So if this really is going to be an unveiling of the PS4, they're going to have to have to show something off on the hardware right? How long have 3rd parties had hardware to develop on? How far along could everyone possibly be on development?

Probably since late 2011 for the top few third parties and mid 2012 for others?

If it is what ive been told it is... MEGATON

Are you implying this isn't what we think it is? Because if its PS4, it's not nessesarly a MEGATON. I mean MEGATONS have to be something thats a complete surprise that we didn't see coming.

i.e. Vita and PS3 pricedrop which probably has a 90% chance of happening, is not a megaton. PS4 announcment is what we all think it is, it would be a bigger surprise for it not to be announced. The only way I could see the PS4 being a megaton announement is if completely different from what we think it is. The console itself. As in, it doesn't play games, but instead its a time machine FROM the future.

or more realistically PS4 being announced as the FIRST digitally distrubted console ever, would be a megaton. But no if its just PS4, with the specs the rumor suggests, then no megaton.

I know you guys hate Pachter but...

Well, it's jinxed now. Everybody, go home.

Or, you throw a bunch of darts at the wall and something will eventually hit the spot.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
When the VG leak said Orbis would be unveiled in a matter of weeks, not months, I thought it was bullshit. Looks like they were right. It's about to go down!

...At this point, let's post the Orbis specs according to VGL again

LIVERPOOL SOC

Custom implementation of AMD Fusion APU Arquitecture (Accelerated Processing Unit)
Provides good performance with low power consumtion
Integrated CPU and GPU
Considerably bigger and more powerful than AMD’s other APUs

PU:

Orbis contains eight Jaguar cores at 1.6 Ghz, arranged as two “clusters”
Each cluster contains 4 cores and a shared 2MB L2 cache
256-bit SIMD operations, 128-bit SIMD ALU
SSE up to SSE4, as well as Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX)
One hardware thread per core
Decodes, executes and retires at up to two intructions/cycle
Out of order execution
Per-core dedicated L1-I and L1-D cache (32Kb each)
Two pipes per core yield 12,8 GFlops performance
102.4 GFlops for system

GPU:

GPU is based on AMD’s “R10XX” (Southern Islands) architecture
DirectX 11.1+ feature set
Liverpool is an enhanced version of the architecture
18 Compute Units (CUs)
Hardware balanced at 14 CUs
Shared 512 KB of read/write L2 cache
800 Mhz
1.843 Tflops, 922 GigaOps/s
Dual shader engines
18 texture units
8 Render backends

UPDATE: some people is confused about the GPU, here you have more info about it:

Each CU contains dedicated:

- ALU (32 64-bit operations per cycle)

- Texture Unit

- L1 data cache

- Local data share (LDS)

About 14 + 4 balance:

- 4 additional CUs (410 Gflops) “extra” ALU as resource for compute

- Minor boost if used for rendering

Dual Shader Engines:

- 1.6 billion triangles/s, 1.6 billion vertices/s

18 Texture units

- 56 billion bilinear texture reads/s

- Can utilize full memory bandwith

8 Render backends:

- 32 color ops/cycle

- 128 depth ops/cycle

- Can utilize full memory bandwith

Memory:

4 GB unified system memory, 176 GB/s
3.5 available to games (estimate)

Storage:

- High speed Blu-ray drive

single layer (25 GB) or dual layer (50 GB) discs
Partial constant angular velocity (PCAV)
Outer half of disc 6x (27 MB/s)
Inner half varies, 3.3x to 6x

- Internal mass storage

One SKU at launch: 500 GB HDD
There may also be a Flash drive SKU in the future

Networking:

1 Gb/s Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n WIFI, and Bluetooth

Peripherals:

Evolved Dualshock controller
Dual Camera
Move controller

Extra:

Audio Processor (ACP)
Video encode and decode (VCE/UVD) units
Display ScanOut Engine (DCE)
Zlib Decompression Hardware

What are you guys expecting Sony to show? I'm expecting Uncharted and GT for the graphics along with maybe one new IP and a big Japanese game.

I expect Evolution's racing game, Sucker Punch's new IP, Ready at Dawn's new IP, GG's game, and The Last Guardan.

Lets speculate what they will show in this event and what they will save for E3.

- Obviously PS4 hardware reveal
- Guerrilla Games new IP shown as the tech demo to show of the next gen graphics
- System OS demonstrated (expanded Livearea, Cross Game chat, multi tasking, game standby/hibernate)
- Backwards Compatability (yes I said it)
- Dualshock 4 shown off, redesigned with a new gimmick that's nothing too big of a deal and doesn't dramatically change anything)
- Move 2.0 and EyeToy 3D Camera, new motion game by MediaMolecule shown off.
- Game reel of small glimpse of Evolutions new racer, Sucker Punch's new IP and Ready at Dawns new IP.

They will save Gran Turismo 6 announcement for E3, as well as many 3rd party games and price announcements.

It's funny how every SCEWWS guy/girl on my Twitter feed is posting about this. Most of them rarely comment on PlayStation announcements.

Not sure about third parties, but some first party teams have likely been working towards PS4 titles for nearly 2 years.
