Ah, I wasn't aware that they already switched sides since last year. Which new game that's getting exclusive content on the 360? Dead Space 3 with "Better with Kinect" ads I'm guessing.

Yeah, them not showing a demo at the PS meeting was a clear indicator of what's happening.

I'm not saying that you're wrong, but I do have an alternative theory - that EA would rather wait until it can reveal its games for all platforms. If it showed BF4 the other night, it would have to say PS4, PS3, 360 and PC, and despite them later saying next Xbox too, the damage is done - look at how many people thought Destiny wasnt coming to PS4 because of the leak, even after they confirmed it.

EA's way is working is that the day they announce the game they release a detailed bio, shots, video, boxart, it goes up for preorder etc. Announcing when they still can't speak about one of the platforms will limit that.

Yes, it's entirely possible that they're in bed with Microsoft, but it's also possible they're just waiting until the last platform they're targeting is public. That could still mean it gets shown at the Xbox event, just that the press release afterwards will also mention PS4. When Watch Dogs got show, the press release only mentioned PS4 and Wii U, but does anyone really think it's not coming to Xbox next?

From could go MS exclusive. They have before. Dark Souls 2 exclusively on Durango. BOOM.
Did Dark Souls even sold 1M? I wouldn't say that a lot of people is interested on it.
Betrayaltons involve something bigger, with tradition. Like Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Monster Hunter, GTA, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Call of Duty etc. I don't think Dark Souls can be included in this list.

Kinda wish they would have made it a new IP with a fresh world and characters. I've personally never been drawn to the killzone universe and I'm sure there are many people who feel the same way. Would have much rather see a more fantasy-esque style than the clean military look they are going for.

Also, how did they go from wars between planets to having two enemy cities living side-by-side...I think that premise would have been much better off in a new world/universe.

Dark Souls sold well over a million. The Dark Souls brand has become super popular. It would be a shame if it was snatched up as an exclusive.

Dark Souls did Demon's Souls lifetime number in 6 months while not counting Japanese numbers( because from published there).

Now that the graphical discussion has died down (game is still far from being complete and the code was not running with >3.5GB in mind), let's discuss what the game needs to change and improve upon.

Strengths:

  • Gun physics (KZ2) and the consequent feel.
  • Response time (KZ3)
  • Pacing
  • Atmosphere (KZ2)
  • Boss fights (KZ2). Radec truly had a presence I have seldom seen in a video game. Almost like Vader.
  • Animation (hit reaction from KZ2)
  • Attention to detail (environmental and audio)
  • Multiplayer (KZ2)

Weaknesses:

  • Lack of identity (KZ3) and soul imbued by the art style, its consistency and atmosphere of KZ2.
  • Poor plot/story that fails to leverage the a multi-faceted struggle that defines the KZ universe, making it feel absolutely flat.
  • Highly annoying, crass and meathead of a partner.
  • Banal script. Another true disservice given how mighty the opening speeches have been.
  • A general disconnect between what is to be done and why. This general lack of impetus is tied to the plot, character, their motivations and moment to moment objectives.
  • Multiplayer (KZ3)
  • Lacking any memorable character (KZ3).

Potential Addendum:

  • RPG elements- Arsenal and player unlocks, upgrades and customization.
  • Dialog choices (Alpha protocol, ME) allowing for players to personalize the story.
  • Co-op
  • Ability to play as both Helgan and Vektan (to build upon a multi faceted story and explore the impetus for the actions of both sides) in the same campaign (think Snatch).

I've recently tried playing KZ2 and KZ3 multipayer again and though I prefer KZ2, KZ3 is really not as bad as it's made out to be. All of the flaws seemed like something that could be corrected very easily instead of something messed up in the fundamentals. Make the scout only able to carry the sniper rifle, make the rocket launcher a replacement for your primary weapon and not your pistol, limit proximity explosives to the infiltrator, and put back in spawn grenades so the battles are more dynamic and less potential to get trapped in your main spawn.

One of the deepest issues that may of took a bit more to fix isn't even gameplay related though. The maps are too bright. You have these enemies that run around in dark armor and those ominous red glowing eyes, why would you not want to take advantage of that? Forget all the COD complainers who thought KZ2 was too dark, that's how it should be.

