LittleBigPlanet 3 in works at Sumo Digital VG247 rumour [Up: Found On Resume]

Ready at Dawn is making a new IP, right? At this rate, I bet Jak 4 is in the works somewhere and it's not ND.

I'm kind of crazy but I platinumed LittleBigPlanet 1 on launch day. I never had trouble with its jumping. I even cleared The Bunker level before they discovered that cheap/silly exploit that gets you past the wheel of death. It made sense to me since the world functioned off real-world physics, with momentum and friction and such. To me, it was responsive, because I could predict where Sackboy would land based on the world around him because it worked very realistically. Beyond that, I could control his direction and landing while in mid-air.

Meanwhile, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2's jumping physics, which obviously goes for its own sort of style, annoyed the shit out of me because of the fact that you can't control Mario's turning direction in mid-air (which ironically, I guess is kind of realistic, but doesn't work well for a platformer in my opinion), and you can hardly control the placement of his landing once you've pressed the jump button (also ironic, because it's realistic, but I don't think it works well). It made jumping more haphazard for me than it needed to be. Although I will say the running/turning/ground movement of Mario was splendid.

My two cents, consider me "out of my right mind".

3D Mario games work very different from their 2D counterparts where you actually can change direction in mid-air. And you actually can control Mario's direction in mid-air, that's the other use of the spin, not just to gain height. What both have in common is that they're responsive, precise and most importantly consistent. The problem with LBPs platforming is that the physics make it more of a sandbox rather than a pure platformer. As I said, it can be fun but mechanically speaking it's not very competent compared to the best in the genre.

To everyone complaining about the physics - play LBP Vita.

I will. Has the level-design improved accordingly?

Media Molecule is working on something completely new for the PS4 correct? I'd say Sony has their priorities right there. It's best to ensure that their top-grade first-party developers are around to support the new system at launch, or close to anyway. And then there's a tiny off-shoot of MM folks working on Tearaway for the Vita. I'm always clamouring for new IPs so that's a pretty sweet future line-up.

I probably will not get LBP again if its LBP3 for PS3.

Really, I'd probably only get it if its on new hardware (PS4) like I got LBP for the Vita.

I honestly never thought of using the spin to change direction. Interesting. But without it, you could change direction, but like I said, "hardly", as he just kind of leans to one side or the other as you pull the analog stick. I find LittleBigPlanet's jumping mechanics responsive and usually consistent and precise, unless you do something like try to jump off a moving item. Then you will have forward momentum and have to account for it like in real life, and the material you land on will have different frictional properties as well. Obviously you don't have to think about that in Mario, but it wasn't much of an issue for me in LBP. I can see that it was for others though.

This not being in the hands of MM worries me, though. Their stellar team brought a charm to LBP that I can only see in similarly in Tearaway. I'm skeptical if another team could bring the innocent charm to a mainline entry like MM did, but then again Sanzaru did an awesome job with Sly 4 so I'm also optimistic.

Sumo was one of many studios that worked on the Vita LBP. I'd argue that it is easily the best in the series.

Ah, wasn't aware of that. Good to know, not worried about the game's quality at all between that and Sumo's good output in general for the past few years.

Totally forgot about Puppeteer, haven't heard anything about in awhile

Oh crap. Puppeteer probably won't be in a very good spot if both it and LBP3 launch at the end of the year.

First, if yet ANOTHER LBP game is being made, why not have Tarsier do it, since they knocked it out of the fucking park with the Vita game?

Second; DON'T MAKE ANOTHER LBP GAME. Fuck's sake, I can't think of another property that has been this beaten into the ground. Wait a while.

This. Should have had them do LBP Karting.

Karting is way better than Allstars Transformed. So probably not, besides they were busy with Transformed. They're about a wash on level design but Karting has better racing hands down. Not to mention all the flexibility of the user generated content.

Just booted it up and Super Massive Games, Fire Proof Studios and Maverick are all credited on the opening splash screens along with Sumo and Mm. Tarsier and Doudle Eleven did the bulk of the work. We know D11 is adapting Frozen Synapse for Vita and PS3, presumably Tarsier are busy on something unannounced.

Seems a good pick to me.

And on the sixth day the LORD David Bowie created man and woman in His image. And he saw that it was good. On the seventh day the LORD created videogames so that He might take the bloody day off for once.
Yuck, I wanted LBP3 for the PS4.
This.
x1000 THIS. A next-gen LBP is absolutely what I've been wanting the most these days.

This rumor is anti-hype.

Shoulda been Tarsier.

They did a great job with the game on the vita but the online portion is a freaking disaster. I hope Sumo Digital completely redesigns the that part of the game. Quirky weird in a game is great, but it sucks for finding levels and other players.

They really need to get rid of 'each players custom planet' or at least give you the option to disable that shit in options. So much of the terrible network code is being eaten up on superfluousness crap when it comes to LPB.

Good, thanks. Looking forward to this then.

Think to put on those thinking caps and squint really hard!

I don't understand the idea of making the PS3 the "family" console and the PS4 the "hardcore" console. You'd think Sony would want to have all of their games on the PS4 so that it sells to as many different people as possible. This arbitrary segregation is ridiculous.

Yeah, it completely breaks the game. It's a shame reviews didn't highlight that but it's hard to test it before the game is released. It ruined the game for me.

Hardcore fans already own PS3s for the most part. PS3 is still not at a mass-market price, there is still a huge audience they can appeal to and eat Wii U's lunch with.

Hope they fix that 3 level step thing they have (not sure how else to describe it) I always seem to be caught on the wrong level. Actually can you turn that off on levels you create yourself?

Not that I really like how Sony is milking LBP franchise now, but still, this game can be very good and innovative.

I hope Tearaway isn't the only Media Molecule's project. They must cook something else as well.
