Media Create Sales: Week 4, 2013 (Jan 21 - Jan 27)

One week after launch, Demon Gaze (PSVita) has surpassed 50,000 units in sales (retail+PSN): http://news.dengeki.com/elem/000/000/590/590492/

To celebrate the sales there will be free DLC for the next four weeks.

It's a niche game, but that's a great result. I'm really interested in knowing how well Ys: Celceta sold on PSN, as it was equally supply constrained, yet managed the best debut for Ys on Sony hardware before dropping like a rock.

It is indeed a great result - good to see they found a market on the Vita

$80 for a card game.

Jeeze Compile Heart, if your character designs didn't say "Don't buy me!" that price tag will. However, it seems Japan bought you. Bought all of you.

Do hope Demon Gaze does well, but seems like it considering how it managed to sell out on the normal amazon sales leaving the marketplace hyenas to peddle their overpriced wares. In my town it also had sold out.

Really do hope that EXP / Team Muramasa release a generation Xth game on either the PSP or VITA. Esp Meikyu Cross Blood Reloaded. Which already came out on the 360 / PC.

Demon Gaze isnt too bad of a Wizardry type dungeon crawler. Overall its pretty easy due to the demon system and generally there isnt much difficulty to the game itself besides the usual insta kill attacks from higher level enemies. Though would have been nice if they packed a little bit more content into it with the story / characters. Overall am happy with the purchase and have put in quite a bit of time with the game itself. Would say am 60% done with it.

This definitely wasn't our month, our Wii U (and hence also New Super Mario Bros. U) predictions failed miserably. It was hard to foresee a month ago that Nintendo's new console would collapsed so dramatically. Wii U sold 121.121 units during the whole month of January, the lowest the supply-constrained Wii sold in a week, during the same month after its launch, was 80.514 units.

So yes, congratulations to Rarity, the only one who made an accurate Wii U prediction (143.000).

I'm at the bottom of the list by percentage. I overestimated Fantasy Life, New Super Mario Bros. U and Wii U hardware by a 100%. Not bad hey? :p

Wow, 50k after 1 week! Clearly such games are quite profitable on the Vita, so we should get many more of them in the future.

I wouldnt say that "clearly such games are quite profitable" its more like if the quality is there the game will sell.

The company behind Demon Gaze has a lot of fans from the doujin / PC market and its no surprise that they would jump behind this title also as its something new from them. Instead of the general Generation Xth series PC / X360 or their other game which was on the PC / PSP Students of the Round.

There has been shit quality wizardry type of games which sell poorly. So its not the genre itself, its the quality / company behind it that matters more.

Surprising that they released it on the VITA since its not like the game itself really uses any features or graphical power that would make the VITA the platform of choice. Though besides that its good to see their venture on the platform paying off.

Fantastic news! Had just gotten back after being away out of town for work over a month so missed that news. Trying to play catch up with everything is killer. Damned fine news. Interesting that its CyberFront and not Kadokawa Games. Should have Demon Gaze cleared off the plate too. I also got Cross Blood Reloaded on my PC / X360 / Laptop (that exploded) just have not had the time to be playing it. Though have been a long time fan of the series and have all the other titles they have produced somewhere packed away in the cardboard boxes littering my place.

¥7,140 (Monster Monpiece's price) converted to North American money via my mental math = $80. Google tells me it's actually $77, but eh, close enough. Absurd price for a card game, lol.

I bet all that $$$ is to pay for all the VAs they used in the game lol. Though it seems to be pretty positive in terms of reception.

I dont care for the art too much so wont be picking it up, even though I like card games in general.

That and am a bit anti compile heart. lol

The first two look familiar to me but I can't recall about the last one, the HD video, that is very good indeed by the way.

I think this may be huge in Japan, and hope it can make it to come out also in the rest of the world.
What's its ranking in the Famitsu Most Wanted? No. 2?

One week after launch, Demon Gaze (PSVita) has surpassed 50,000 units in sales (retail+PSN): http://news.dengeki.com/elem/000/000/590/590492/

To celebrate the sales there will be free DLC for the next four weeks.