  • Boss fights (KZ2). Radec truly had a presence I have seldom seen in a video game. Almost like Vader.
The Radec and Visari duo was one of the best things Killzone 2 had going for it. I agree in that it felt very Vader and Emperor esque. It's really a shame we couldn't get more of them in the series, but I'm excited for this new Black Hand leader guy. He sounded pretty cool in the trailer.

Think you have nailed it. GG, take note!

I really like the slow motion shooting. It's what I loved about max payne back in the day. It's probably for single player only but I think it will be a lot of fun.

Great post i-Lo.

Personally, the direction I believe GG is heading with Shadow Fall is against the grain. My personal belief is admittedly probably wrong because it is radical for a number of reasons:

1) Remember the rumors of a fantasy-RPG developed by Guerrilla Games? Well, where is it? Also, the Shadow Fall team added 25 new staff for its development. What for, and its possible that the additional team GAF speculated about for the fantasy-RPG wasn't a new team at all but simply new additions to the Shadow Fall team.

2) Wait a minute, your probably thinking. Killzone is a FPS. Where are you getting this fantasy-RPG idea from, is another question you might be thinking. Well, first of all, the game title raises suspicions. Why not go with Killzone4? The obvious answer is because its set 30 years in the future featuring a new main character and reasonably a new supporting cast. Killzone2, however was set in the near future as well and supporting a main character and new supporting cast as well, yet it followed the number sequence. Its not hard proof but the title change can indicate a change in philosophy.

3) I'm saying they are transitioning away from the FPS either, but adding fantasy-RPG elements to Shadow Fall to deepen the gameplay. Posters have been drawing comparisons to Mass Effect with Vetka City. I've noticed the same parallels. Surely traversal is possible as well. I mean, from what we saw in the demo, it is possible those blue "highways" cars are traveling on our ways to freely move from one semi-open area to another semi-open area with numerous NPCs to talk to, story events waiting to be triggered, and secrets to find through exploration.

4) The story also is begging for this type of game to be made and what better universe is this type of game better for other than Killzone? You are a secret operative Shadow Warrior whose sole job is maintaining the peace between both factions. Obviously you are welcome on either side and probably know each sides political leaders because you are the peace keeper. Killzone always had a moral ambiguity about it especially with the ending of 2 and I think this type of game can explore this moral ambiguity even deeper. Shadow Fall could based on premise fit the description of a fantasy-RPG with shooting elements.

So, what do y'all think. It's obviously crazy town but its fun to think about. Killzone has always had so much potential to be one of the greatest FPS of all-time but for some reason it always finds a way to come up short in the writing and story department. That is why its so much fun for me to speculate over because its one of those games where I feel like I could write a compelling story for and design a game around. So what you essentially read is the game I would develop if I was the creative director.

Anyway, I'm going to keep holding my breath for this to come true because I've argued before that I'm still skeptical that this demo is actually in the final game but that its a demo showing the game and story concept.

EDIT:

5) Furthermore, based on the premise of the story, there is little wiggle room for their being any other environments other than the Vetka City and Helgan City. Why would you need to venture planet Vetka when it is clear the Wall dividing the two factions is the center piece of Shadow Falls story? Also, what is the point of designing an entire city that spans for miles in every direction with detailed geometry and textures for if you can't explore it? For pretty scenery is the obvious answer, but from what we know about the story its based on these two factions in heavy political and societal conflict divided by a Wall I want to know where else could the story take us that is relevant to this story arch?

Just played KZ2 again yesterday.. damn it has aged a bit. After seeing Shadow Fall and I was expecting KZ2 to look just like it, I was blown away how much better Shadow Fall looks.

We get this every generation a bit, "Eh it doesnt look that much better! Just shinier and HD". But you start to see the difference as soon as you go back... can't wait

Why would From give in to MS. Most of their userbase is on PS3.

With this new Killzone I hope we get a Radec like character. Radec was s o badass.

This for sure. Or they could just bring back Radec.

Talking of betraylatons I have a feeling MS might go for Metal Gear.

