Destiny viral marketing campaign/teaser sites begin

So, when the Geomask gets smaller, does the Output image become less clear at the same time, or does it only ever get clearer? If the quality doesn't actually degrade we could theoretically clear it up by just making repeated pushes every hour or so?

It seems the image on the left stays at the maximum level of development that the concurrent hits achieved. It doesn't degrade or get clearer. So at least we know that once we unlock it, it should stay.

Misriah Solutions has set a time to attempt it again tomorrow. 10pm EDT/EST (whichever it is right now lol).

That's our best bet for time. In the meantime, we need to try to spread the word as much as possible. Maybe some Bungie fans can hit up Halo related forums to try to get word out that way? As well as the usual Social Networks of Twitter/FB/Instagram/Kaboodlistism?

Note: Kaboodlistism is not a real social network. Or at least I think it isn't.

Heh, that's me and I think I'm changing it to 11:00am PST. (2:00pm EST)

Should work much better for Europe. We need this to be a global effort.

A part of me wishes the entire internet would agree to give up, forcing Bungie to just announce it. :)

They would never expect it! ;)

Seriously though, let's Tip some gaming news websites like Polygon, Joystiq, etc. Kotaku probably already has it. ;P 11am PST. They'd be glad to pick this up, build some momentum for Destiny, and the return of Bungie.

Interesting theory on the Bungie forums regarding the time of the ARG. Thus far we've all guessed that it must by 7 days but this poster posits that it could be 7 weeks, updating once per week.

Assuming this is a weekly event, and on every Monday, it would end on the first day of the Game Developers Conference.

Perhaps we're supposed to unlock something on each Monday and prepare for the following Monday during the week? We'll see.

Pretty much. We'll get a new message each day until next week when I assume they'll do the full reveal.

Nothing will beat the I Love Bees phone calls to pay phones.

Oh shit. That makes more sense... Looking at the way the numbers move around Monday in the center would support this. The brightened number would change but Monday stays the same..

The points on the star map is just a projection of the world high above Africa, repeated several times onto the plane, at different angles.

If you look at this animation, you can see in the upper left hand the east coast down to Florida rotating into view.

Yeah...I don't see that.

The original URL says 'day=0'. So I'm just going to assume it's a day thing. 7 weeks seems like a long time.

Day 0 is a term that usually just represents the beginning of an event. Of course it could definitely still be a daily thing. I just think that the timing lining up to GDC works out rather well and seems to make more sense than ending up a few days before the Sony Conference. If it is indeed lined up with an MS announcement, GDC makes sense. Also the pattern of previous Bungie ARGs lasting quite awhile also fits with the Weeks theory.

Nope, don't see it.

I can see the panhandle of Florida. If you look at the top left largest cluster near the bottom of the cluster.. towards the end of the .gif the panhandle emerges.

I see planes slowly shifting into place. Rotating slightly counter clockwise.

Maybe I'm stating the obvious but I think it's slowly going to oscillate in and out, flaring up the cloud. When it is peaked or troughed is when we should start hitting the site. I think that .gif shows progress half way towards facing viewer's perspective. Maybe that's when we'll get a good signal.

Isn't Bungie having a panel and talking about 'Destiny' at GDC. So for it to end around the same time they do there panel would also make sense.

One question:

Are people remembering the concept and art and rumors we got last year?
Something about an odd sphere howering over Earth and such?
Does any of those give a hint for this ARG?

Theres a ton of noise, but you can see it rotating to counter clockwise around a north-south axis. It appears that it's made up of 2D billboards that are jumping in and out of view.

basic story details behind spoiler tag

Regarding the storyline, the document says "Our story begins seven hundred years from now in the Last City on Earth, in a Solar System littered with the ruins of man's Golden Age. A massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from or what it's here for, but only that it's our protector. Meanwhile, strange, alien monsters creep in from the edge of the universe, determined to take Earth and the Last City. We are young 'knights' tasked with defending the remains of humanity, discovering the source of these monsters and - eventually - overcoming it."

As for the map. I think it is just a visual reference of how close we are. Eventually the sphere will be totally white, like the Traveler. At that point the message for that day/week will be clearly visible.

It's not actually rotating though it appears to do so. The image is mirrored through an axis and then flipped. That's also why it appears to look like a diagonally oriented Infinity sign. Through the Y axis specifically.

The animation makes it look like an image that is out of focus. I dont really know how to describe it other than that. Like four of the same image that over lap along the borders.

From Ptolemy's Almagest.

Dead on! Amazing eye. I knew I had seen it before, but would have never placed it:

From the Almagest:

"The cosmology of the Almagest includes five main points, each of which is the subject of a chapter in Book I. What follows is a close paraphrase of Ptolemy's own words from Toomer's translation.

The celestial realm is spherical, and moves as a sphere.
The Earth is a sphere.
The Earth is at the center of the cosmos.
The Earth, in relation to the distance of the fixed stars, has no appreciable size and must be treated as a mathematical point.
The Earth does not move."

I can't get excited about these kinds of things. It's out there, and someone else'll figure it out in a few days, and I'll look at it then without getting sucked in by some cheap marketing ploy to focus all my attention on a few deliberately obscured pixels for days at a time.

Also, I'M FUCKING HYPED.

Lemme know when you guys figure it out.

Destiny taking place in an alternate universe where mankind once ruled thinking Earth was the centre of the universe? Or how about, the Traveller doesn't actually travel. Everything moves around it.

I don't know, now I'm starting to get crazy.

I'm only mildly interested in the game (I haven't liked a single MMOFPS I've tried) but watching Detective-GAF work in real-time is a thing of beauty.

If you're right, and I think you are, then we should concentrate our efforts when the US comes into full view. Those of us on the West coast probably aren't even contributing until we rotate into view. Seems like it would be in the middle of the night sometime, which would make sense conceptually for stargazing.

Alternatively we already have a fair number of decent resolution images available. With some decent signal analysis tools we may already be able to make out the text on the left image.
