Media Create Sales: Week 8, 2013 (Feb 18 - Feb 24)

I had higher expectations because it's true that it was available on the store as a f2p game but Japanese people do still like to buy physical copies. Also it does not cost 5000 yen but more around 4000 yen, so it was a bugdet release in Japan. Also: does f2p means that it was completely free? Because if many contents must be purchased anyway, being a MMORPG, the cost of the retail version might be justified. Also: many people reported anecdotal evidence on how PSO2 was selling and in some stores was the second best selling game. Also: was there also a bundle? Also: it was released the week of the price cut, when generally people buy something. I mean, ok it is a f2p game, but there were reasons, many reasons, to think it could have done better.

Edit: it costs 5229 yen but I saw a 4200 yen version around. My point still stands.

And it did sell. Quite a bit in fact.

Most of the real content is still free. The packaged version comes with a month of the premium account (like 1,400 Yen or something, not sure the exact monthly cost), and a few free items/weapons. Nothing that makes the game worth spending 5,229 on. Again, the only real reason to bite is because you have no space on your memory card, or you're an importer who wants to play while on your US PSN account.

There really are very few good reasons anybody would buy this. That's why this number is surprisingly solid.

I think that this tell us the most important thing about Vita, honestly.
New colors, price cut and "interesting" games (I don't know how many of the actually existing Vita games can aim to sell hugely more than Senran Kagura) set those numbers.
Numbers that are good, but lower than a normal 3DS week, and not so HUGE in general terms.

Maybe it can sustain this level for a week or two thanks to Soul Sacrifice but that seems like that's it for the foreseeable future, right?

Only now you're worried about Vita sales?

I said it's worrying but I didn't say to me. :)

Japan has been much more open to digital download recently. We've seen that with ~700k copies sold of Animal Crossing for example. PSO case is also a different case because there is the option to get it for free or pay 5k yen (although you get more DLC stuff when buying the retail version). It is not just a choice between owning the retail or digital download version.

The 4200 yen is probably Amazon price. They discount every single game.

Im pretty sure its F2P in the sense that you don't have to spend a penny. There is in game currency to buy things but you don't need to.

This is why I and others are surprised it even sold as much as it did. I would assume most people would just download it.

I think the fact the game is available completely free massively overrides any of the points you make. Like I said before..... just use that money to buy a memory card.

Also: it was one of the most popular brands on PSP, even though with another genre.

Anyway, I did not say it bombed or something. It actually did pretty good being available for free as a digital version. I just said I had higher expectations (something more like 80k) and before knowing SK sales, I think many people though PSO2 was the game it would have sold the most this week on Vita.

I didn't expect PSO2 to even sell 50k. People must really like costumes. :p

Decent Vita numbers, should hold or increase next week with Soul Sacrifice. Then decrease downwards to 10k within weeks. I think it will be under 20k in four weeks.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
PSP has been dying since last year.

Namco should have released GE2 beta for the PSP last year and then release the 3DS finished enhanced version this year.

Right, but I fear God Eater 2 could really do bad numbers. It's on PSP (console that can't guarantee good sales for games like in the past years) and Vita. A GE2: Burst on 3DS/Vita seems necessary to me in the future.

By the way, PSV Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 > WIU Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge

This isn't exactly an achievement if you look up with what NGS2 is competing with here

But yeah, expected more devastating from Wii U and Vita did good! Hopefully SS will give it another boost

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Granted the 3DS price drop was bigger, but damn... I suppose that's the difference in having announced popular software on the way.

Also 3DS had to compete withalready old hardware, where the Vita has to compete against the 3DS which has games like Monster Hunter 4 lined up. Looking back Nintendo did the right thing just hitting that panic button as soons as possible.

Why do you think that? I don't think comparing Shining Ark to God Eater 2 makes sense at all.
And I don't think it'll get a 3DS version, at all.

Disappointing numbers for the online only f2p down port! Btw, looking at reviews some buyers were horridly misinformed. Literally throwing away their money.

The PSP games were mostly offline singleplayer/multiplayer stuff (did they even have online play?), so it is a different game in that regards.

Sure, no problem for having higher expectations :) I just say why i had lower expectations for it.

That would be cruel.
I would say that it would only be cruel if someone had cruel intention for posting it. Here are the comparison (without cruel intentions hehe :p) , both Famitsu numbers:

3DS = 3,701 to 214,821 (one model, 10k yen pricedrop)

Vita = 11,669 to 60,561 (two models, 5k yen pricedrop and 10k yen pricedrop)

People must really want some game to play on their Vita, probably :p
I hope for Nintendo's sake that this is the case with the WiiU as well. It would be bad if the current WiiU owners are little interested in the upcoming games.

God eater 2 should have moved to 3ds the moment 3G was announced. The delay for (probably) the Vita version doesn't exactly help either.I expect it to do less than Burst.
The bad thing about it's situation is that the planned (?) burst version doesn't really bode well. It's not like a Vita enhanced port screams of success.

We will see.
