and also Lego Friends, guys you must embrace the pink brick love

Huh, placed an Amazon order for the Power Mech earlier for the MOC contest (despite never doing a MOC since I was like... 10)
So, any ideas or tips or whatever for a pretty much first time MOC builder? I like spaceships, so maybe I'll see what sort of ship I can make.

just enjoy building at random, then you'll recognize something cool from what you're doing.
otherwise, just think of something you want to do (recognizable spaceship etc...) and try to get results with the bricks you have to use

Question: How big is the Fire Brigade? I might buy new shelves this weekend and it would be annoying if it didn't fit. Height, width and depth, please.

Luckily my husband had this built and I haven't broken it down yet. I was using the modulars sizes as a example for my MOC.

The Fire Brigade is 42ish high (normal block count, aka 3x thin tile = 1 normal block height), what threw me off was the bell tower, the unique piece. I didn't really accurately count but I'd let you to estimate more than 42 bricks just to be safe. Its shorter than the Townhall for sure.

Width and length is pretty simple since basing off of its base plates which were typically 16x16 and FB and the PetShop uses 2 32x16 plates. So width and length for all of these modulars were 32 by 32.

Posted yet? Not a big fan myself, looks incredibly juniorised with all the big wall panels. Think i'll stick with the LOTR/Hobbit sets for my castle interests!

Doesn't seem "juniorised" (wait thats not even a word) to me. Traditional Castle sets from my childhood had tons of large panels.

But what it does lack is an awesome molded base plate, damn it!

It's not "juniorised" compared to previous Castle sets. In fact, it looks pretty similar to the previous Kingdoms castle - so much so that it looks like they may even be compatible. Helms Deep is targeted towards an older audience (they say 10-14, but let's be honest, it's for 30-somethings).

I saw that yacht and it does look fantastic. I just hope it lends itself to a lot of secondary uses. That's one thing I don't like about Castle/Kingdom sets, they don't offer a whole lot of secondary uses.

Oh absolutely, compared to retro castle sets its pretty accurate to the sets that inspired it, but when the city (and more recently Galaxy Squad) sets and innovating with new techniques, bricks and builds as a whole and no longer echo-ing their predecessors it is a tad upsetting that the same isn't applied to the Castle theme as well.

Maybe we've been spoiled by the LOTR sets and modular buildings. Eitherway, less incentive to pick it up compared to again say GS or City 2013.

Still working on it obviously but here's my first WIP of Ecto-1, obviously it's missing all the doo-dads on top and the logo on the side but you get the idea. The curves and the fins are an absolute bitch to pull off, still not happy with it yet.

The grey bumpers will be chrome when the parts turn up too

Love this - very impressive so far.

How do you start something like this? Is it just a case of trial and error with a range of pieces, referring to a pic of the vehicle/whatever you're trying to build? Or do you tackle it a different way?

I really want to build something in Micro Scale for the MOC contest but I am finding that I am not quite good (horrible actually) at scaling things. The only bit that I think looks nice currently is this.

Wow the Castle stuff is hot. I had fond memories of the King's Castle from back in the day, but these look awesome.

My wallet am cry already.

Man, I will need to get that dragon for my dragon slayer to... slay.

I'm guessing Smaug will eventually be a build, otherwise it would be strange to have another custom dragon mold this close.

BOO! However, with it being a standard Creator set, that is not surprising. Harder to reuse the parts in other builds. It just seems that the garage is in every alt build of that set.

I also find it interesting that the base of the house is actually multiple large plate pieces instead of a 32x32 base plate.

Whoa! That yacht is hot looking. Also if my eyes dont deceive me, are those ship hull parts but in white? If so, this set is a must buy. Could make some badass ship MOCs with a white hull.

Droool. Still want a massive base or something. It has been too long since we got a space base.

That coast guard and those planes look great.

They do, but sadly the nose of the plane is one giant piece.

Exactly my thoughts on that kit - if those are white hull parts then that would be huge - a definite buy in that case.

Looking closer at the pic, those are definitely white hull parts. You can see the seams from the mid sections, and the slope of bricks at the front center lines up with regular ship parts. The only downside is it does not come with pieces for making masts.

I see that set becoming very popular with the ship fans just because of that. That opens up a lot of neat possibilities, because all we have ever gotten before was brown and black, right? There were no grey ships as far as I can tell.

These leaks from Nuremberg are just the tip of the iceberg. Next weekend (Feb 9th) is the motherload, when we'll be getting a ton of images of all themes and videos as well.

AFAIK, all we have gotten in the past was black, dark-brown and reddish-brown.

This set seems to have tan coloured masts.

You hit the nail on the head. We're all looking at it from perspective of the older crowd. Hobbit and LoTR fills that demographic so IMO these are definitely geared towards the younger crowd or nostalgia crowd with simpler blocky look.

I can't afford multiple themes stop it LEGO! These sets look great, but pricey. Loving the little bug scorpion thing and brick built centipede.

EDIT: Just saw someone post that may be one set. That would be a must get. Probably the > $100 set.
EDIT 2: Nvm, they are probably 2 sets. Prices and names are here: http://thebrickblogger.com/2013/01/summer-2013-lego-sets/

Has anybody had this happen? I just noticed it on the side of my Minecraft set.

Only in my childhood LEGO from much abuse. LEGO will most likely replace those. Customer service is great. A bit worrisome on LEGO quality though since those are new pieces, but tile pieces are one of the weaker ones especially in that area.

Just in time, I was looking at the dragon in the aftermarket and it's pricey. I'll get whatever set that's in.

Gorillas!

Oh man...can't wait for the other Chima animals. Not feeling the mech...definitely conveys strength and bulk of gorilla though.

EDIT: Just noticed the banana ammo belt. Nice touch.

Fuck the Quinjet is 43% off on some Amazon site :( i managed to avoid it until now since i am not a fan (as some of you know lol) but THIS.... this now might just be my gateway into Marvel Superheroes of which i own none yet.

edit: Is Black Widow still exclusive to the Quinjet set at least?
