‘Crysis 3’ knocks last week’s No1 ‘Aliens: Colonial Marines’ (-84%) down to No5, debuting ahead of ‘Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance’ which begins life at No2.

Two new entries at No1 and No2 is a first for 2013, however neither’s launch week can match those of previous No1s ‘Aliens: Colonial Marines’ or ‘Dead Space 3’. There is a gap of 5,500 sales between the two newcomers with ‘Crysis 3’ benefiting from also being available on PC as well as Xbox 360 and PS3. Xbox 360 is the lead format for ‘Crysis 3’ with 57% of sales, while PS3 is the bigger seller for ‘Metal Gear’ with 61%. Four out of the eight UK All Formats No1 so far this year are represented by 3 different EA titles. ‘FIFA 13’ is still proving popular, a non-mover at No3 with sales up 25% on last week. ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ (+0%) is also a non-mover at No4.

‘Dead Space 3’ (-54%) falls 4 places to No6, keeping it ahead of ‘Far Cry 3’ (-21%) at No7 and ‘Need for Speed Most Wanted’ (+13%) at No8. The last two places in the Top 10 are occupied by an Assassin and a Hitman with Ubisoft’s ‘Assassin’s Creed III’ (-5%) at No9 and Square’s ‘Hitman Absolution’ (-2%) at No10.

Aliens: CM outsold Crysis 3 and Revengeance? The fuck is wrong with ya'll?

Further proof that a strong IP and slick commercials beat reviews every time at launch, but legs are determined by WoM (dat 80% drop).

Edit: at least in the states, Metal Gear has PS3 exclusive advertisements on tv.

Pitchford: *laughs*

CRYSIS 3 doing better than Metal Gear? I did not see that coming.

Not a real metal gear. Marketing is waaaaaaay lower than you can expect from a mainline game.

Rising on PS3 outselling the 360 version in the UK is surprising to me.

PS franchise so not to me. Final Fantasy XIII did the same. I'd imagine that if Gears of War for example was released on PS4 it would sell more on 720 even in some countries with smaller userbase than PS4.

When will be the next time a Wii U game makes it into the UK top 40?

From the other thread:
Moreover, the Individual Value Chart

http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&ct=110033

Not only Ninokuni lives there too, and both 3DS titles and Persona are much higher than in the normal chart...but for the first time ever, WiiU is completely absent from the Value Chart.
So if I understand it correctly Wii U is doing worse than ever before not surprisingly. It needs games and fast. I guess Lego City could chart?

Yeah especially looking at MGS4 sales right =P
Well I imagined it'd be more Bayonetta people, which was more 360 based. Of course the Metal Gear brand carries more weight for PS3 owners, but the install base difference, and the Platinum influence, I thought it might sell better on 360 here. Not worldwide of course, but just the UK.

Glad to see Colonial Marines knocked down a peg after one week and that Metal Gear Rising is on the charts. Hope it stays there.

I have the feeling Platinum isn't really that known name to have much infulence. If I am correct PS3 was in a worse position back then in the UK and the PS3 version did have quite a bad word to mouth.

Bayonetta sold more on the PS3 believe it or not.

Well there's no new ones for a month, you might get one or two then if anyone's interested in Monster Hunter.

Going to be interesting to see how Monster Hunter does over here after Tri and the early demo. Wonder if they put people off the series for life. It's not very Western friendly, I don't think.

People who bought Bayonetta, liked it and are aware that MGS is made by same studio are probably mostly forum dwellers here or on EG ;)

Compare that to MGS4 which is like 4-5 milions worldwide despite being PS3 exclusive from time where PS3 was expensive.

Bundles count into software sales in the UK right? Pretty sure that's the reason Mario & Sonic kept topping charts over a year after release. MH3U is getting a Wii U bundle so I think it's possible that it might pop up.

At £330 for the bundle they won't be shifting many.

IIRC it's like this:

mandatory bundle in every console SKU - doesn't count
optional bundle in one of SKUs but not all of them - it is counted

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Curse you Crysis. Xbro's gotta Xbro though, so you can't hold it against them. Hopefully Revengeance enjoys good WoM and sticks around.

When will be the next time a Wii U game makes it into the UK top 40?

Amazingly there doesn't seem to be a single game coming out until 22nd March. When Monster Hunter and NFS/Walking Dead drops. MH should chart decently and NFS will probably be in the lower regions for a week.

Please excuse my question but what makes Crysis stand out from other FPS games gameplay wise? Aside from sharks leaving their natural habitat and flying off to kill you.

Uhh, the suit and its abilities/powers makes it very different from most FPS.

axisofweevils

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
36 (27) NDS SUPER SCRIBBLENAUTS (WARNER BROS. INTERACTIVE)

Wow! I guess people are so frustrated with the seemingly arbitrary Scribblenauts delay, they're buying the previous game?

  • While they still have their fair share of scripted sections, the games feature a lot more freedom and player choice than your average shooter campaign, offering multiple paths and playstyles. There's a lot less shouting at the player to do an exact set of instructions, like your average shooter.
  • Crysis 3 offers a nice leveling up system which allows up to three modifier loadouts to be saved and loaded up for different situations.
  • On the fly weapon modifications for different situations.
  • More specific to the third entry, there's not a half bad variety of enemy types.
