GameStop's CEO got to see Battlefield 4 today; EA: "BF4 is coming!", "BE ADVISED"

If anything I'm only looking forward to it to see how much more they could possibly ruin the series. Oh and their wonderful DLC schemes are always more exciting than the last.
Since they already implemented the stupidity that was vehicle regeneration, I'm thinking they'll do some more stupid things like ammo that regenerates or environments that reconstruct themselves after being destroyed.

As for the unlock system, there's obviously room to go dumber. Let's not stop at vehicle unlocks, let's just unlock an entire vehicle starting with the tires. Be it a Jeep or a Jet, you start off with the tire and you have to keep capturing points using the tire until you acquire more parts of the vehicles.

As for maps, they'll top BF3 where instead of shipping with two good maps, they'll just ship with no good maps. That or the franchise will just become solely an infantry combat focused shooter, because for some reason they keep catering to people who like playing nothing but garbage infantry-centric maps like Operation Metro despite the fact that the market is full of infantry-centric shooters. The franchise-ruining-train doesn't stop for Digital Illusions.

Can it with the holier-than-thou attitude please. They are catering to people who prefer infantry combat (close quarters) and people who prefer vehicular combat (armoured kill) and a balance between the two. Let people play what they enjoy, they are paying customer as much as the next guy. If regeneration is a problem for you then stick to hardcore servers it's really not that hard and it irks me people still have this attitude.

You sure about that? Let's look at the release schedule for all the major releases for BF (no spin-offs or expansions) games

Battlefield 1942 - 2002
Battlefield Vietnam - 2004
Battlefield 2 - 2005
Battlefield 2142 - 2007
Battlefield: Bad Company - 2008
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - 2010
Battlefield 3 - 2011
Battlefield 4 - 2013/2014

Well, my memory was off. Probably because I skipped games like Vietnam and Bad Company 1+2. I guess I'll be continuing my tradition that I didn't even know I was doing.

That's what I mean, skip a game if you've had a much and revisit at a later date. No harm done.

Battlefield 3.5 confirmed. Seriously with such short time between those two i can't really see how it could look THAT much different.
You do realize that BF has been roughly on a two year dev cycle since it's inception, right? DICE is a huge studio fully capable of producing BF games at this rate.

Battlefield 1942 - 2002
Battlefield Vietnam - 2004
Battlefield 2 - 2005
Battlefield 2142 - 2007
Battlefield: Bad Company - 2008
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - 2010
Battlefield 3 - 2011
Battlefield 4 - 2013/2014

Obviously. Despite the fact that those who prefer the former have plenty of options while those in the latter are still boned out of the same level of options (blah, blah Planetside 2).

In any case, it's funny to see Battlefield 3 look more and more like the competing franchise it's trying to be better than by trying to find a middle ground but ending up woefully mediocre as a Battlefield game.

I hope they don't waste time with a campaign this time.

Literally forgot bf3 bad one until you said this

Also the CEO opinion means literally nothing. Like he's going to say a game sucks. That being said I'm sure it is awesome, but can't see it looking any better than it already does. Still going to be a day 1 purchase

Bad Company 1's SP was kinda awesome. It was consistent, no jumping around to random locations around the world after every level and most of all it had big levels and freedom.
But after BCs campaign it just went downhill and they became more and more linear. It needs to be less like CoD and more like Battlefield/Crysis
Exactly. I loved Bad Company 1. Huge areas, drivable vehicles, it was fantastic. And the story was genuinely entertaining and funny. BC2 was a step back and BF3 was just plain awful.

I know DICE can put together a good campaign when they want to (BC1, Mirrors Edge.)

I'm still rocking BF3 on consoles and it's probably the first shooter since COD4 that I've played past it's first year this gen. Not the most amazing game but so solid, especially with friends. I expect BF4 for consoles to be along PC lines now and I can't wait...

If it's shown off at Sony's event tomorrow for some reason I will be one happy man

There's now a much bigger financial incentive to make really high end assets.

I wonder how much of these "high end assets" will see the light of the day on PS4/Durango.

Could it turn out that BF4 on PC looks like a true generational leap over next gen console versions that will end up looking like BF3 on high settings?

