I totally agree. The other stuff is flashy in a really corny way. The sleek blue logo is far more classy and appealing.

Not really. They want to make money of PS3 at this point. who cares if they sell 10 million more units if they lose money at this point in the genration. It's about making profit. That and PS3 exotic design is expensive, so if they make profit of PS3s It is not something like 100 usd per unit.

PS4 design is such that they might break even on day 1 or make profit depending of their price point. I think you can at least one PS4 sku at 399usd/euro and one more expensive with a game and what not.