The more times I watch this the more impressed I am. The 1080p version is just staggeringly beautiful.

Yeah. It's funny, it doesn't really look like CGI to me, it looks more like concept art. I feel like I am looking at a very detailed drawing. I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing either.

I think Microsoft might get some things from Capcom, BioWare , and some other PC Devs, but I doubt they would be able to get exclusive Japanese High Selling games. Especially with how the 360 sold in Japan.

If anybody will get the exclusive Japan top sellers it'll be Nintendo. Never under estimate them.

Is Killzone 1 worth playing? Or has it aged terribly?

I remember not being especially impressed with a demo back years and years ago.

Kojima is a Sony fanboy lol. I doubt MS will go after Japanese devs.....more likely to do something with EA or Activision.

Is it up to Kojima? If it was I doubt he would have put the HD collection or Rising on the 360.

But yeah, I can see your point about them not going for Japanese devs. MS already seem to have Crytek and Epic in the bag, some sort of Bethesda exclusivity would be likely I think. Fallout 4?

I'm sure this as been mentioned but the sound in this demo was excellent I thought and the music at the beginning was like a weird mix of Blade Runner and Flight Of The Navigator.

Also the subtitle and the brief game description has me wondering if the game is just an all out FPS or if there is more to it?

im totally fine with this, console gamers wont see the difference and pc gamers that get consoles for exclusive titles will eventually get used to it the same way they did with current consoles

What makes you say that
gears of war is owned by EPIC games and not MS, if they wanted they could release it on ps3 but what is stopping them is the huge amount of money MS is paying them to keep it only on 360, eventually third party exclusives wil be a thing of the past so i also believe we will see in some form a game in the gears universe on the ps4

The vast majority of which on playstation. Not putting any future souls game on the ps platform would be very stupid by From and would cost them far more money than whatever MS would pay them.

I hope GG gives us dual campaigns with K:SF. ISA - Shadow Marshall | Helghast - Assassin / Saboteur. I wouldn't surprised if the Helghast side plays like KZ2.

Yup, i agree.

1080p is a waste of recources if you ask me. It only brings something to the table if you are sitting very near the screen, but on distance 720p is looking almost the same.

The cost-benefit ratio isn`t it really worth and they should better invest the power for a higher framerate or better overall graphics.

the cost benefit ratio isn't there..... said the guy clamoring for 60fps.

I wonder if the graphics fidelity will be the same in multiplayer as it is campaign, it's
was the same for both KZ2 and KZ3. It would be AMAZING if 24 or 32 player multiplayer epic battles also looked this good, but if they don't I know they won't be too far behind regardless.
These guys are tech wizards.

Everybody is Mikkelsexual

No direct feed? C'mon Sony... YouTube's compression totally ruins the video. :(

Edit: BTW, I just noticed that the smoke into the building just goes through the different floors (I don't remember the technical term, clipping I think?) , and it doesn't react to them... I hope they fix it, because it looks like volumetric fire/smoke, and that would be awesome.

The intro sequence showing the city wowed me and the sequence when the dude was hinging on the rope wowed me. The gunplay section really didn't look that much better to me, not really that next-gen feel.

Hmm.. just watching this again. It`s either missing motion blur or it`s very weak. I want more of it. KZ2 levels of it.

It's very subtle. I think the effect will be tweaked in the final game, although hopefully it'll still be understated but applied more liberally.

Yea you are right, i see it when the shooting start. Will probably get improved. I remember playing Crysis 1 at 30fps and motion blur made game feel way smoother.

Finally got my internet back after 3 weeks, FUCK YEA!! Blown away by PS4 but GG needs to step it up!!

Maybe the engine is in the early stage or something but so far the game is doing nothing mind blowing (except for the graphics)... where is the destruction? where is the AI? I swear the AI in the PS3 KZ games was way better....now that GG has 8 gb of DDR5 ram and an easy system to work with, I expect big open levels with vehicle combat and all!! STEP IT UP

This. The graphics are absolutely amazing but I need rag doll and AI to step up from what was done the previous gen. Not just a rehash of the same animations. This is what I want but with better quality next gen