The only reason BF has a campaign is so they have something to put in their trailers.

Well they did trailers on each dlc of BF3 and it was much better than the campaign trailer.

So no, they dont need a campaign for a trailer.

I bet half of their budget was wasted on the campaign :/

Well BF3 on PC with full ultra and 1080p uses about 1.2-1.3 GB of VRAM, and high is less than 1 GB of VRAM, so that would be pretty pathetic.

Honestly, I consider the campaign in Battlefield as trainers.

Except Bad Company 1. That game was pimp.

The Battlefield 3 campaign was so different than what multiplayer is like though. I remember in an interview with gameinformer they said they did that to cater to two different players. Why not have two different games for that? Also, that doesn't excuse the fact that no matter how the campaign's levels were designed, they were badly designed, along with the story, "characters", etc.

Bring back the commander, make the squad spawn system akin to Warfighter, improve AA and don't lock basic things like fucking flairs behind XP walls EA and we can talk.

Am I the only one secretly hoping its based in the WW2 era?

Won't happen but I wouldn't be surprised if we see a 3 way fight akin to BF2 again replace China with N. Korea though.

It irks me that you have zero semblance of good game design, and that you hold to series to such a low standard.

Hilarious that you think Armored kill is a good example of vehicle combat, when those maps are so sloppily designed that they make the CQ maps looks fun.

They don't cater to anyone. The CQ combat is a mess with the client side hit detection. The vehicle combat is terribly balanced with helis being broken at this point.

It's already confirmed to be modern.

Then perhaps tomorrow, we will get a taste of what's what for launch generation games.

I wonder if Premium will apply to BF4 as well, or if you'll have to re-purchase/upgrade it. That would be really clumsy.

I hope they blow me away with games tomorrow. I can't wait for some of the big surprises that are bound to happen. I definitely could see BF4 tomorrow.

Really? Not to start a fight here, but what was so disappointing to you? Huge Battlefield fan and I farking loved it, but again everyone has opinions and all :) Really looking forward to BF4, and I hope they do include SP, I was one of the weirdos that actually liked the campaign. Of course multiplayer is my main bread and butter, over 285 hours with almost 22k kills.

+1

Played BF2 on pc up until bf3's release. (Shit release/patches/origin sucked) But everything is pretty stable.

I also forgot bf3 had a campaign. It was such a stinker, I didn't manage to finish it no matter how hard I forced myself, the only reason I made it a few hours in was to see what the graphics were like.

It's such a waste in hindsight, bf3 would have done with more maps, way better map design, way more polish, more vehicles etc.
They would have had time for all that if they hadn't wasted so much time and money on the C grade singleplayer.

BF3 has the best vehicle balance of the entire franchise. You can't sit there and talk about heli balance of 3 in comparison to the past games' air power with a straight face. Air power completely owned Nam, BF2, BC2 with almost zero counters - a case of the nostalgic blinders. Infantry combat of 3 is light years ahead of any game in the franchise too. Do you even remember the horrible hit detection/random bullet spread cone of BF2/2142? 1942, Nam's infantry combat was utter shit. BC2 had next to no bullet drop and very low recoil. Keep living in the past Mr Unreal avatar.

As the other dude said - mad at vehicle regen or spawning on anyone? Play Hardcore mode: problem solved.

Its the tactical gameplay that took a huge hit in BF3 - Battlefield 4 desperately needs the commander to return, and the ability to place orders on the map. It needs more means communication and coordination. No clue why this was removed from 3 but hopefully they realize their mistake, esp since it sounds like even the console versions are going to have high player counts. Teams are going to need some direction.

I liked BC2 much more then BF3. FB2 wasn't ready for prime time on consoles, the destruction, campaign, server rentals, and client side hit detection in BF3 are steaming hot garbage. It felt optimized for PC and shoe horned for consoles.

I'm more interested in what Danger Close is working on post MOH debacle.

I want to earn points taxiing dudes from point to point and get assist kills when people are using the turrets.
I'll be needing lifts.
I hope they don't waste time with a campaign this time.
They need one so they can justify their price tag.
