It's easier than the earlier games.

Yeah, I just wanted to be sure that normal isn't the easy route (I remember Metroid Prime 3 doing that). I've died quite a bit in certain places, but it isn't frustrating (yet).

Also, no framerote drops either. (yet)

Definitely getting the release for 360, should be great. Skipped on vanilla despite NGB being my favorite action game ever.

Supposedly the PS360 costumes will be coming to the Wii U. Specifically, there's be a free update in February. Can't read it for myself so I can't confirm it.

I think I've finally reach my limit with the game. It's simply becoming to hard to keep hitting the buttons at the frequency I need to in order to dodge and block enough to get through encounters. I'm on Day 7 and just about to clear the
second boat
. No idea how far I'm from the end but I really want to just stop playing now. I love the action, like controlling Ayane more then Ryu to be honest but both are satisfying, but actually producing the action is becoming harder and harder. :( This has got to be the hardest action game I've ever played too.

It's starting to make me worry about Bayonetta 2. I haven't played the first one and the only other game I can compare to is Devil May Cry and from what I remember that game has nothing on NG3:RE on difficulty and even punishment on the hands while playing. For those that played Bayonetta 1. Which of the two games is it closer to when it comes to actually controlling the game with a controller?

As for finishing NG3:RE I think I'm going to leave the game at the save point I stopped at. Maybe watch the rest on youtube. Everything else is unlocked thanks to one of the updates so I can always go back and do the other content with the other characters. I don't think I could (well my hands) take another boss fight at the moment.

You've got one chapter left.

I'm also on Day 7 and the boss was the first thing to piss me off to no end. Usually, I didn't mind trying them over and over again, just because I could come up with strategies or learn their behaviour. Now that asshole is just annoying with pulling these fatal grabbing attacks out of fucking nowhere, often literally no chance to dogde.

I'm also almost completely new to this series and I only found the bosses to be really hard (and on Day 7 & 3 actually a little unfair), the rest of the game isn't too bad even though I die from time to time. These are also the only things probably preventing me from doing chapter challenges or the hard difficulty, even if the bosses didn't frustrate me, they sometimes took me like half an hour. (What happens if you change to hero? I was close changing to that at almost every boss, lol)

Have you upgraded your weapons and Ninpo? Lunar Staff and Eclipse Scythe are good, Wind Blades is good for healing. You can also pause and turn the difficulty down to Hero with no penalty at all.

I found Chapter Challenge to be a lot better. Maybe it's upgraded weapons, maybe it's familiarity with the horrible bosses, maybe it was searching for Crystal Skulls to unlock costumes.

I had the same experience (though I played the first NES game, for what it's worth). The game generally doesn't really throw anything at you that you can't deal with. But the bosses just seem to be poorly made in order to claim difficulty.

Oh, in case anyone missed the other thread. 25 new Ninja Trials for the update (5 per difficulty). Realized Nightmare costume only available if you have the original NG3.

What do you mean original? This is a WiiU exclusive until the first week in April 2013.

It's already been announced that the WiiU version will be getting all of the new costumes sometime this month...

I didn't mind most of them even when they were hard. Day 3 pissed me off because you don't heal before the fight, so I literally couldn't take more than 1 hit during the whole thing. And Day 7 as stated above. At first I thought it had the easiest boss in the whole game (transformer dad), but then they throw that asshole at you again, updated with shitty fatal attacks.

The difficulty isn't my issue. It's when the boss gets super armor during my combo, when they're constantly carpet bombing me regardless of what I've done, or when hitting the enemy with a heavy attack from behind triggers their grab instead of countering it.

What do you mean original? This is a WiiU exclusive until the first week in April 2013.

By "original" I mean "not on Wii U". Look at the link I posted above. Hayabusa gets an extra costume (益荒男) along with the girls, but there's no picture of him in the Epigonos skin (リアライズドナイトメア) on the Wii U page. That only appears on the PS360 page. It's also got a disclaimer:

Code:
※前作「NINJA GAIDEN 3」のシステムセーブデータをお持ちの方限定で、
使用できるコスチュームです。

Though, again, I'm trying to interpret a language that I do not know. I may be wrong.
