Media Create Sales: Week 5, 2013 (Jan 28 - Feb 03)

Well, no one expected it to sell(well ship) that much, considering the small Vita base, while DQ7 selling what it did was a given. Really just comparing apples to oranges.

Comparing one big third party title to another one. Not soooo wrong ;). But let us end here.

Prediction League 2013 - Entire Year

Predict how much these items will sell in the entire year of 2013:

[3DS] Hardware - 5,788,800
[WIU] Hardware - 1,666,666
[3DS] Pokemon X/Y - 4,222,222
[3DS] Monster Hunter 4 - 3,122,222
[3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf - 2,110,000
[3DS] Dragon Quest VII - 1,555,555
[3DS] New Super Mario Bros. 2 - 1,220,100
[WIU] New Super Mario Bros. U - 510,000
[WIU] Nintendo Land - 289,333

Comparing one big third party title to another one. Not soooo wrong ;). But let us end here.

The comparison is a bit silly in the sense that Japan is handheld nation, while the western market aren't that accepting towards the handheld market, and especially the Vita. Comparing this game with a home console game in the west would be a better comparison, but still pointless and silly.

Even if they have sold 90% of the shipment, 100k are still in the market, and with 100k is not so hard to see the games on shelves.

if they sold 90% it means it's not sold out
if they shipped 1mln and they claim to have sold 1mln in the first 2 days, it's sold out.

on saturday and monday it was available in all stores i visited (including Yodobashi Akiba), it means they probably made another shipment (monday was holiday in Japan, even if Akihabara was not as crowded as it is during weekends)

We had a whole thread how "good" the AC Liberation numbers have been. And DQ7 has outdone them in under one week. Well, maybe the thread only gave a wrong impression^^. Sorry.
That has to do with expectations. For example. Demon Gaze for Vita has sold over 50k, that is concidered as a good number eventhough that it is a far cry from what Dragon Quest 7 remake will sell.

What you say about the sales numbers is true, but i was wondering whats scary about it :) We have already seen several of 3DS games sell more than what AC: Liberation has sold worldwide (which hasnt been a surprise to me concidering the titles of those games, like Mario Kart and Animal Crossing), and the Vita has been selling bad for many months now. I'm curious what is scary about it in this point in time?

if they really sold 1mln in 2 days, they should have made a second shipment, cause yesterday i was in Akihabara and the game was available

if they sold 90% it means it's not sold out
if they shipped 1mln and they claim to have sold 1mln in the first 2 days, it's sold out.

But I don't think that any source claimed that they sold 1 mil in 2 days.
Yesterday's source just said that SE shipped 1 mil, while we know that ST% of the firts day could be around 50%
SE didn't claim to have sold 1 mil in 2 days, from yesterday's Famitsu news

It's Nintendo, you can expect it to pop out with a release date in March out of nowhere.

I think it will be presented in the next Direct, 3DS focused.

I mean the month without release would have seen abysmal level for Wii U.

yeah, but so absymal to be under 10k wasn't expected just a couple of weeks ago. Failure level: Vita (or worst?)

Dragon Quest VII has been sold out of stores the last two days around my house.

Was not sold out on the weekend.

Makes me think the million shipped lasted more than a few days, but it's now sold out in many places.

Prediction League 2013 - Entire Year

Predict how much these items will sell in the entire year of 2013:

[3DS] Hardware - 6,400,000
[WIU] Hardware - 2,500,000
[3DS] Pokemon X/Y - 3,400,000
[3DS] Monster Hunter 4 - 3,550,000
[3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf - 1,280,000
[3DS] Dragon Quest VII - 1,225,000
[3DS] New Super Mario Bros. 2 - 1,100,000
[WIU] New Super Mario Bros. U - 600,000
[WIU] Nintendo Land - 440,000

Wii U will settle at around 10k, maybe dropping a few units as the the month goes by but right now it does have a brighter future than the Vita just on the first party promise alone. The whole Vita comparison doesn't really make sense at all besides the similar numbers.

Who said it's sold out? Because I didn't.
And no one said the game sold 1mln in the first two days.

I just said that the game could have had a great sell-through in the first week (let's say around 90%) without being sold-out, and hence very available in stores. If you see the game in stores, it does not mean that it's not doing ok. E.g. 100k units in the market are a quite big amount, hence saying it's available in stores it does not say so much.

the only place i saw DQ7 sold out was at Donki (Don Quixote), but the reason is simple : they were selling the game at 4,900yen, probably the cheapest price you could have found in Tokyo.

Of course the game is selling well, i saw many people buying a copy (and also the guide book, lol) and also i started to meet people on Street Pass which is playing it, even if the most played game is still AC.

I'll post it here and then in the new thread: apart the obvious other topics about this week, what do you think about this?

MHTriG 3DS: 218,097 for MC and 208.963 for Famitsu.
I think that the total LTD for the normal version (not the Best) is around 1.480K

Can someone confirm or deny?

I think that the weekly and LTD sales of the Best version, considering also that there was the Ultimate Wii U version (that sold around 200k) and the already announced 4th episode, are really good.

Maybe the delay of MH4 to summer is part of this result? Don't you think that the global sales of MHTriG are very solid and confirm that the userbase is doing a really good transition from PSP to 3DS? I think that probably MH4 will not be able to top the HUGE results (both in terms of debut and LTD sales) of MHP3, but I think that it really has the potential to do great numbers, reassuring Capcom about their decision.

In fact total LTD for the normal version was already @ 1.564.401 on week 45 of 2012

Edit : Sorry, I'm wrong, this was already the number for The Best version. (As you can see in the Famitsu numbers)

MG3G is in 3D and I see that as a major draw. Its something no other system or version of the game can do. Add in the visual upgrade and extra features and it is not surprising.

People are transitioning well to the 3DS. I suspect if MH4 is not bigger than MHP3 then it'd be a bit disappointing for Capcom. It should be selling to the Nintendo users who never played P3 and the PSP users who have not transitioned to Vita.

It should end up higher imo.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Its stably dropping, if thats what you both mean. Like its not dropping through the 1,000's week by week, but taking two weeks each time.

Read this on Eurogamer today:
Rhodri Broadbent said:
"Video games are something to be cherished and celebrated, and there's no one better at doing that than Nintendo. It's that simple - it only takes one game to turn a platform around. People will buy a platform for one game, and when they've got the system they'll buy more games. It's just about finding that one game."
What will this game be for Wii U in Japan?

Thanks! what do you think about its performance? Now that the Best version is on the market and is getting those sales, I think that it's definetly performing very well.
It will eventually hit 2M+, I would say Capcom have already shipped that much.

Now I can see the Best Price version doing close to 350k or even more. Plus whatever they are selling on the eShop.

3ds is beastly, Wii U is just ugly. I hope DQ7 will sell and sell and convince SE and Nintendo to localize it for the west.

2M + digital is a pretty nice feat for the fourth 3rd gen edition MH in Japan.

Nintendo should try to use their market dominance to convince japanese thirdparties to release wiiu games (yamauchi style)

I mean look at this thread's OP:

35./31. [PSP] Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (PSP the Best) <ACT> (Capcom) {2011.09.22} (¥2.990)

LTD: 300k+

I think MH3G Best will keep selling for years too.
