SNES Game Collecting (Tips, discussion, and info for like minded collectors)

Yes, especially since the majority of the people there show up for chile corn on the cob and live chickens... still not done with this weekend though, i wanna go hit up some thrift stores now. Goodwill is open on sunday, right?

Yeah Goodwills are.

But the Salvation Armies (which I always think are a million times better) and Saint Vincent are closed Sundays. Goodwill puts most of their stuff on eBay so I never have faith in them.

Hey guys, I got a lot of snes stuff today that were either duplicates of stuff i owned, or things I didn't like the overall condition of but i'm very picky personally. The seller agreed to return the stuff with condition issues and I'm gonna let him know by tomorrow but I figured maybe some gaf folks might care to nab some of it first. They won't be up long however as I do need to let him know what I'm returning. Here is a link http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=47532000&postcount=2466

Very nice! Sadly I own all of those already but good luck with the sale!

Thanks, most of them look good enough and I am tempted to keep them, I guess I was aiming for 9's and 10's all around and didn't quite get that, but I didn't even think of reselling them. If interest exist I might just not bother returning them and sell some of it later, but maybe i'll keep some too. Sadly that seller actually forgot to throw in one of the games entirely so it's pretty frustrating.

No plans of ever investing in a SNES collection. Just doesn't appeal to me on many levels.
That being said, I really appreciate reading everyone's stories here <3

THEN WHY ARE YOU POSTING HERE? you son of a ....

I'm just fucking with you, and I've been drinking. I agree, it's a very fun thread to read. Which I was hoping for when I posted the OP.

About Secret Of Mana counterfeit cartridges, I've seen quite a few fakes in person and a few blatant fakes on ebay.

You can easily tell by opening up the cartridge and looking at the board, or even post the images here.

Yeah but like the other guy said, just skip goodwill. You would have better luck at independent thrift stores (if there are any in your area).

I might get a few classics at some point, but at the moment id rather just collect dreamcast of megadrive games, but they're pretty cheap (maybe they'll balloon in value at some point) anyway.

There doesn't seem to be any retro game shops near me (Roswell GA) .Damn

Though.. kind of near my work is a Play N' Trade.
Damn, it's a real shame US Gaming Arena in Roswell shut down a couple years back. That was such a nice place--a nice retro/import selection from what I recall, tons of gaming PCs, giant projector screen, Smash/SC/whatever tournaments all the time, a bar. I always loved browsing through what they had when I made it out there for their Smash tournaments. Prior to that there was Waba Game, which I think actually became USGA. The Atlanta area is bound to have a few here and there, but I realize it's massive and traffic is a pain.

Birmingham, AL is pretty bad for retro game hunting. One antique store (What's on 2nd) is probably the best place to check since they seem to get new stuff in pretty regularly; prices range from good to about what you'd find on ebay. Specialized retro game stores in the suburbs are always picked over or way overpriced. Thrift stores are always picked over or more likely never getting anything in. Yard sales never have any games at all. Craigslist is full of people who want ebay prices without dealing with it. I'm sure it's like this everywhere, though.

Yeah man, looks like nowdays is the wrong time to get into collecting though

Shit is crazy expensive (O__o)

You're right but the best part is when you stumble upon something expensive for really cheap. Going to a flea market here and there is nice since you may find something valuable for pretty cheap.

I feel yah

thanks to that damn Gamecube love thread, I've decided to start up a proper, though small, GC collection (^___^)

some gc games are still retaining some decent value, in the UK at least. the twin snakes goes for £30 regularly, and so does the limited edition of wind waker with OoT. going to sell my copies probably because I need the cash, but it'll be sad to see then going.

Just picked up a MINT version of US Twin Snakes for $50

...like, I was damn surprised. Look like it just came out of the shrinkwrap.

Is your Wind Waker the UK version?

Just echoing on what others said, but wait until Spring or Summer. Prices on eBay are ridiculous right now. A lot of games have doubled in price in the last 12 months.

Apparently I missed out on a boxed copy of Sunset Riders for $30 >.<

The Super Nintendo is my favourite console of all time. I have such great memories. I'm looking at trimming some of the fat at some point in the future, and add a few classics that I have lost along the way. I need to get a proper list written up of what I actually have, and what I need.

I always thought a slot widened SNES would look awful but that doesn't seem too bad actually.

And this thread's giving me that itch again..... must........resist...

Just scored a nice looking Donkey Kong Country 2 for $12. Guy has a nice looking Link to the Past also for $23.65 shipped. Little dirty, but that can be cleaned up no problem. That's about as good as that game gets price wise: Link.

Damn. Ninja Gaiden Trilogy goes for way more than that alone. Very awesome score.

Around Chicago? Someone has been selling these games as well as a bunch more.
I wanted to buy ninja gaiden trilogy but it's too far of a drive for me with two kids.

I've been hunting Craigslist too in Chicago and saw someone asking $75 for ng trilogy. Not worth it considering the music doesn't sound as good as the originals.

He originally listed it for $40, then upped it to $75 when he realized how much it was worth so I had to do some haggling.

The Super Metroid pricing on ebay is getting crazy.

Which of you bastards got that boxed Sunset Riders???

If it's close enough, it'd be worth it to just resell on ebay. The last few copies have sold from $140-180 on there. Cheapest buy it now is $150 at the moment.

Wasn't me. I'm just curious what games that guy has left. Can't be many at this point! I'm thinking about heading over to People Play Games this afternoon. That might curb my urge to buy more snes and gent stuff.

I haven't seen shit worth buying off craigslist. I've been looking every day for the past month checking every town within an hour. I live down by Champaign, not shit but 360 sports games and Wii.

Word? I work in chambana but I live over in blo-no.

Stay away from my retro spots!!! ;P

BTW, if you're around champaign, there's a new(er) retro game store downtown by the train station called Live Action Games.

$120.

Will clean it up and take a better photo once it has arrived. But there's something even better getting here on Tuesday!

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Prices always get jacked up after christmas and in the winter when people have extra disposable income. At least on ebay that has been the trend for the last few years when I was browsing for games.

That's the trend I've noticed, as well. Maybe that's part of why retro gaming/collecting always ends up being something I do in the summer.

can i play u.s. snes carts on a pal snes or super famicom system? i love the look of the pal snes and the famicom, but wouldn't want one if i can only play games from their respective regions. i'd like to be able to play the u.s. versions of games on them.

Super Famicom and SNES Brick systems are compatible with each others' software with a little brute force. If you don't want to damage your SFC, then an adapter (<2,000¥/$20 new) will work.

Not sure about compatibility with PAL SNES systems, but it's much cheaper to buy an SFC.

Giant lot o' stuff?
Even better. It's hardware. Will save the surprise for when it's set up!

how reliable are the adapters? will all games run 100% as intended? also, is there a particular one that is better than the others? lastly, does the super famicom have the same yellow problems with the plastic as the super nintendo?

Very very nice!

You've set the bar pretty high for the "even better" part though.

I'm expecting Star Fox Super Weekend or something at least.

Yes you are correct. There is no where around here anywhere (that I know of) besides a Replay's in Hueytown. I got DKC2 there the other day but they rarely have anything SNES related besides crap. There used to be a Game Xchange on Lakeshore Dr that I racked up at all the time back in '07 but they ended up closing and tearing that whole storefront down :(