It's a niche game, but that's a great result. I'm really interested in knowing how well Ys: Celceta sold on PSN, as it was equally supply constrained, yet managed the best debut for Ys on Sony hardware before dropping like a rock.

Is this shipped + PSN or sold to customers + PSN?

Jeeze Compile Heart, if your character designs didn't say "Don't buy me!" that price tag will. However, it seems Japan bought you. Bought all of you.

Actually, I think a high price point for Vita titles in a good strategy. Persona and Miku were at 7329 yen. If Vita users aren't so price-sensitive about high quality hardcore-oriented games, then it makes sense to offset the lower sales with a higher price.

The doomsaying for Wii U is getting out-of-hand when someone legitimately thinks that NSMBU won't sell 2m in the end.

I realize that basing it off of percentages dealing with the 3DS is probably not useful considering NSMBW didn't follow NSMB's trajectory, but how much exactly do you expect Wii U to sell in the end?

A lot of people are expecting the Wii U to fail at reaching GCN-levels. In the end the Wii U is then expected to barely hit 4 million in Japan by these people. Achieving an attach rate of 50% over the lifetime of a console seems a bit outrageous.

I don't think 2M for NSMBU is guaranteed at all.

I realize that it's a launch game but it's doing sub 7k numbers now with less than 500k sold, so it would need more than 200 weeks selling at 7k to get close to 2M.

It will depend on how fast (and if) Nintendo can turn things around.

Is sengoku hime big enough to chart in top 20 ?

Because other two i'm guessing <5k sales
There was a PSP version of Sengoku Hime 3 released less than a year ago. It sold 5083 copies in the first week and didnt chart again. I'm not sure if the Vita version has any extra content, but if it sells more than the PSP version, i'll be surprised.

Expecting NSMBU to always sell at levels similar to the ones at the end of January on a small userbase is ludicrous. It'll sell more as more consoles get into the hands of the public, and the traditional Nintendo holiday boosts will bring hundreds of thousands of copies alone.

Take a look and see how many more copies these games sold after they dropped below 10k weekly.
As of now I think it's more likely for NSMBU to perform similarly to Mario 64 DS http://garaph.info/softwareindividual.php//gid/292 + a bit of better legs.

It's going to depend on how fast (and if) Nintendo can turn things around.

MonMon is a little expensive for what it is, though the game itself is actually not as bad as generally expected. Pretty solid title.
Demon Gaze is MORE than worth the cost of admission. Great dungeon crawler. 25 hours and counting.

One week after launch, Demon Gaze (PSVita) has surpassed 50,000 units in sales (retail+PSN): http://news.dengeki.com/elem/000/000/590/590492/

To celebrate the sales there will be free DLC for the next four weeks.

So, it's 50% retail, 50% PSN? Good to know that Japanese are adopting DD. That should allow some of the smaller games to bring in more revenue.

Those aren't launch games. The trajectories are different between a launch and non-launch game.

You're seriously comparing a port of a 3D mario vs a new 2D mario?

I'm using Mario 64 DS as an example of a launch game and how I think NSMBU is going to perform in the next few months considering WiiU is tanking badly.

I'm not comparing 3D Mario and 2D Mario.

I think 2 million is likely but hard to call it a lock right now.

How long will it take for the wii u itself to reach 2M?

Faster than either PS3 and PSV and I´m sure also a lot faster than the upcoming PS4 due to weak 1st and 2nd party software and the decline of franchises like Dynasty Warriors, Ridge Racer and Co.. Also because like FF13 that was released more than 3 years after PS3 in Japan, SQEX will take their time (maybe even years) again on the next mainline entry. Especially after 2 consecutive weak system launches from Sony, both weaker/slower than WiiUs.

Regarding WiiU, I´m positive that by the end of the year WiiU will be pretty close to a 2M userbase.

It's 1.4 mill. for NSMB and 0.5 mill. for NSMBW, I think considering the early state of the Wii U it might be a good sign for a 2 mill. goal.
