Truly Weird Stuff Showing Up in Steam Database (Halo, KOF13, other unlikely stuff)

This is not an update at all. "We do not currently have any plans" means "We have not announced anything". This, of course, does not mean that they do have plans, but I just mean that the clarification provides absolutely no information.

Yep. If they were to announce tomorrow that they will release Halo on Steam, it wouldn't contradict this statement.

Still, it's a bummer.

"Currently". How about in the next months? ;) (Hey, one can dream :p)

When Eurogamer asked about a Steam release of the original Halo Trilogy and presented the entries in the Steam registry, franchise director Frank O'Connor simply replied with: "Oh gee, how did you guys find out?"

"We currently do not have plans to release any 'Halo' titles on Steam," said a Microsoft spokesperson in response to our query.

Eh, that's like the textbook PR non-answer. We'll see.

What I don't understand is how games are getting "announced" by this channel. Is there really anything Valve could do to stop this from happening? It's not a new thing either.

There have to be references to games in Steam for various technical reasons, they try to mask the titles/information but now and then someone gets careless.

Information will always leak out here and there. Achievements sites, Linkedin profiles etc.

Would people buy Halo 3 on PC? I mean, really? On consoles I can try to understand because of the level of competition but on PC? Hmm. Also, are Halo games on Steam already?

I play Halo games mainly for the campaign. So yeah, will buy on PC too and probably dig into multiplayer even more if it would be healthy.

I never played more than the demo of H1 and the first 30 minutes and a couple of 2-player local multiplayer matches in H3, so I may get them just to see what the fuzz is all about.

I would buy Halo 3 on pc with a server browser on day one. That and modding would make the multiplayer near perfect for me.

Thanks to the proliferation of ADS/iron sights in the FPS genre, Halo 3 released on PC in 2013 would legitimately be a better PC FPS than 99% of its competition in the last ~5 years, despite it being designed for a gamepad instead of a mouse.

The textbook non-answer is of course "we do not comment on rumours or speculation".

The fact that MS always does means we basically always know when something is true or not based on their PR response.

So Halo trilogy for Windows 8 announced at E3 then.

I knew i shouldn't have gotten excited. I feel like the answer isn't good, if they had said, 'we don't comment on rumors and speculation,' i would have had more hope.

But a modern Halo game released on PC with a good port would mean we could go back indefinitely if we wanted.

I cant get the Halo 1 FOV fix to work.
And Halo 2 was such a bad port that I cant justify it.

I agree.

MS PR decoding;
"we do not comment on rumour or speculation" = "fuck, how'd they find out?"
"we have nothing to say at this time / we do not currently have any plans" = "were not ready to announce this"
"Microsoft deny rumours / story [x] is based on inaccurate rumors and speculation. We have no further comment" = "not true in the slightest"

So you're telling me there is a chance?

Ms usually straight up deny things that are entirely untrue - "we're not currently" is not a straight up denial.

But I have no insider info about this if thats what youre asking.

I still believe that the Halo games are coming. When you search Halo on the game hub these results shows up.

KOF XIII oh please oh please oh please

I would *completely* double-dip on that. Triple-dip even, if my partner and I want our own copies.

I would really like to see PC versions of not just Halo 3 & 2 but some of the other well-known first-party 360 exclusives eg. Crackdown, Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts, Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Fable 2, Halo Wars etc. I'm sure there would be some demand for some of these games on Steam and it's not like it matters whether they are exclusive to the 360 or not with Durango on the horizon.

Yep.
Microsoft should just grow a pair and admit it.

I wonder if SNK is going to respond at all.

listen to the mad man
.ru eh?

Seems legit. Seriously though, the vast majority of this stuff is just highly unlikely to happen.

This represents a failure to read the rest of the original post, or basically any responses to the thread.

considering how the steam guy has been talking trash about MS. dont expect.

Even if "the steam guy" had been "talking trash" about "MS", the real-world example of dozens of Microsoft Studios games being on Steam would contradict any implications you could read from that.

Wasn't Halo: CE one of the first OSX games? Not sure if still runs now, though.

Halo was initially supposed to be Mac only. There is a Mac version of the game, but it is super rare and I doubt it runs on the newest version of OSX. Would really love to have it come out though to feed my craving for casual FPS fun on my Mac!

Just found Ms Splosion Man coming up in the game hubs search as well. Twisted Pixel coming over along with Microsoft? Seems like it.
