A reliable Kotaku source has informed us that the PlayStation 4, codenamed Orbis, will be out this November in the United States.

Our source—the same reliable source who back in early 2012 told us the codename for Sony's next console and the codename for Microsoft's next console—tells us that there are two models planned for the new machine, and that pricing won't be announced until later this year, possibly around E3. The current plan, our source says, is to release them at $429 and $529, but that could change.

New information revealed by our source suggests that on top of all that, you'll also be able to control the PS4 remotely from your tablet or smartphone. You'll be able to use a mobile device to chat with your PS4 friends or buy games which are then automatically downloaded to your machine, our source says.

Orbis is also following the path first set by Xbox Live: our source says "most" of the PS4's online features will require a premium subscription to use. Sony's new online service will be called PlayStation World, our source says, replacing PlayStation Plus

our source says that every PS4 will come with a PlayStation Eye; that a new spectating feature will let you watch other friends play games from your console's dashboard, even when you don't own the game they're playing; and that the console will support local network play via Vita.

...

The source for this story is the same source who helped us break the Orbis and Durango codenames. This source also sent us the new photos you can see in today's story. It's not Superdae.

The pricing, as we said in the piece, could very well change. That's just their current plan.

I don't think we'll hear about pricing tomorrow, regardless, but that's just me speaking personally.

YEESH. I'm not sure there is enough first party games in the world to make me pick up a console at that price.

This is horrible and I'm saying that as a day 1 PS+ subscriber.

Online gaming will remain free. No way in hell Sony touches that.

It's probably way too soon for anyone outside of Sony to have accurate pricing. I'm sure those numbers are still in flux at Sony itself.

However, if true, the "THERE'S NO WAY IT WILL COST MORE THAN $400" crowd will be eating serious. crow.

Please don't start charging for online Sony.

Of all the things Sony could have copied from MS they decided on SmartGlass?

Oh well. The way things are shaping up Orbis is looking to be the better system.

Why would i want to control it with my phone?
Because when the store updates while you're at work :)lol) you can use your phone to buy and automatically download your games so they're waiting for you when you get home.

If this is true, hopefully it doesn't mean I will have to pay for online gaming.

Ugh, Sony don't fuck this up.
Pay to play online is bullshit.
Also those triggers don't look so good.
But hey, prototype and all.

Yeah that's the statement that stuck with me too, but "hmmm" wasn't my initial reaction. More like "Ugh."

Awesome. I wonder what kind of extras are in the premium model.

I doubt that the nonlinear gaming will be locked behind a paywall but we will see.

$429 and I'm in.

I really think they should go $399 though.

PlayStation World should be the name of the service, and should replace PlayStation Network IMO

Triggers look great. My first look at them.

If they keep online play free, and keep the Plus features and just ADD to them, I'm okay with this. Still kinda stinks even as a Plus subscriber, but what can ya do.

Because you can use your phone as a controller while watching movies, adjusting sound, picking between, games and stuff. Trust me, its awesome. I already do this w/ my media center and it couldn't be more amazing. Once you try it, you'll understand.
