Yes! Skyrim was terrible (until modded) in this regard.

I still don't care for the UI modded or not. The problem with SkyUI for me is it just takes the inventory and makes it an even bigger list.

When this mockup was first shown I was excited. A grid base UI also benefits from having icons instead of names. Picture is worth a thousand words and all that.

Sadly it became this.

I would like the option to switch back and fourth between the console and PC UI.

Hopefully this is a worthy successor to Far Cry 2 here. Fire effects have stalled since that came out in 2008.

I'd argue that watching a cylindrical gas tank fly about briefly before exploding, gradually setting alight the nearby savannah, is the finest pleasure the game has to offer.

3 distinct hour long epilogues? jeez.

I'm wondering if 50 hours of main quest breaks down into thirds per playthrough seeing as it looks like it'll have three main branches due to the epilogues.

I really hope they fix the godawful inventory "YOU ARE OVERBURDENED" issue with Witcher 2. I stopped bothering with loot because of it.

Oh, wow, I'd completely forgotten about the original vision for SkyUI. Did its creator ever say why it didn't come to fruition?

I opted to side with Roche and have yet to replay the game as to side with Iorveth, but would I be wrong in assuming most of the content overlaps and the only worthwhile distinction to be made between the two is in regard to the narrative?

Just as well this isn't due until 2014, so you can pace yourself. ;)

Oh do yourself a favor and start playing again. You're in for some big WTF moments unless you already spoiled it for yourself. The Witcher 2 really goes crazy with the use of perspective to tell it's story.

No idea. Shame because it looked pretty damn great.

I've all but avoided the OT so I wouldn't happen upon Iorveth/EE spoilers. I'll definitely play through the game once more eventually, but I'll likely do so when 3 is on the horizon so the plot threads are still fresh in my mind.

This series deserves nothing less than the grandiosity of a huge open world to explore at your leisure. As it was, it felt far too constrained and the sense of being 'epic' was stunted as a result. Looking forward to it.

No, SkyUI makes the inventory a modern data management system. With all the properties you'd expect of such a system, including fast textual filters, multiple sorting options and the ability to see more than 10 entries at a time - all of which are missing from the default UI. Personally, I think it's amazing, and that all game inventory systems should learn from it, because data management is what an inventory is.

I'm plating W2 right now. If there's something interesting about these news, it is the ability to change targets (in slow-mo). I'm already hating the target system in W2. For God's sake, it has been more than ten years since Ocarina of Time, couldn't they just copy it? Nervertheless, looking forward to this.
I don't know what it's like with a controller but with a mouse I wouldn't recommend using the lock-on key. The game has a soft lock-on to whatever target you are looking at, so just using the mouse to switch targets works pretty well.

Until the wind starts blowing it towards you, then it's "ah shit ruuuuuun".

I trust CD Projekt but I really hope they aren't punching above their weight with this. It just seems too good to be true. Let's hope they'll be able to fully realize their vision.

I came... and came... and came... and came...

climbing is the best news because it was the feature I dreamed of but NEVER could have thought that they will actually do it.

Also slo-mo combat and no more looting houses while the owner STARES AT YOU is music to my ears.

It seems like I'm buying 5 copies again.

You mean the ability to climb any tall natural surface you want in an open world game?

Zandatsu in my Witcher?

Sounds good to me.

Oh shit I didn't think of that. More games need to have a Zandatsu-like system.

It sounds like nothing nowadays but it's a feature that seems to avoid the few open world RPGs we get. One of the most commonly requested features in Bethesda games is the ability to climb stuff, it increases exploration and the ability to place secrets when you add a vertical space to everything you already had in place.

How long is Witcher 1? After Witcher 2 blowing my mind, went into it with zero expectations and it ended up loving it, I figured I should try playing Witcher 1. I'm about 25hours in and only on chapter III, I like it ALOT too. dat card collecting.

Seriously. Open world games like that need some verticality.

Yes, this is so great if it's in. I'm replaying Gothic 2 right now and it's such a delight to explore vertically and think you basically broke the game by climbing so high only to find hand placed loot at the highest point.

Edit: Minor spoiler for Gothic2: Another great use of climbing in that game is when you are trying to get into the city. There are several ways to go about it by either paying a fee, dressing as a farmer, getting a city pass from a merchant and maybe another way I forget. However, there is a sort of a secret way to get in by climbing this hidden rock ledge and basically ending up on the other side of the city near the port and when you arrive at the docks, an NPC who is your friend from the first game recognizes the fact that you entered the city by swimming and you get additional experience points. Mind Blown.

Super Ciri better show up in this and show us some of her pure badassery(well..Geralt will need her if he is serious about going after the wild hunt)

there is a new mechanic, which is similar to VATS from Fallout 3. You can aim at the specific parts of monsters bodies in slow-mo

this is the only thing I don't like here.

NO MORE QTES! FUCK YEAH!

I also like the sound of the PC version having a different UI. I hope the inventory is more like the Witcher 1, with bags with icons, instead of plain lists. Hopefully they get rid of encumberance too.

I completed The Witcher in about 60 hours, that's including all sidequests too, no rushing.

I did take 70 hours on one playthrough but that involved a lot of grinding for XP.

I have seen people range from 50-80 hours though, so obviously it varies from person to person.

Wow, long game.

The VATS like slow mo targeting sounds great. I have no clue how it might end up actually being implemented, but I've always wanted to see a VATS like targeting system for one of these fantasy melee focused games. Might make some of the battles a little more engaging if you have to target certain parts of the enemy to disable them or if you're trying to harvest certain parts of them undamaged if they're a monster, maybe.

Don't like the sound of completely different UI's.

I was planning to play TW3 just as I am with TW2. On my D8000 in my living room with a 360 gamepad.

Usually to UI's means one is mouse friendly and the other is gamepad friendly.

Also, isn't Geralt's horse "Roach" a cannon character of the series? Seems odd they let you tame and buy other horses. Not that I will mind much, just odd.

Yeah, those sound like optimal methods. On the former point, it could work together with the choice system by combining with combat. (a.k.a. Choosing to disable or kill your opponent where they stand) rather than always making the choice solely available through a comparably static dialogue tree. I'm aware it's not the freshest idea, but it'd make good use of it.

50 hours? Way too long. Games like this usually end up being boring. Give me a shorter but better experience.

Then don't play these types of games? I have never put under 50 hours into any of the Elder Scrolls or Fallout games by Bethesda and Obsidian. 50 hours for a main quest sounds about right for an open world Witcher Game.

In fact, aren't TW1-2 similar in length?

He named his every horse Roach.

That sounds really good. A 50 hours main story though? That sounds absolutely crazy in an open world game, I wonder how they'll pull that off.

I don't think it will be that hard. Witcher 2 took me about 25-30 hours for both the Roche and Iorveth paths. Granted, I did all the sidequests. I sunk about 60 to 70 hours in the original Witcher, but again mainly doing all the sidequests and stuff. It's sounds like the story structure will probably be more similar to the first Witcher as opposed to the sequel.

Maybe if you add the 2 different Act 2s together. My first playthrough of Witcher 2 was just a shade over 30 hours doing what I would guess is 85% of the quests, I skipped some stuff in Act 3. My first playthrough of Witcher 1, also not doing everything available, was about 45 hours and from what I understand I was on the low end with that game compared to most people's first runs.
